  1. I'm a little late to the party on this one, but couldn't find a thread on it. Just finished all 10 episodes and this might be the best limited series of the year for me, even ahead of We Crashed (which was unbelievably good).

I won't say much, other than it's a dramatic retelling of the making of The Godfather, starring Miles Teller. It's amazing. Just watch it.

i thought it was an average at best movie. pretty disappointed honestly. i found myself not really caring much about how the movie was going to end.

That was one of my biggest gripes.

    Spoiler

Peele spent more time focusing on the animals and the difference between trained animals, wild animals, how they should be treated, instead of focusing on the characters. One little story about how the sister wasn't able to train her first horse was simply not enough to earn the reaction Peele was looking for at the end when both the brother and sister were trying to lure the creature away from each other.

There was a beat, where we got a shot/reverse shot of the two main characters pausing and looking at each other before the end, and it's intended to be an emotional pause, but it simply didn't resonate because we weren't given enough to actually care about them.

  3. Just got back, and pretty much anything I can say would be a spoiler. What I can say, oddly enough, is that if I had to compare this film to one other film, it would be... Us. It felt like the same movie, only with a different plot device at the core.

And reading through some of the spoiler filled reviews, I can see what Peele was trying to do with the contrast of the Jupiter ranch versus the Haywood ranch, but if he had spent a little less time on Yuen and his backstory, and more on the brother/sister connection (other than a single memory, which breaks a cardinal sin of filmmaking - don't tell, show), the resolution would have been a lot more emotionally powerful.

Parts of this movie definitely reminded me of Jaws, but the difference is, Jaws absolutely nails the characters. Nope feels kind of empty in comparison.

All that being said, it's definitely worth a watch, but as far as "horror" is concerned, don't expect much. It's more a drawn out episode of the Twilight Zone. The most terrifying scene in the film was "fake".

That felt like an awful lot of skirting around spoilers. :p

Looking forward to seeing the Truth Social post from Trump on Twitter claiming he could reach the steering wheel from the third row, that no one can reach a steering wheel as perfectly as he can.

I honestly believe he cares more about insinuating he can do anything better than anyone else... than criminally incriminating himself.

the F-14 Iran connection is coincidental to the more important task of the movie having the Tomcat in the film..

Cant wait to see it again

It was also a decision made to not date the film. By making it a nameless aggressor, it really could be anyone, and the "who" really is tertiary in the scheme of the plot.

Also, since it looks like they're going with 75 days until streaming instead of the current 45 days, I think I might break my theatrical record and see this for a 5th time.

Lord yes. For me, it hits all the tropes of vampirism perfectly.

I might be misremembering, but I’m pretty sure The Howling was the first time I saw a fully naked woman ever after turning on my TV when I woke up at night, and it was in.

Oh, The Howling was all about that sex. Human sex, werewolf sex... and the best werewolf transformation ever put to film (sorry, John Landis).

Did anyone else like Hemlock Grove on Netflix?  I liked it.

Never finished it. The Order on Netflix has some good werewolf effects. I'm definitely more team bipeds. It's rare that I like quadrupeds, but there are exceptions, such as London, Wolf Like Me (seriously, everyone watch that now--Isla Fischer & Josh Gad, and the finale does NOT disappoint), and Being Human.

Being Human (US) also has Starkiller as a vampire, which makes it a must watch.

Of course, you also have Buffy and Angel.

You ever read The Vampire Lestat graphic novel? Came out in the early 90's. I never read it and have no idea how it was recieved but I know it existed.

There's like 8 books in the series. The Vampire Lestat is probably my second favorite novel of all time after The MEG.

Definitely going to check out the graphic novel.

A lot of the ones already mentioned are great, just surprised no one has yet mentioned Neil Jordan's Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles. Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive is also very very good.

And yes, it is Interview with THE Vampire, not Interview with A Vampire.

Edit: And Emblazon does it at the same time I do. :p

Well fuck me. It's my second favorite book series, and I'm sure my brain knows the correct title, it just happened to fart when posting. I've read through Memnoch the Devil, and The Vampire Lestat is easily the best book in the series to that point (wish we'd have gotten a good film from that, instead of an Aaliyah music video.

Interview, however, is probably the only movie I feel surpassed the book. Even Anne Rice, RIP, felt that way.

Considering all these fine choices for vampire films, I can only conclude that the media has a significant anti-werewolf bias as there really has only been one good werewolf movie, and it was essentially a comedy (I'm referring to An American Werewolf in London, not Teen Wolf).

You'd be wrong. The Howling, The Wolf of Snow Hollow, Werewolves Within, Cursed, Wolf Like Me (Peacock show that does not disappoint), Silver Bullet, Underworld, Late Phases, DOG SOLDIERS, and the most recently released horror video game.

Ugh, really bad timing for that first episode </3

Edit: I would recommend just reading my spoiler and skipping to the theme song.

There is a flashback to the Hawkings Nation Lab in 79 where a bunch of kids are being taught how to use their psychic powers and 11 kills all of them... normally I'm not one to get upset about things but all things considered :|

For the spoiler... Keep watching. :D

When you all saw the movie, did your theater show a trailer for a movie called "Smile"? It was pretty quick and short but also creepy. I've been searching for a while now but I can find the trailer anywhere online.
