  1. Seymour Hersh made an oopsie-doo and published in English a phrase which is not a common idiom in English... but IS in Russian!

Also, the dig his "source" makes about Nigeria is likewise a relatively common line in Russian politics. Nigeria being the key example of political corruption. We don't really say that here in the US!

I think Hersh's "source" is some Russian propagandist. Whether the source is doing this on his own, part of a subcontracted group, or employed by the Kremlin itself does not matter. The point is Hersh is a moron and is printing this because he believes it.

The amount of testimony from pilots describing craft behaving in ways that are beyond our current level of technology is the most eyebrow raising element of this whole affair. Man-made drones can’t move at supersonic speed and then stop and turn on a dime, no matter how advanced. Then you have the reports of supersonic craft moving without any kind of thermal exhaust trail. Fascinating stuff.

From someone very smart I follow:

"We too easily dismiss terrestrial explanations, ranging from sensor error to human fallibility, and I would start there 1000 times out of 1000 before looking beyond the stars for answers."

Instagram model Fan-Pei Koung moved to Ukraine earlier this year to volunteer as an "emotional support stripper" for the soldiers.

It’s more on the fact that if your aren’t a Russian ship in the water, they’re free to kill you. They don’t care what country you’re from because you might be working with Ukraine forces.

    Right. But also.

I feel this is more likely to be an empty threat, like they're not going to sink a Turkish ship, that would be truly insane.  If the US operated in the black sea we would absolutely continue to operate as normal.

I'm not saying it's an empty threat entirely, but as of today, they haven't done shit to these ships.

  5. During the pandemic I went pretty deep into studying conspiracy theories. That chart is fairly well known and I have my criticisms of it. But it's generally a pretty reasonable summary of the potential harm a lot of conspiracy theories can pose.

The only ones I don't recognize are (from top to bottom):

    RFID in bras

    Ancient giant trees

    Avril Lavigne

    Greta Thunberg time travel

    Kylie Jenner is a clone

    Prince Charles vampire

    Stuff that doesn't matter, basically.

I don't want to go into full doomposting most, but...I said to myself a while ago, that if something in my body breaks or hurts, I'm not going to try and fix it.  Hell, I cancelled a doctor appointment, even though my weight and blood pressure is much higher than normal.  But...part of me doesn't care anymore.

I'm not that great at words of affirmation. But that's a silly way of thinking. Your life like isn't a car you're driving into the ground. This is you, man! Reschedule and see if you can make some minor changes.

Save the defeatism for national politics :p

  7. It is in this moment that we all need to be reminded of the best restaurant review ever printed.

Guy Fieri's American Kitchen and Bar really, really sucked donkey sauce.

What the food and service at Guy Fieri’s Times Square establishment conjure is pure bafflement, among other things.

  8. I hear ya man. During covid both my water heater and my dishwasher broke within a month of each other. After that a storm flooded my basement and I had to have mold mitigation and drywall work done across a whole wall. Then I had to get a leaky faucet replaced too.

Yours sounds a lot deeper of a hole!

  9. The cluster bomb thing is tough.

On the one hand, the Ukrainians know what they need to achieve and they want weapons to help that.

On the other is the fact that this will exacerbate issues with demining in a future where Ukrainian territory is retaken.

In response to the first, they know that they need area-wide weapons to deal with entrenched Russian defenses. Their artillery cannot saturate enough as it is to achieve their aims. So they want wider area effects out of their weapons. Unfortunately, I don't know that this is the silver bullet they want it to be.
