I still need to watch the stream. But fuck those prices.

Actually, the pain will probably be on the other side.

Apparently the Non-founder's edition prices are slightly lower:

'Nvidia's event concluded by advertising prices "starting" at $499, $699, and $999, respectively for those same models—assumedly referring to video card partners producing their own models outside Nvidia's own Founders Edition line."

Not full ray tracing, I agree. But I think in the next few years we will see limited ray tracing for better effects and possibly low-quality (compared to fully ray tracing) implementations for approximate GI. Better GI is IMO one of the best ways to improve the naturalness of games.

That would be interesting to have a split on the same line, but that makes sense too.

I believe that AMD has the consoles locked up for the foreseeable future -- so unless AMD also goes this direction, it will be hard for it to hit the mainstream.

Will developers really incorporate Ray Tracing in their engines before a critical mass of people have these cards?

Yeah I think it's interesting to have that level of rebranding. It's been a long time with GTX and it's interesting that ray tracing is what is making them change it. If ray tracing really does start taking off though, I can see why. It will have pretty significant graphics ramifications.

I believe that Ray Tracing is the "future" of graphics -- but probably won't be mainstream for many years.

That said, I've read that GTX may stay around with the 2060 due to it's slower ray tracing performance...

I honestly have to see if the 2080ti can actually best the Titan V first! :p

Rumours are that it may be SLIGHTLY faster...

  4. The combat is actually one of the best parts of the game after you acquire a variety of weapons.  The first couple of hours are a little slow, and I definitely found myself underpowered.

But later....   fighting a Thinderjaw for the first time was so exhilarating.

Despite however much you love any open world game by any other developer, you can probably admit that Rockstar did it first or does it better. Their open world games have a life of their own and it's incredible every generation. GTA5 isn't my favourite game to play of all time, not by a long shot, but you have to respect the world they built. Can't wait to see first hand what they do with red dead 2.

They don't do driving/racing better than Forza Horizon 3 and they don't have anything that comes close to the ship-to-ship combat in ACIV.

Their western/Cowboy stuff is second to none.

  6. I didn't have much time to write my response earlier.

The Forza Horizon series is by far my most played series of games over the last 5 years.  Every year they come out, I am absorbed for about 2 months.  The driving is a great balance of arcade and sim, the challenges are fun, and there are tons of great cars to upgrade.  It just makes driving so FUN.  No other games even try to do this.  For this reason, to me, Playground Games is the best open world developer.
