Posted this earlier but worth dropping again now that the demo is out:

Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida reveals that the upcoming Final Fantasy 16 will have several hours of cutscenes.

It sounds like it might be pretty front-loaded with story cutscenes though.

So I never quite got it, does it actually tell them same story for the most part as FF1 or is it just within the same universe or is it an alternate universe that is similar to it?

It tells the FF1 story but it adds a bit extra.

This game is super fun but using FF1 as the backdrop really holds it back. The story in FF1 lies somewhere between trash and completely non-existent.

Hover over their username on desktop. With UBO, you can even block "You have chosen to ignore this user" by blocking that specific element. Right now the only time I see Biggie posts is if he gets quoted.

On mobile, you can click the hamburger lines > account > ignored users >  and then enter the user's name in the text box. If you use Firefox mobile you can install UBO and do the same trick there. Well, any browser that lets you remove elements or install UBO can do that as well.

Thank you good sir, that unpleasant buzzing in my ear is now gone.

Push the button that says Mean Person Doesn't Like and Praise a Video Game that I like.

You're not mean, you're just fucking annoying.

I'm willing to bet most of us were edgey teenagers, average age here is probably 40. Nobody wants to deal with a petulant child. You troll here because you are probably a weak person in the outside world who cowers at any type of confrontation so you come on the internet to act like a big man because it's the only "power" you have in your life.

No, I actually think he does and you basically agree as you said next

That's contradictory. And it has nothing to do with FFXVI. Well, not exactly, he does this all the time. Just enters a thread he has no interest in and decided to take a shit and roll around in it. I know he specifically did in topics related to Mass Effect. It's his MO. I saw that he pre-ordered it and blocked him last night. Don't want the smell of shit to get in the way of a good time. So, I did specifically block him in this case because this is an FFXVI thread. If it was, let's say, a Mass Effect 4 thread, I'd block him there too if he couldn't stop the shit from spewing. Which he can't as he never actually has anything to say. Didn't care all that much before the game was about to come out, but now the is some of the game to play so I don't wanna see that shit. Again, even if he didn't like it, if he had something to actually say about other than 1 sentence and a gif, I'd be fine with that. I mean, I shit on shit I play all the time.

    You can block people? How?

so what if I knew I didn't like the game 6 months ago before the demo came out? You like every game? Madden for example, if you didn't like or enjoy a football sim I am postive you already know Madden 24 is gonna suck. Please if I am going to live in your head at least charge me some rent.

I don't post about games I don't like and on the very rare occasions that I do, I offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism about what I don't like and how it could be improved. I don't just shitpost over and over in the assassins creed topic because I don't like that game because it's a silly waste of time and serves no purpose. Like serously, grow up.

@Xbob42 Has been pretty critical of the game going back awhile and I gave him a little ribbing for it but he gives things a fair chance and offers constructive criticism.

Nah. Biggies post do not bother me at all. He has an opinion on the demo and is allowed to post about it. I'm not sure I can even play this tonight because I have to take my car to the garage.

I really want to see this shit.

Except he doesn't have an opinion on the demo, he had a concluded that the game sucked 6 months ago (maybe longer) you can go back and read him calling the game shit numerous times way before demo came out. Like it's kind of pathetic to keep posting over & over about something you hate. It's bringing me back to the IGN Vestibule days. Most of us grew up, some apparently didn't.

If what I think about FF XVI kills your vibe then you have problems lol. Who gives a shit.

I don't really care but why are you constantly being negative about something you don't like or care about?

I don't go posting on anime forums telling everyone how stupid & shitty anime is. It's not for me & that would be a massive waste of my time, but here you are...

  9. 6 minutes ago, Bacon said:

Ah. Well, anyway, I really haven't. You are just cherry-picking if you actually think I've only been negative. And as I have said many times, it's better that I am negative now than before the game comes out. Think how negative I would have been if went into this without knowing there could be a possibility of frame rate issues. All of that has already been said and I can focus more on enjoying what I like. It's why my biggest bullet points in the major negatives are about the controls as that wasn't something I was expecting.

Yeah you weren't bad it was mostly @Xbob42 & @Biggie trying to kill my vibe.

I did this too, I thought my 100% file of FF6 was something like 200 hours, then I found the cart a while back, booted it up and it the endgame save was just under 60.

Yeah I don't know I guess I just play much slower (and also have a bad memory) I've replayed ff7 literally 10 times and my file is always over 100 hours because I go for 100% completion, 3X Master Materia, full 99 party and on two ocassions I even maxed everyone's stats to 255 by morphing enemies that turn into the stat boost items.

No way. That was seriously around 20 hours in the original game?

    For real?

wow...time moved much differently back then. I'd have never guessed that.

You can rush through it probably 10-12 but first playthrough yeah it's going to take most people around 20.

The bulk of the game is on disc 2, like 70% of it. Disc 3 is just the final dungeon.

  12. 11 minutes ago, TheRealSmallville said:

How far did part 1 go? I heard a while back that it ended when you left the city, but I don't recall leaving the city being very far into the original game, maybe 4-6 hours  (though it's been ages since I played it & could be wrong). So I'd assume that would be a weird place to stop.

It ends the same place disc 1 on ps1 ends, you leaving midgar. That was like 20 hours in the original, they stretched it to 40 in remake

I think it's real weird to call Pokemon an outlier but reference The Witcher 3 over and over, which is also an outlier.

lol like Bacon said I only mentioned it twice and yeah it's an outlier too but Cyber Punk sold 20 million, Elden Ring sold 20 million, Skyrim sold 30 million, Monster Hunter world sold 20 million, FF7 remake is nearing 20 million.

The point being big action RPG's are about 3 times as popular as big turn-based RPG's in recent years even if you exclude the outliers on both sides. You guys are making me play devils advocate here. Again I PERSONALLY like the turn-based games more and would love another one but I also understand why they've decided not to go that route anymore.

  14. 30 minutes ago, Xbob42 said:

We can keep pretending it doesn't count, but going back to Pokemon, they've released several games since the Witcher 3 (2015), totaling 106.48 million sales (and that's based off of often 4+ year old data) so...

And I bet all of them combined cost less than the Witcher 3 to produce!

I didn't say it doesn't count, I said it's an outlier because it's a cultural phenomenon.  It's the same for Mario vs. some generic platformer. It would be ludicrous to compare Mario to Ratchet & Clank. Rift apart sold 1.1 million copies, Odyssey sold 20 million.

Mario is ubiquitous, even non-gamers are very familiar with him. Are we really going to sit here and say "everyone loves platformers!" because of a single outlier? You slap the name Mario on golf, racing, etc. and all the game sell like gangbusters because the IP is that popular.

Final Fantasy is a well known brand among gamers... not a single god damn person who doesn't identify as a "gamer" knows what that is.
