I know I’m going to have a fair few drinks today and whilst I never buy anything drunk…hungover purchases are a different matter. We need a new TV so I’ve got my eye on a 50” Samsung and it might make sense to also get Spiderman and Pikmin 4 to celebrate that fact.

3rd dungeon down in Minish Cap and it’s amazing that 2004 Nintendo game can feel so much like a great 2023 indie game. I’ve used a guide a handful of times, not because the game is ever hard, but it’s nice not having to overthink parts of the game (not the puzzles, more some of the obscure parts of progression).
Again, Switch Expansion pass is well worth it and I’m wondering just how many GBA, GBC, and N64 games I’ll play through over the next year.
-
It’s been ages since I played a rally game (V Rally 99), but there was a stone I loved a racing game- but that also coincided with having hours of free time.
-
I’ve been playing Minish Cap and I’ve completed the first two dungeons. Game is wonderful and for someone that likes the more traditional Zelda, is a great, modern feeling version of the formula (compared say with GBC games which feel a bit too close to Links Awakening - and the unnecessary challenge of them). I think I’ll finish this and then play through Metroid Fusion as HLTB tells me its only 5 hours.
After that, I’ll grab a few Switch games I want and balance them wit God of War.

The premise I love and the tone - but the jank (and the saving system) killed the first game for me. Give me that odd tone, the weapons, the setting, photography etc but complete remove any aspects that aren’t player focused/design choices that inhibit gamer fun.

@gamer.tv What is a hospital prison? Is it cozy?
I’m guessing it’s a secure ward for mental health. -
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Metroid Prime Remastered
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Spiderman: Miles Morales
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
Super Mario WonderWonder is fucking great, just really, really great. There’s a person out there who has this as their first side scrolling Mario game and they’re a lucky person.

I’m always surprised by the complete and utter nintendofication of Japan. I know on the grand scheme, it’s not as important as a region as it was 20 years ago but still…

I can neither confirm or deny this. However, if you put us side by side you could make a very easy guess.- 1

When I was 16 I was in a music video for a local band where my opposite co-star has since been in Les Mis for a 3 year run and plays Elsa in London.

I'm genuinely impressed by your budgeting acumen, especially for that type of endeavor!
It helped having a lot with us, but seemingly each adult did a similar thing so even with presents, toys, food, the odd fast track it wasn’t horrific. Though in reflection, most sites say to bring £1500 for a 3 day trip…which I think we all ended up doing. -
I mean, firstly what a wonderful trip. I went with my wife, daughter (3), sister, brother-in-law and niece (5) and everyone had a mega fun time. There’s always the feeling that you’d like more time, but apart from two rides, we did everything we wanted to do.
My favourite, subtle win however has been budgeting a stupid amount of money, just in case, and returning with maybe half of it? It did help that a lot of our trip was prepaid (food, hotel, transfers, flights, entry), but still - not a bad way to enter 2024.
We think we might look to go to California in 5 years time so that’ll be fun! Also probably just enough time to save up to go at either Christmas, Easter, or over the Summer.

I know it’s a ridiculous service, but the Expansion Pack on Switch is just great. GBA and N64 alone make the entry point worth it and even if the controls occasionally suck, it’s just great. Also, Jungle on GoldenEye can fuck off, worse as the next level is Control.
Control can indeed fuck off. Even on Agent I’ve had to restart 5 times due to varying degrees of mid-90s gaming bullshit. (Natalya running into a crate that was blowing up, being swamped by grenades, going back through a door and essentially soft locking myself from the game, dying by being knocked from one bullet to another).
I’ve played some Super Mario Wonder as a palette cleanser and it’s just great - but I’m vaguely determined to finish GoldenEye and then start on either Minish Cap or Metroid Fusion.

Yea. NES was absolutely brutal even for adults at the time. Games are easier now for sure but maybe I lack patience rather than skill at my age. Especially since you can hold your own with difficult games.
But that was mainly as games were less than an hour in length to complete- the longevity came from having to repeat a cycle multiple times until you’d mastered a stage/level/game- 1

Right, someone make a thread/poll asking for ages.

At least you get summer vacation.
I won’t lie, when you’re on top of things, the 13 weeks of holiday is spectacular. When you’re not, it’s still a welcome respite and time to catch up.- 1

It’s like our equivalent of crunch.
Normal teaching work load that needs sorting (as per).
Organising trips to go ahead at the start of next year.
Planning out events for next half term.
Risk Assessments, parent letters and actual logistics for the above.
Re-writing staffing timetables, interventions, individual education plans, SEND reviews, attendance conversations for children between 90-95%…
Theatre trip with 2 bespoke risk assessments.
Christmas Concert rehearsals and performance (also needing a risk assessment).
Special after school children’s event.
Ensuring that all the curriculum is covered, despite losing about a week of the year due to all the extra bits going on.
It’s about as busy as doing the job twice for the past 3 weeks.
Still the best job ever mind.

I’ve mulled over what I’d like to see for the next game and have two strands:
Idea One
Traditional Zelda approach (iterative items, metroidvania) but use the concept from Link Between Worlds and have items available to rent on completion of side quests and main line quests to earn money. I’d even be OK with it using the style of Links Awakening (remake) which I loved. This would be a quick turn around for Zelda and could well be farmed out to
Capcom/Namco etc
Idea Two
In a similar vibe to modern Zelda, have a few key powers that can be employed: sword, shield, and bow (no degradation please) and focus on a more story-heavy, full VO experience. Puzzles (Dungeons, Temples, Caves) that use the more limited powers and weapons to solve but have a large ‘scope’.
Both would work for me and I would be happy for both to be released with the matter being what I want from the next main game - marrying of the old and the new.

Looks like we’ll finally be getting that FPS Zelda Miyamoto wanted back in ‘95.

No, just 4K LED. I can’t bring myself to buy anything too nice with a 3 year old pottering about. This will hopefully see us through for the time being and then, maybe next time around, we can go luxury.
