Interesting,
I'm hijacking this TV thread as I'm in the final fazes {within 8-12 months} of replacing our 65 inch Samsung living room TV with a 4k bells and whistles 75 inch. The wife was given full go ahead on new furniture and she did not disappoint as we now have 2 amazing new reclining couches and recline / rocker chair, new tables and lamps, etc. she used all of the 4k budget she was given too on just the couches, and 2 lamps {shes definitely my girl....lol}. So I'm reading, listening, watching all the advise given good stuff. If I were to do it now I'd go with the Sony 900f {?} but it's not over yet, and it seems some amazing new tech will be standard soon, hard to jump. VRR and HDMI 3.0 are biggies too . . .
The next HDMI standard is 2.1, not 3.0. 2019 flagship sets will most likely be HDMI 2.1, I’m almost definitely waiting at this point as we’re talking just 8-9 months.

In all seriousness, I've been dealing with depression for the last few months or so. Shit news like this is the last thing I need.
Upvoting not because I'm glad you're depressed, but because I can relate and it's the small things that glimmer and get you through.

Trump doesn't have to pick someone flashy, entertaining, or weird for SCOTUS.
He'll take the Federalist Society's recommendation and nominate someone presentable, qualified, and absolutely horrifying.
It's like picking Pence. Don't let the game show fool you. When it comes to the big decisions Trump knows where his bread is buttered.
Honestly, I just wanted the chance to call him "Milo Dannonyogurtcup".
I need that small bit of joy with this news.

Trump is going to nominate Milo Yiannopulos or someone similar.
I feel like he'll pick someone more like Judge Jeanine over a Milo Danonyogurtcup

There are no team takedowns in this, at least yet. They do herd, conspire amongst themselves and test your fences for weaknesses.
Meh.
In Genesis, the pack would chase after a goat/cow/whatever while one or two would break off and circle around to cut off the "food", leaping on it to take it down from the side.

Right, but those QLED's also don't have the telecine judder issue with BFI in 24fps content, I thought - again, I thought because of something in the hardware design. Perhaps LG can patch in software fixes for both those shortcomings though.
But that does address the issue of freesync 2 (which the Xbox uses) over HDMI 2.0, but not necessarily with higher than 60Hz 4K HDR. The most important benefits of freesync will be for lower frame-rate signals, though anyway, so there's still a good advantage there.Yes, VRR truly seems to shine in situations of inconsistent fps or below 60fps, which is why I feel as though it's must-have.
-
Doesn’t the QLED now allow HDR Freesync through HDMI 2.0 via it’s latest firmware update? XboneX is also now Freesync HDR compatible via an update (with HDMI 2.0).

Freesync doesn't allow for HDR though, does it? I thought you needed Freesync 2 for that. And I thought that for 4K HDR freesync 2 over 60Hz you needed HDMI 2.1. But again, I have bad info on that.
No clue in regards to HDR.

Hmm... I'm open to the possibility I'm wrong on that then. I had read somewhere that it would not be possible to be patched into 2018 TV's that weren't designed for it, but I don't remember where I read it at the moment, so I can't verify credibility.
I thought it was a hardware limitation with the TV and was the same reason why black frame insertion on the 2018 models introduces telecine judder for 24fps content.
Actual HDMI 2.1-standard VRR will not be able to be patched in. Freesync will. The question does become “will things that use HDMI 2.1 VRR also use non-HDMI 2.1 freesync” though. So, there is a potential “why even bother” aspect that may occur.

You are making this into some huge decision, while casually throwing out there that you are planning on getting a second tv anyway. Doesn’t seem like a “7-8 years” decision. I can understand a car decision, but a tv...
Don't mind me buddy, you do you. Good luck. Hope it all works out for you.
The second TV is some sub-$400 one for when I have company over that will be used once per month at most and will never be replaced unless it literally stops working. The main set is a $2-3k purchase that won’t be replaced for 7-8 years. Why in the world would I buy a set that’s literally going to be outdated via HDMI 2.1 and, most notably, VRR, in just 8-9 months? Furthermore, I am trying to make sure my money is going to the correct set for the money. If you like to piss away thousands every few months on new TVs, good for you.
Here’s a tip, if a discussion is going on that you dislike and wish to add nothing to, click on a different thread. Good luck in your future trolling.

Very similar to the original Jurassic Park Genesis, but with pretty visuals.
I never played the original, but love this one very much
Do the raptors have AI where they actually “hunt” and use flanking/pincer tactics to take down fleeing prey? In Genesis, that was one of my favorite things: watching the raptors use actual tactics when chasing things down.

It’s just a tv....
It’s just a large purchase that I only make every 7-8 years so it’s smarter to future proof it as much as possible instead of pissing money away.

A) LG can't announce a freesync/VRR update via firmware because they don't have the hardware in there to support it.
B) Dolby Vision is pretty prevalent in Netflix, Amazon Prime and Vudu content through apps native on the TV, even if you don't have any other hardware capable of sending Dolby Vision to the TV yet.
Freesync is software based.

You're a mess!
I never once argued to the contrary!
Final plans:
Option A.) IF LG announces a Freesync/VRR update via firmware for their 2018 OLEDs, I’ll buy immediately.
Option B.) I apparently have no use for Dolby Vision since I own nothing that supports it thus if the 2018 65” QLED drops in the low $2k range in the next 3-4 months, I’ll buy now.
Option C.) If A or B do not occur by the end of October, I’m waiting for the 2019 HDMI 2.1 sets.

I was told that I would suffer from burn-in on my Kuro, and that I should never game on it... 10 years later -- still going strong with no trace of it...
Unless you abuse it, you should be good with OLED.
I have a plasma. I rarely get IR and have never gotten burn-in. BUT the fear is always there, and I am constantly making sure that static images aren’t left on for too long or that if I pause something for several minutes that there will be a screen saver. Having that lifted would be nice.

The videos make this seem almost like a carbon copy of the previous (and seemingly forgotten) Jurassic Park theme park game from years ago. Not that it’s a bad thing!
LG OLED 65” C8PUA - good?

YEP!!!! People argue that you “shouldn’t chase technology”, I agree, you need to chase the “new standards” or “leaps”. Waiting a few months for something like VRR will likely allow you to hold on to your TV without feeling the “upgrade itch” for much longer than buying a current 2018 TV.
