  1. I miss when people got fired and kind of disappeared.  Now they all just start a patreon and a vlog.

Speaking of that, another CNN favorite pissed off the pedo guy

Don Lemon said he was informed of the decision to cancel the partnership hours after he taped an interview with Elon Musk for The Don Lemon Show.

“Are you better off than 3 years ago?”

WTF?! Isn’t it ‘four years ago’ Alabama can’t do math???

I never got why they ask this question, especially now.  I mean the last year of Trump's term hundreds of thousands were dying of COVID, you couldn't find toilet paper, and a good chunk of the country was out of work.

So Elon isn't so much against OpenAI going for profit as he against them going for profit without him in control of everything.

It also feels like a window into what Elon thought of OpenAI's business prospects. He was looking at what they had and thinking that they needed an existing profitable business as a crutch, but it turns out they didn't. They were able to monetize their product quite quickly. They're still burning through cash, but at this point it's clear they'll be able to get whatever cash they need for the foreseeable future.

I'll also point out that Elon has since decided to again open his own AI company separate from Tesla, so whatever reasons he had for insisting that OpenAI be part of Tesla obviously don't apply if you're a company under his control.

Last I saw he was trying to use his AI company to leverage the Tesla board to give him a shitload of stock to fill a Twitter shaped hole he ripped in his pocket.

In Missouri, far-right activist Darrell Leon McClanahan III has been seeking the GOP nomination in Missouri's 2024 gubernatorial race. But the Missouri Republican Party has announced that...

    :hmm:

I mean, suing them and saying that throwing up a Hitler salute next to someone in full Klan regalia in front of a burning cross wasn't a Klan thing is... something.

    Quote

McClanahan has filed a lawsuit against the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which published the photo on their website in 2022 along with an article. McClanahan argued, in the lawsuit, that he was strictly an "honorary" KKK member — not a full member — and that the photo showed a "Christian Identity Cross lighting ceremony" instead of a full-fledged KKK cross burning ceremony.

Came in here to say that I cannot believe that I think it would be better if he stayed on in the current climate. The fact that Mitch fucking McConnell is one of the "good" (using that term extremely loosely) Republicans is just a fucking nightmare.

The good news is none of the rest of them are nearly as effective at getting an agenda pushed through as he is.  He didn't give a shit about scoring wins on some shitty right wing vlog or Fox News, he pushed his agenda at all costs, and was good at whipping the vote.  None of the rest of them I feel can replace him on that front, a lot of preening do nothings auditioning for Trump or an evening guest slot on Fox News.

The Republican Party needs to be eradicated.

Maybe I'm naive, but I feel like their pivot to being in service of pretty much just Trump hasn't helped them in the long run.  They have been underperfoming in the midterms ever since they attached themselves to Trump.  They don't really have anyone else that anyone gives a shit about after the KFC chicken buckets finally send him to hell.

The most interesting aspect of the situation to me is that there’s a paradox nested in the automation AI provides that was not present in prior technologies that caused large waves of disemployment via the automation of labor.

Namely, that AIs require the labor they are built to automate.  To take a simple example, an image generator AI can automate the creation of images, but it also can’t work without lots of people providing it lots of source images.  An image generator, in a sense, can’t completely automate image generation without killing itself.

Cars, by contrast, did not need horse-buggy drivers to work.

So the dynamics of the coming labor disputes and legal battles over AI are going to be unlike anything we’ve really ever seen.

    We live in interesting times.

There will always be a need for human driven art, no matter what AI evangelists say.  I think the real one is AI coming for a lot of entry level up to sort of middle level white collar work, support, basic analyst jobs, a lot of it will be able to be done with AI.  I feel like the entry level in a lot of fields is going to be tough, that includes art, no one is going to use it to make a feature film that anyone will want to see, but they will use them for commercials, brochures, presentation graphics.  The kind of stuff someone gets into to try and get in the door on certain career paths.  Like I kind of wonder if gen alpha is going to get fucked by a bunch of AI built by millennials.

    Thanks I hate it

This reminds me of those crypto bros that tried to sell NFTs in games as "Imagine you don't have to find a gun in the game, you could buy it, and then sell it when you're done with it to another player".  Those were people who don't play games and I'm pretty sure these people don't read a whole lot of books.  This does answer the burning question I've always had:  Who the fuck reads those terrible AI generated Kindle books people shit onto Amazon?
