I just had a weird thought. The Phantom Menace and The Sixth Sense were the two highest grossing movies of 1999. What if Jake Lloyd and Haley Joel Osment had switched roles? TPM gets better, but like Kal points out, there's still a lot of problems there.

    It's more than the actor.

It's a trilogy and your first movie is set way before the fall of the republic/Anakin's relationship with Obi-Wan/the hunting down of the Jedi/Palpatine's influence on Anakin/getting to know Luke's aunt and uncle. That gives you two movies to do all that. While AOTC is a bad film, the first movie being set in that time period would have allowed more time to explore all of that.

And in the aunt/uncle case, explore it at all because Obi-Wan never really got to know them in the prequels yet has these memories of what Luke's uncle was like during the Clone Wars.

Games have evolved since the PS360 days. AA, B-tier games have been replaced by faux-retro pixel art indie games and the AAA stuff has been more focused on monetization than offering better balanced games.

I've seen the opposite happen: after the scare people had earlier in the gen, many AAA games are contained experiences (like the recent Star Wars games the past two years, also getting away from just Battlefront games). Sony's games stayed true to that, with Cory Barlog posting this mid-gen:

And indie games aren't really replacing AA games; it's just that more people with very small studios can actually break into the industry now. And stuff like Dead Cells is the bee's knees.

I feel like I've been seeing more AA tbh. It amazes me that a AA can be something indie like The Witness, or as content-filled as Nier: Automata or Persona 5.

  4. 93 from Game Informer: "For newcomers, Demon’s Souls will be the first exploration into the duality of despair and triumph, and hopefully go on to become a starting point for new Souls fans. For veterans, it’s a homage to an experiment that kicked off a fantastic genre. Either way, it’s wonderful that the nascent ethers from the original classic have coalesced and given us this delightful treat."

News of the appointments buoyed the hopes of progressives who have been skeptical about whether Biden would try to rein in Wall Street.

    Quote

Leading the transition’s preparation to run financial regulatory agencies is Gary Gensler, an Obama-era regulator — and former top Goldman Sachs executive — who enraged big banks by imposing sweeping new rules on the industry in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.

Gensler's team includes former Democratic congressional aides who played a major role in drafting tougher laws for financial firms after the subprime meltdown and later fought efforts to water them down. One member has rattled bank executives for years as the head of one of Washington’s leading financial reform groups, Better Markets. Another is an advocate for the Postal Service offering financial services that would compete with banks.

    Quote

But progressives are hopeful that the president-elect will heed the calls of many in his party to crack down on financial firms that they say escaped significant penalties for their role in the 2008 crisis and have benefited from looser regulation and tax cuts under Trump.

"Joe Biden branded himself as a candidate who evolves along with the rest of the Democratic Party, and that's clearly true on financial regulation,” said Jeff Hauser, executive director of the Revolving Door Project. “Biden's team is vastly more independent from the financial sector than Hillary Clinton's team was set to be four years ago."

Indeed, the announcement of the transition team fed the worst fears of bankers that Biden could lurch left when it comes to financial oversight. It “didn’t give me a warm fuzzy feeling,” one official at a major bank said. Bank lobbyists said it was a bad sign that there weren't more transition team members with competing views, including industry representatives.

  6. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Never thought this would be a good couples game, but it is!

I'm playing through the collection slowly. I love this series: very funny, swerves and turns like a 50-car pileup, and Cases 4 and 5 are just lovely top to bottom. Also, the music you get catching someone in a contradiction makes you feel like the ultimate badass.

They're largely a port/remaster studio.  I don't think they've made an original game in almost 15 years.  Why bother.

    Fixed.

(Technically, they also did some X360 ports too.)

    From the OP:

    From Bluepoint's angle:

They want to make sure they get a shot at an original IP, they don't want to be simply a "remake studio" (Even if they make more remakes)

    Quote

    From Sony's angle:

Very impressed with the work-ethic from Bluepoint. Creates groundbreaking remakes, at a good pace.
They have a good relationship with other SIE studios, particularly Sony Japan Studios that they worked together with during both Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls. (Ape Escape fans, whatupppp) ((that wasn't an ape escape remake teaser, literally don't know anything about what they're doing after souls))
The expertise, skill, and tech that Bluepoint has for their remakes can be used for future projects not necessarily made by them. (In other words, if Team Asobi decides to create an Ape Escape Remake, they can go to Bluepoint for help)

Barack Obama directly confronts the racist politics of President Donald Trump in the first volume of his post-presidency memoir, bluntly suggesting how he believes his historic election in 2008 opened a wave of bitter and divisive turmoil that fueled Republicans' obstructionism and ultimately changed the party, according to a copy of the book obtained by CNN.

On racism and why he picked Biden:

    Quote

When describing his decision to criticize the arrest of Henry Louis Gates in 2009, Obama recalls how then White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs asked if he would consider clarifying his statement. Obama writes that he told his top aide it will "blow over," but he was wrong, learning later from his polling director that the incident caused a huge drop in support among white voters that he never recovered.

"The reaction to my comments on Gates surprised us all," Obama writes. "It was my first indicator of how the issue of Black folks and the police was more polarizing than just about any other subject in American life."

    Quote

"One of the reasons I'd chosen Joe to act as an intermediary -- in addition to his Senate experience and legislative acumen -- was my awareness that in McConnell's mind, negotiations with the vice president didn't inflame the Republican base in quite the same way that any appearance of cooperation with (Black, Muslim socialist) Obama was bound to do,"

    On Trump and Republicans:

    Quote

"It was as if my very presence in the White House had triggered a deep-seated panic, a sense that the natural order had been disrupted," Obama writes. "Which is exactly what Donald Trump understood when he started peddling assertions that I had not been born in the United States and was thus an illegitimate president. For millions of Americans spooked by a Black man in the White House, he promised an elixir for their racial anxiety."

    Quote

"In that sense, there wasn't much difference between Trump and Boehner or McConnell. They, too, understood that it didn't matter whether what they said was true," he writes, adding: "In fact, the only difference between Trump's style of politics and theirs was Trump's lack of inhibition."

    On Palin:

    Quote

"Through Palin, it seemed as if the dark spirits that had long been lurking on the edges of the modern Republican Party -- xenophobia, anti intellectualism, paranoid conspiracy theories, an antipathy toward Black and brown folks -- were finding their way to center stage," Obama writes

    Quote

Obama writes that he "wonder(s) sometimes" about whether 2008 Republican nominee John McCain would still have picked Palin if he had known "her spectacular rise and her validation as a candidate would provide a template for future politicians, shifting his party's center and the country's politics overall in a direction he abhorred."

"I'd like to think that given the chance to do it over again, he might have chosen differently," Obama writes. "I believe he really did put his country first."

    On the 2010 midterms:

    Quote

"As far as I was concerned, the election didn't prove our agenda had been wrong," Obama writes of 2010. "It just proved that... I'd failed to rally the nation, as FDR had once done, behind what I knew to be right. Which to me was just as damning."
