WTF is happening to this board.

This board is an absolute shadow of what it used to be. The news is just a drag. There are fewer users now. Those combine to have there be less conversation overall. And we've picked up another Demut somehow, so that becomes the main topic of conversation because nothing else is interesting enough to talk about.

I appreciate Wade posting updates to the Ukraine thread. Those intel assessments are great. Beyond that, political discussions are just exhausting. I think everyone is worn out. Shitposting only gets you so far when it comes to engagement.

I dunno my wife and sister both loved the first two episodes and neither have seen either of the cartoon shows.

But they also don’t fall into the group of people who have been corrupted by Netflix and binge watching everything. They’re totally fine if there are a few things that aren’t explained right away because they assume the show will lead them there(this is been a running theme for almost every single Star Wars show so far). But if you’re one of those people who needs everything right away then yeah I’m sure those first two episodes were pretty tough haha.

Well then I'm very pleased to be proven wrong in your case!

  3. For as much as I loved Rebels, Mando, and Clone Wars, and as much as I enjoyed the first two eps of Ahsoka, I think this show is Exhibit A in the Marvelization of Star Wars.

You have to do so much "homework" to really absorb all the aspects of this show. If you hadn't already watched Rebels and a decent chunk of Clone Wars, then Ahsoka won't hit for you. And on one hand, that's a shame. But for fans like me who's all the way in, I'm really really loving it.

I've become that which I despise. :sun:

  4. None of these are real. Fulton County said they're releasing it tomorrow.

EDIT: I am fake news. 2nd one is real.

Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin killed in plane crash in Russia, with nine other people on board also dead

The private jet carrying Prigozhin and Dimitry Utkin (the most Nazi looking motherfucker you've ever imagined) was shot down over the Tver region in Russia.

Critical support to V. V. Putin!

  6. It probably isn't a coincidence that the F-16 news drops the same time as this news:

I agree that he's complicit but someone leaving a cult and speaking out against it is always a good thing. If we want more Christians to speak out against Trump we can't immediately admonish them for not speaking out sooner. I'm not saying we should give him a medal and treat him like an hero, but creating a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" scenario is not going to encourage anyone to leave and speak out.

You're right that him leaving and speaking out about the problems in the SBC are good. I'm not disputing that. And he serves as a great example for speaking out against Trump and supporting other people in the ability to speak out themselves.

But I don't think it's damned if you do/don't. I think Moore hasn't run far enough. He's now affiliated with a non-denominational church that is nominally evangelical. The church doesn't affirm (vocally and explicitly accept) LGBTQ membership. They are merely silent on it. There's not one woman on the religious staff of the church.

Modern evangelicalism doesn't have problems that need to be fixed. Modern evangelicalism is at its core rotten and cannot be fixed.

  8. The pastor in question is Russel Moore, an ex-Southern Baptist who had been the head of an entity within the Southern Baptist Convention before being forced out for criticizing Trump. He's definitely a moderate in the Baptist tradition, but he was still Southern Baptist and upheld most of the standard tenets of its belief system that created this monster.

He can be surprised and shocked and saddened and everything else. But he helped make the leopards who ate his face.

  9. I will be spinning my The Band albums in commemoration. I've really started gaining a huge appreciation for them.

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down is a song that to me, a Tennessean, is reprehensible in what it lauds. But the way Levon sang it and the music just make it so so good. I wish it didn't mean what it did, but dammit if I don't sing it at the top of my lungs.

  10. I'm no defender of the decision to drop the Bomb, but not even the Japanese War Council knew they would unconditionally surrender at the time of Potsdam.

Likewise, fucking MacArthur doesn't deserve any credit for finding Hiroshima and Nagasaki morally reprehensible when 6 years later he is begging to blanket North Korea with the same.
