Also, what most Mormons do not understand is that their definition of Christian isn’t the definition that most Christians go by. It’s a totally foreign concept to them.
Which has to be some justification for why some don't view them as Christian.
What's the tl;dr on the definition Mormons use?

Update: She passed away this morning.
Lots of love. My grandfather passed away on Thanksgiving and it was very difficult. Arguably, the hardest part is watching other family members take it harder.
Hang on to those memories. They're precious.

What an incredible thread. I have no idea how I missed this 2 years ago lmao.
So back to "My Father's Gun" by Elton John, I became obsessed with a similar song from a different band: The Band's "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down."
Robbie Robertson didn't intend any messaging towards the Lost Cause. He wrote the song because it fit Levon Helm's voice and accent. But in doing so, the song about a poor Confederate soldier with an overarching anti-war message became one of these cultural things that perpetuated the Lost Cause. People read into it what they wanted to hear.
I have some sympathy for songwriters that accidentally fell into the Lost Cause myth while making incredible pieces of art.
On the flip side, fuck Lynyrd Skynyrd and their blatant glorification of the Confederacy.

Wow, I totally missed the NYT Op-ed thing.

It's important to remember that the Ukrainian Air Force, Navy, and Special Forces are more agile and eager to learn and adapt than the Army.

They don't want to offend anyone by making this remotely realistic.
This is as good of a justification as any as to why Nebraska and Utah are on opposite sides.

Idiotic.
Just what do these filmmakers think Minnesota has in common ideologically with Idaho? Let alone TX and CA.

My reactions in order that I felt them:
California and Texas? Surely not. Maybe it's non-bay area and SoCal California and Texas.
LOL, Fat Damon as a chud and Ron Swanson as president. This is going to be so bad.
Whatever this movie is trying to say will probably fall flat, if it's trying to say anything at all.
Given the state of the country at the moment, this seems ill advised at best and really harmful at worst.
This looks like shit.

I saw this preview before Godzilla and I thought it looked pretty intriguing. Or that it could be. We'll see!

OK I looked it up, and apparently it was his first child with his first wife, not Grimes, so did she think he meant the first child he had with her, which is pretty stupid of her, or did she somehow know he wasn't there for the delivery of his first child with his first wife, even though the child died of SIDS at 10 weeks?
This is all so very stupid though.
I could have gotten the Grimes part wrong.

Wait, what?
When Elon bought Twitter, some chuds were asking him to bring back Alex Jones.
Elon said that he held his newborn child in his arms as the newborn died from some sort of complications. He used that instance as a way of highlighting how Alex Jones used the death of children (Sandy Hook) to push his political views (anti-gun control).
Grimes came out later and said that Elon wasn't even there during the birth of that child and that Elon was lying through his teeth.
Now Alex Jones is back on Twitter.

I largely agree with this. I don’t think the metrics we use to measure the ‘economy’ are a particularly good indicator of the actual economy, at least in the way the average person thinks about it.
I think in general, the average person really views the ‘economy’ in the terms of disposable income, or money left over after their bills are paid. But that’s not really how we measure the ‘economy.’
I think that’s why there is such a disconnect between Democratic messaging and the average voter. Because to the ruling/governing/intellectual class, a lot of the metrics we use to measure the economy: unemployment rate, jobs added, wages, etc are doing very well.
100% this.
How the average person "feels" is not an indicator of "the economy" at large. But the indicators of "the economy" are not what has the main effect on the average person.
The disconnect isn't between Dems and the average voter. The Republicans have the same disconnect. And no one in power is actually capable of bridging that disconnect--AOC, Bernie, and Fetterman included.

I don't think the economy is really that bad.
I just think home interest rates are too high.
