  1. I play games for the enjoyment I get from playing them. Challenging sometimes fits into that category, but not always. Not even really often if I'm being honest. There are very few games I play on the hardest difficulty or play it knowing that its a challenging game.

I've never played a Diablo game. Is the second one a good place to start?

Gameplay wise Diablo 2 is a much better game.

Lore wise you could probably watch a short video to get the important events from Diablo 1.

That said I have a soft spot for Diablo 1. I can't say it runs stellar on modern PC's though, even with the HD mods out there, but there is nothing quite like facing off against the butcher for the first time.

Diablo II Resurrected (or whatever they call it) will be a nice holdover until then, especially since I never really played much of the original.

If D2R was being made by Team 1 and subsequently Vicarious Visions, I have doubts it would ship this year. If it was being handled by VV from the beginning then maybe.

I think Immortal will be the only Diablo release this year, but who knows.

My daughter beat shovel knight when I couldn't.  I feel I should quit now.  That is worse than a mortal combat finish.

I always feared the day my nephew would beat me in Halo. Luckily even though he loves playing Halo, he sucks at it, so I get to hold onto that for a little bit longer.

I would honestly avoid boss strategies as much as you can. With a couple exceptions, many of the bosses you can hide from and try to figure out, including the Tower Knight, by looking at his patterns.

For many of the bosses in Demon's Souls specifically, there is a much easier way to take them down than their appearance would indicate.

Oh for sure, going in dark is a much better experience. I was just trying to say don't be ashamed if you need to look up a boss.

So I finally cleared it all. Hands shaking like a leaf. I’m standing at the fog wall. And to the left is a locked door I didn’t notice before. There ‘s a bloody message stating “find the key”. So I’m thinking - ok, I know there’s 2 archers upstairs that I died to stupidly bc I didn’t eat some herbs. The key must be up there. And I bet it unlocks a shortcut so I can bypass most of the bridge as I’m sure beyond the fog wall is a boss.

nope. No key anywhere. Go through the fog wall and yep, it’s a boss. The tower knight who lights me the fuck up. So now I am all the way back at the beginning again. Lol.

for real. Y’all a bunch of fucking masochists.

My first Souls game was Demon Souls on the PS3. I played the game for probably an hour and thought it was the stupidest thing I'd ever played. Didn't touch another Souls until either Bloodborn or Dark Souls 3. Trust me I get it, there are some bosses where you just have no idea what to do, I beat the spider boss purely just by healing through it, I didn't know that you had to run all the way back to avoid his oil/flame thing. Don't feel bad if you have to look up strategies to kill bosses. I do it, a lot of my friends do it, and just because you know the strategy doesn't mean its always easy to pull off. It just takes time, patience, and getting use to the gameplay.

What’s the hate with Razr about?

Typically price for what you are getting. The Naga (probably one of Razers most notable products) isn't anything fancy and there is a dozen or so mice that are the exact same for much cheaper. Same goes for their keyboards, their switches are just rebranded switches with minor adjustments.

Their aesthetics aren't for anyeveryone, and they have a reputation for poor quality control and reliability.

The Huntsman is actually pretty minimalist compared to the blackwidow. They also make a blackwidow lite that has this same style.

Definitely full size. I don’t care about the macro and media buttons, really.

I think I’d prefer tactile. Husband has one that’s really clicky and I get tired of that.

Ducky One 2 $99 - Mechanical Keyboards is nice because they give you a large range of switches to choose from. For instance if you lean towards MX brown but want something a little heavier you can get MX clears or get silent versions of switches with Silent Black/Red. There are also several options of keycap colors, I just linked the first one.

Razer Huntsman $150 - Probably will catch a lot of flak for this one, but go type on one of these at Best Buy, seriously. It a wild experience. Most mechanical keyboard have a weightyness to them, some scratchiness (why lubing is so big in custom keebs). This thing glides like butter on top of a hot pancake. I'm 100% buying the 60% variant when it goes on sale for under $100.

I can't really recommend anything else in the price point. I've used Razer for most of my mechanical keyboards until I got into custom keyboards. I never had a bad experience with them, but I know that a lot of people are anti-razer. The blackwidow is currently on sale for $70 Best Buy link

A few of my friends have the Logitech, but I'm fairly certain they use Romer switches which I know little to nothing about.

So I’ve had my current keyboard for over a decade, but I wanna make the switch to mechanical. I’m pretty much in the dark about them.

i don’t want to spend crazy, preferably under $100.

Is there anything particular you'd like?

Form Factor? Full size, TKL, 60%?

    Media buttons? Macro Buttons?

Moving in mechanical you'll have a different selection of switches as well.

Tactile - A short bump while depressing the key

Linear - No bump, just a smooth key press

Clicky - Tactile but with an loud audible click

I’m on 1-2 and the bridge is just kicking my ass. With all the archers and the knight that charges you. The dragon at your back. I made it once past the archers and the 2nd knight. I then forgot to eat some health, got up the stairs and got hit with an arrow and died. I wanted to throw my controller through my tv. What am I doing wrong here?

I absolutely love the atmosphere of this game. The gameplay is really good. I really  love the story and basically non-existent dialogue or frequent cut scenes. The environment really does such a good job of telling the story (kinda reminds me of ICO/SOTC in that regard). The sound is fantastic. It truly feels like a next-gen game.

but...I cannot deal with punishment factor. Having to constantly run back is just ruining it for me. I really don’t know how you guys can stick with it and not get both completely frustrated and bored.  This game is all about repetition. Being someone who has never replayed a game in my  life once I’ve beaten it, I think this is where the game is going to lose me.

Well, it looks like you just forgot to heal.

You can bypass the first part of the bridge by going underneath, for the other parts just bait the dragon out so it'll wipe the enemies in your way and follow as close as you can behind him so you won't have to worry about him making a second pass. The last part will have 2 or 3 archers left and a knight. The knight is separated a little bit, so I usually just kill the archers as quickly as possible and then deal with the knight.

Just wait until you get to the mindflayers area (I don't remember what its called). If they get a hold of you its pretty much auto death, so much time just spent sitting inside a door frame so they get in range and don't have time to cast anything.

I haven't played Hades yet, but I do have a similar opinion to yours about roguelikes. I played Rogue Legacy, and I had fun, but losing everything and getting different stats or perks instead of what I originally had was never that exciting for me.

However, I loved Dead Cells, and some of the things I loved about it seem similar to what they're saying about Returnal and what I've heard about Hades. Basically, yes, you don't have the stuff you received during your playthrough, but in Dead Cells, there were separate upgrades that remained the same for each playthrough. That would allow you to start with better weapons, find better stuff, upgrade the difficulty, and permanently upgrade your stats and abilities. So even though I "started over," I felt like I was going somewhere, both with the upgrades I accumulated and due to getting good, and I was going through a different level design.

So I ended up with, like, 70+ hours or something on it, and I would usually avoid those games. Add Housemarque's arcade gameplay, and I'm there Day 1. :-O

I'll add it to my wishlist on steam and when they have a good sale on it I'll pick it up.

Stop it Nintendo.  The rumours of a Switch Pro have perpetually kept me away from buying a newer model despite me very much wanting to sell my launch model for the improved battery life.

I swapped mine out when Gamestop was doing that deal to trade yours in and get a new one for $100. I gotta say it was worth it IMO, but that might just be me justifying my purchase lol.

    Have you played Dead Cells?

No, not yet. I hear good things about it, but same issue. I have a hard time committing money to something I know I'll probably put down a short time later.

Gunfire Reborn is probably the most time I've put into a roguelike at around 30 hours.

Everything else is probably under 5 hours, including the much loved Hades.

  14. Omori

I was a little hesitant to play this. I didn’t love Undertale as much as the rest of the internet did. A buddy and I bought this on a whim and have pretty much been playing it every night since. I finished it up tonight and he’s about 3-4 hours behind me.

I loved everything about it. The soundtrack is unique, but fun a lot of the time. Sometimes somber, other times gives you that warm fuzzy feeling. Love the aesthetics, again, a little iffy going into it, but there’s so much charm there. I didn’t dig super deep into the battle system, but using emotions and pairing them with team members was fun. Making Kel annoy Aubrey to turn her into a DPS machine with headbutt, or having omori make himself sad so that he can ignore defense and crit people. It’s a cool system and I wish I’d spent more time tinkering, but I do what I normally do and find something that works and stick with it. The story is a trip, but I heartily enjoyed it. I don’t want to go into too much detail, there is a couple iffy things about the true ending, but I’m choosing to ignore it as I don’t think it would really change anything.
