The same was said of Diablo 3 before it was ported, but it turned out well. If content was removed or scaled back, sure, but how would it ruin the gameplay if everything's intact but remixed to be more comfortable playing w/ a controller?   A console port could still allow compatibility with keyboards too.  I'm not seeing a downside to having the game playable on more platforms.

Comparing starcraft to Diablo is a bit ridiculous. You aren’t controlling hundreds of ynits in diablo. They aren’t even close to the same typeof games.

This isn't ResetERA, relax. There's a relatively small active poster count on here and everyone is respectful to each other even if they blatantly disagree or ague and that's why this board is actually fun to come to.

Thats fine, but he is arguing that this isn’t a targeted hate campaign by users, because some legitimate reviewers didn’t like it, and it is completely disingenuous.

Its been said a hundred times, this is not about valid criticism. He keeps ignoring it and is basically saying that that hate towards a vulnerable group is justified because polygon and forbes don’t like it.

also, ive never been to reset era, so I have no idea what you are talking about.

So you didn't even read most of my post then.

You are literally spewing bullshit that has nothing to do with what we are talking about. This is not about professional reviewers having problems wiyh the game, nobody said that being critical about it makes you racist or sexist. Seriously, what is your problem?

this is about thousands of user scores who literally attacked the game for having lgbt characters. Its absurd you keep coming back with “but kotaku! But Forbes”. This is not about valid criticism. Frankly, your denial, and refusal to debate the actual points we are making is a bit disgusting. All of your arguments have been in bad faith, because none of us have attacked those outlets for having valid criticism.

Its going to be more than a 20$ price difference. I think 50-70. Theres more money in digital gaming.

Ive been fed up with physical editions forever, though I did buy the first class edition for ff7r this year, but thats because I like FF7 memorabilia, not because I wanted the disc. Otherwise, I haven’t bought a physical disk that wasnt part of a collectors edition in 5-6 years, and much longer on pc.  Leaving out retro gaming, because retro is absolutely a different, better experience on original hardware in a great many cases.

New information from a Q&A with CDPR today:

    • They confirm that press is playing the game as we speak in order to produce previews for the next week, 25th
    • Previews will be released when Night City Wire ends on 25th
    • "Read the previews" was said so video unlikely from press?
    • Press playing the game for previews are "from around the globe"
    • Press has access to build that has character creation, starts from the beginning of the game and has time limit, but no limits on what they can do in the game. Build is lacking things like some of the story content as CDPR wants keep stuff under wraps. Build has bugs in. (commentary: so no spit polished vertical slice to play, that is good)
    • They are streaming game from PCs to press to play because of COVID prevents in-person events
    • They aren't worried about releasing so close to next-gen, confirming that backwards compatibility is possible on PS5 and XSX for the game
    • Game will run on PS4, PS5, XBO and XSX from day 1
    • Game will look better on next-gen consoles from day 1
    • Next-gen version is planned for 2021, "more robust update". Will be free of charge for those who own last-gen version
    • They expect next-gen consoles to release around same time, but they aren't worried about release titles creating competition for CP77 as release titles look to be different kind games
    • They keep being coy about number of expansions coming to the CP77, number of them will be announced "soon" as part of marketing campaign
    • Insisting that COVID and working from home situation aren't cause of delay, last stretch of development is just very demanding
    • They have seen increases in pre-orders of Cyberpunk 2077 every time some store that it has ran sale on other games
    • No plans for live events for the game at this time
    • CDPR doesn't do delays to try and reach arbitrary MetaCritic scores, they just want to release game when they feel quality is what they strive for
    • Multiplayer portion / version of the game is delayed proportionally to delay of CP77. CP77 is pushed back by X, MP part is pushed back by X

The only next gen game that MIGHT take some time from Cyberpunk for me is Miles Morales Spider-Man. It totally depends if they are out at the same time.

im definitely interested in other launch games, but Cyberpunk is by dar the game ive been looking forward to most for a couple of years (and an unannounced Bloodborne 2, if they are making it.

It's like he's really not reading all our posts. It's bizarre. I feel this happens all the time, when people try to put us into the argument or side of the debate they think we're in, which is us characterizing everyone who dislikes something as some incel nazi racist, which just isn't the case. We're talking about review bombing a game. We're talking about a large minority online with a loud voice that is extremely toxic that comes back again and again, after TLJ, Death Stranding, Wonder Woman, and so on. This is like, basic facts and evidence after 4 years of Trump. And now they've come back to do it again with TLOU Part II, for the same and similar reasons. And yet here come people trying to say: "there are legit reasons to not like the game!" Okay, of course there are. We're not talking about that, so stop trying to make that argument?

He has literally ignored that part in every one of our posts. Pretty convenient

    Except:

    Exactly.

It's almost shocking some people can't see that it's not just a bunch of genuine, random people just giving a really well made game a 0/10 because they didn't like the direction the story took when the reviews came in based on online spoilers and not even playing the game itself. It's disingenuous. I am telling @AbsolutSurgen, I have named numerous examples where this has already happened in the past. Why continue to deny it's existence? It's really there. Here's an example of how The Last Jedi was targeted on RottenTomatoes.

    https://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/12/20/the-curious-case-of-the-last-jedi-and-its-rotten-tomatoes-audience-score

So no, it's not just a bunch of genuine users and some "bad apples". That's the same terrible argument people use for the police. It's systemic - there's a large group online that targets shows, movies, games, etc. that express certain themes or represent certain groups that they want kept down, bullied and downtrodden. Does that mean TLOU Part II is objectively perfect? No. Does that mean anyone who disliked it is an incel or racist? No. But the users review bombing it for the most part yes, are indeed some variation on that sliding scale of a group. They may couch their issues and criticisms in what sound like "real" things ("I didn't like the direction of the story" or "I didn't want to play it with this character") is codeIt's subtext, they are talking like a politician to hide their real feelings: those 0/10 user reviews are really saying: "I didn't like the themes of violence begets violence" and "I hate the vulnerability of the characters in the story" or "I'm a guy and so I can't play as a girl". It's almost naive to assume the best of intentions with consistent review bombing of only certain kinds of art. Hmmmm. I mean, why are user scores generally similar to critics scores elsewhere, and are 90% of the time pretty reliable? Hmmm. Weird it's only off-base with certain kinds of art. And always the same kinds of art. Strange. Hmmm. Weird.

Yup, female leads and prominent gay characters will 100% cause your game to be review bombed.

even FF7R, which was not review bombed, but had many user reviews criticize the game for treating the Honey Bee Inn scene as though transgenderism is not a mental disorder that should require a person to be shunned. People literally mad that thry treated a vulnerable community with respect.

A large majority of people are terrible, thats all there is to it. And their anger pervades every facet of their life. They are so miserable they want to ensure that certain groups will always be lesser, so as to believe they are superior to someone.

Who was in charge at the tail end of 2014 which led to the Kinda Funny crew + Colin bouncing?

Same people, but yhem leaving I don’t think had much to do with this. That was more them realizing they were popular enough to move out on their own while doing the exact same thing, with industry relationships in place, while being able to call their own shots.

  9. When people are afraid for their livelihood, they will put up with incredible amounts of stress, abuse, and disrespect. Its the major problem with our workforce, almost worldwide. Workers live in fear of losing low paying jobs because a couple of months without any pay is disastrous. The American Dream is dead, there are the rich and powerful, and the poor serfs. Its only the last two years that people have truly begsn to speak out, and its too late because everything is crumbling around us. Its not just the republic that is finished, the whole of civilization is built on so many false foundations that people believe can’t fail, and for years stood around the ramparts with swords and shields, thinking they were protecting polite society while the foundations crumbled underneath us.

Ill end my rant there, because im way off the topic of bad bosses.

People often given "0" reviews when they are angry about something.  Which is why user ratings can be very deceptive.  Almost no user review is worth reading, or is well thought out -- why would the "0" reviews be any better?

Valid point, but you’re still ignoring the part about people attacking it for having lesbian characters. And its not a small number doing it.

I've heard really compelling reasons for why people do, and don't like TLoU2.  I think everyone agrees on the quality of the graphics, voice acting and environmental design.  However, I have seen vastly differing opinions on the combat and story.

We do live in a world, where when people are "upset" they give it the lowest possible rating -- even if it deserves something higher.  You see it on Yelp and Amazon -- why wouldn't you see it on a Metacritic review.  I have no doubt that some of the review bombers are SJW-hating incels -- but after reading just a couple of the low reviews, it is pretty clear that at least some of them are very upset with the direction of the story.  And, given that many of the main plot points were spoiled weeks ago, its pretty easy to understand why those folks may have put in reviews before they had played much (or any of the game).  It is fairly easy to get games early in some places, there may have even been a group that played through the game as well.

However, the sentiment that "anyone who doesn't like the video game I like" is a racist, SJW-hating, Nazi incel is just comical.

Yes, but its been targeted for some games and movies. There were thousands of zeros Friday morning. Thats not giving it a lower score than it should. Its targeted. And 6/10 mention “lgtb bullshit” or “sjw narrative”. Its clear they never played the game, because the game is not focused on her being gay at all, its just who she is. No part of the driving force of this game has to do with her sexuality. So yes, a very large percentage are open bigots, and many others hide behind pc terms to pretend they aren’t bigots. No zero review is a well thought out review worth reading, at all, or worth keeping on your aggregate site.

  12. I beat this last night. I planned on jumping in to a bloodborne replay, but I think im going to buy Desperado 3 for something more lighthearted.

The game was incredible, definitely in my top 5 experiences this gen. The only games i liked more were bloodborne (this is by far my game of the generation), Spider-Man (I can’t think of a more “pure fun” gaming experience), BotW, and Sekiro.

I won’t get into my overall thoughts just yet, I definitely need time to process everything, and I want to wait until more have beaten it as well.

Man, quite a few angles of this game's reception have been some real eyebrow raisers for me. The initial backlash, which appears to be at least partly mired in sexism/racism (much of which is plain as day just looking at user reviews and searching "SJW"), the overzealous defense lumping all negative critical reception as this cockamamie incel-hate-drive, and the absolute worship of a giant corporation selling a product successfully as though that's a thing us consumers should light a bonfire and dance over.

    It's really quite nauseating!

Nobody is saying the game can’t get bad reviews, but thousands of zeros are an obvious hatE campaign. Im perfectly fine with anyone not liking it.

While I agree with you, you are being far too fair to users/the audience. Critics (actual, real critics) universally praised The Last of Us Part II, and having played 13 hours or so, even if I didn't like or enjoy the story or characters because I don't get to live out some old white man prepper power fantasy, which I do, the technical aspects of the game are so top notch as to make the user rating on Metacritic seems laughable. The people user review bombing this game are the same ones who hated the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, couldn't stand The Last Jedi (which was successfully review bombed on RottenTomatoes), and did their damndest to hate films online like Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel entering the superhero film space, much less being annoyed with films like Widows or Hustlers. There is a very clear lowest common denominator amongst all this incredulous, toxic, unearned hate and I think we can all see it all pretty clearly.

Even setting aside their sexism and racism, the average person who consumes art hates to have their expectations messed with. They want stories to play out the way they want them to play out. It's why everyone hated Walter White's wife in Breaking Bad because she was an obstacle to his success in the illegal meth drug industry. But then if they bothered to think about it for two seconds, one would see it's an innocent wife trying to save her family from her slowly going dark husband. She's not an obstacle, she's the moral compass. Same thing happened with Don Draper's wife on Mad Men, being more annoyed with her than him, even though he's doing all the cheating and not being there for his family because audiences just want the power fantasy of Walter White or Don Draper just "winning" all the time against cool villains who almost but not quite beat them.

Things like The Last Jedi, FF7R, The Last of Us Part II, etc. challenge all of that. It was why Avengers: Endgame was so universally loved even though I thought it was just okay. It was really well done but it played out exactly like one would more or less expect in terms of characters' dramatic arcs. Art like TLJ or FF7R push us in ways we don't like, or makes us uncomfortable, or isn't the way we saw things playing out, and I appreciate art that challenges us in this way more than things playing it safe. There's a real conversation to be had about whether TLJ or FF7R or TLOU Part II subvert and challenge expectations well and successfully (time usually only tells with this) or their gambits and storytelling choices didn't work, but to divest that conversation from the toxic user review bombing group who do it for all the wrong reasons is quite difficult and it's hard to separate it. Again, critics seem to be more objective here - they rated FF7R pretty well as well as TLJ and TLOU Part II and Wonder Woman, but before someone claims "Disney paid them off", etc.; critics were harder on Captain Marvel and had no love for Solo: A Star Wars Story or The Rise of Skywalker so critical bias just doesn't make sense. Critics don't always get it right, but their scores at least seem way more on point in these highly charged situations than users.

To be fair, Rise of Skywalker and Captain Marvel were both terrible.
