I have a curious question to ask you all, since we've all covered what we were doing a year ago, as things return back to normal at the end of the year. What rituals/habits/changes you picked up over the last year do you think you will continue to do going forward?

I personally see myself probably still wearing a mask peak cold/flu season as it's been great not getting sick with a cold this year. The year prior I had a new coworker who was constantly getting sick and it was getting me sick since he had the desk next to me and we were constantly collaborating on the same project. I'll also most likely continue my ritual of wiping everything down with clean wipes that comes in from outside (groceries, packages).

The mask thing seems like a good idea. I really have no problem wearing a mask. I can definitely see myself continuing to wear masks when attending crowded events like football games for example.

I imagine it’ll be a little tough to get used to sitting shoulder to shoulder with strangers once again.

  2. I feel like this is sort of based on a false premise. International treaties covering water rights exist and while I don't know of the specific dam you're discussing, I would be very, very surprised if there isn't a large amount of international negotiation involved in its construction. Like I really doubt that Ethiopia is just going to stop the flow of the Nile for a couple years while the dam fills up and tell Egypt to deal with it.

The UN isn't useless just because it can't immediately force any country it wants to immediately bend the knee.

You know who really loses with all these issues and delays? The third world. Can't imagine they will be vaccinated before 2023 or 2024. By then they might have full infection.

It seems like most developing countries have handled covid better than a lot of developed countries, and (potential China propaganda incoming) China is distributing their Sinovac vaccine, at least in south east Asia, already. If other vaccines are able to come online soon, and vaccine production is able to be ramped up as much as people are saying, I'd guess most of the world, including the developing world, will be vaccinated by mid 2022 at the latest.

I mean your discussion of the efficacy of this Chinese vaccine is just way off the mark and reeks of propaganda, fam. 50% efficacy is 50% efficacy. That's great that it is 90+% at preventing serious illness: Moderna and Pfizer are 100%. Also, please keep in mind that even if you don't have a serious case of COVID, you are not immune from its lasting effects.

    Fair points.

Can you tell us the real low-down on the Jack Ma situation?

That's kind of off-topic no? My thoughts on that are pretty simple: Western leftists meme all day about guillotining billionaires. Then a Chinese billionaire decides he better lay low because the state is upset at him and it's suddenly an absolute outrageous abuse of power. Seems a little contradictory to me. I wonder if leftists in the west are perhaps a little xenophobic.

It's not an issue that I really care about, tbh. I care more that my government is making enemies with the second most powerful economy in the world and we're now seeing the consequences.

Canada also originally signed up to co-research the CanSino vaccine...and then China unilaterally vetoed Canada getting any. As it turns out, the vaccine isn't that great (50-70% effective, I think), but still bad.

Not sure what Canada can do about this. Conservatives will demand that Trudeau somehow make Canada have the punch-throwing weight of the US in order to get its way...but that's not possible. Really unfortunate that this all happened with Trump in power, as otherwise I imagine Canada would have co-joined with the US to fund production in the US.

That 50% effectiveness number is for the Sinovac vaccine which isn't the same as the Cansino vaccine, and it isn't really an accurate representation anyway (the vaccine is about 50% effective at preventing covid entirely, but its effectiveness at preventing serious symptoms is 90%+).

China blocking the export of the Cansino vaccine was completely foreseeable given how our government has hopped full hog on the anti-China propaganda train. You can't spit on your colleagues and expect them to remain your colleagues. Admittedly this is not only a Trudeau thing -- likely any other government (probably even a hypothetical NDP government, as far fetched as the idea would be) would've been just as anti-China. But Trudeau is currently the Prime Minister, so he's ultimately the one responsible.

Imagine posting this interview thinking it makes you look good.

Most of the Twitter comments in the Twitter thread seem to agree with Paul. I think the most important part of that interview is when he says "I plan on spending the next two years going around state to state fixing these problems and I won't be cowed by liberals in the media who say 'there's no evidence here, you're a liar if you talk about election fraud.'" The GOP is going to go whole hog on the election fraud narrative.

Don't really care about the soda argument, as I rarely drink soda these days.

But can I say that carbonated ("sparkling" if you're a fucking idiot) water is absolutely fucking putrid? Tastes like dish soap. No, literally. Go get some dish soap, dab a little on your tongue, and then try "sparkling" water. Same bitter nasty flavor for perverts. It's a double con, too, because some of the flavors like black cherry can SMELL absolutely delicious, then you taste it and it's like a goblin is taking a shit on your tongue. Knowing that Europeans have been having it regularly at restaurants for the past several decades now explains to me why their faces look like that.

Kettils Mjöd🇸🇪 on Twitter: "The values of the european union are not the values of europe and the european people.... You weird looking corrupt lunatic… https://t.co/5pp1iBrFhI"

That's a man who gargles his carbonated pig shit every morning.

    Goddamn right.

  9. Now that I’ve thought some more about it, I’d be really surprised if Japan  canceled the olympics this early. I’m guessing they’ll do the same thing they did last year — wait until it becomes clear that it definitely can’t go on because too many national olympic committees have pulled out.

If Japan can pull the olympics off, it’ll be remembered as the event that marked the end of covid-19. Now of course that’s assuming the olympics don’t trigger another major outbreak. But if the majority of the population is immunized and you have confidence in the vaccine, in theory that shouldn’t happen.

That's not even an example of the dying empire! Let alone a good one!

It's more a sign of the corrupt dealings of washington insiders in the service of capital. Do some time in public service then start cashing checks for whomever. Rinse and repeat on both sides.

biden would happily accept her donation if she was cashing cheques for raytheon tho...
