I never suggested he stay silent, and I'm certainly not saying he has to do anything.

But it does come off as disingenuous to be as upset as he seems, have power to do even more, not give his reasons why he won't do more, claim it's because of legal obligations rather than contractual ones (which are not the same) but then continue on a soapbox but not do everything one could.

That's my assessment. And as much as he can do what he wants, I can judge him for what he does. He may not have to do anything (and not have to do more) but it is disappointing.

You and sblfilms should really let go of the "legal/contractual" mix-up. He's not a lawyer and he clearly misspoke.

SFLUFAN definitely said he should stay silent, or destroy himself for the sake of his raunchy colleague. And that's honestly dumb. He has the power to do more? What? Lose his career so that Gunn might be able to continue his? This isn't preventing WW3, I don't know why you think he should die on his sword over this.

    Except . . .

    This.

It's just strange for me to see someone who seemingly cares so much about this not do everything they can about it (when they could, in theory, actually do more to effect change), that's all. I don't think that's a strange position to take. I'm sure he has his reasons, but he should be forthcoming about them if he's going to ring this alarm bell so much.

It's good for him, his family, and his associates that he doesn't have to appease you. You're making ridiculous demands on him, as if this is a civil rights issue. He's outraged, but he's saying he won't abandon his obligations. I think it would be more cowardly to keep silent, as some here believe he should, considering it's still a risk to his job to speak out publicly.

  3. I'm not going to be that harsh on Bautista. Sure it'd be entertaining to see him or others from the cast walk off over this, but I'm not in his situation. I can't claim to know what it feels like to work for a giant like Disney. Walking off might not just mean getting fired, it might mean a lawsuit, and one you can't win. That's a bit of an extreme loss for some outrage. So I'm totally fine with just voicing it.

T2 has a far more nuanced and compelling story that sadly doesn't really seem to reach a lot of people. T2 challenges the very idea of the first: that AI are dangerous monsters who will kill us if we develop them. The thesis of the second is that intelligent machines can be a force for good, or evil. It's a reflection of ourselves. It succeeds in building an actual relationship between the humans and the T800, including even Sarah Connor who is forced to confront her worst nightmares to do so. It makes you feel for the uncompromising emotionless machine.

T1 is just a monster movie.

    My thoughts stated perfectly.

T2 is indeed one of the greatest action movies of all time and very much outdoes its predecessor in every way.

It's just not necessarily a better film.

I compare the relationship between T1 and T2 in the same way as I compare The Raid 1 and The Raid 2:  these are cases where "more" isn't necessarily "better".  For me, there is a "focused leanness" in both T1 and The Raid 1 due to budget constraints that's simply  not there in T2 or The Raid 2.  In both T1 and The Raid 1, there is no "fat", nothing extraneous to draw the focus of the characters and the audience away from the onscreen action.  The audience -- like the characters -- is present in the "here and now" of the events as they unfold in practically "real time".  Another film that contains this type of focus is Mad Max: Fury Road, for example.  Everything that's not directly related to the onscreen events is stripped away to leave only the barest of narratives upon which to hang the film.  And it works magnificently!

But for me, the factor the elevates T1 above T2 is the sheer cosmic horror of the T-800 itself.  When I describe T1 as a one of the best horror films ever made, it's the T-800 that makes it so.  The T-800 in T1 is an absolutely unforgiving, absolutely relentless, absolutely unreasoning force of nature.  It's both primal and calculating in a way that is almost impossible for the human mind to comprehend.  It is the technological incarnation of both man's follies and greatest achievements.  The T-800 is Mike Meyers, Freddie Krueger, and Jason Voorhees combined in an infinitely more frightening package because it represents a possible future that we could very well create inadvertently.

It isn't necessary that "more is better". It's that T2 takes what was essentially a horror movie icon as you describe and turns it completely on its head. I think the concept and especially the execution of that simple idea is brilliant.

Venom works best when he's tied to Spider-Man, so I don't get how this movie is going to work. Venom should be like a shadow, haunting Spider-Man because he knows who he is. The episode he first appeared in the '90s animated show was perfect.

I noticed he doesn't have the spider emblem on his chest here, and uses tendrils instead of webs. So maybe they're skirting around the issue of him copying Spider-Man in some way.
