Maybe it was mid, maybe it wasn't but it certainly was an original IP with a great look to it which I'll always give a game extra points for. It feels a bit unfair to hold a 9 year old game's feet to the fire especially when iterations of games come out and improve on the original's ideas quite often. Think of something like an Assassin's Creed which built on the original in a good way. Insomniac has the framework but have no way to make a sequel to it that would improve on it.

Actually they do. Insomniac retained the rights to the Sunset Overdrive IP. The only thing stopping them is Sony.

  2. Been a bit of a slow burn lately... I've finished a lot of the games that I was currently already playing, so now it's down to games that I hadn't even started yet.

On a different note, I was well prepared for this process to take a year or so... but now the wife wants to start saving to buy a new house, starting in January. So if I want to get a VR headset, it might have to be sooner than later, cuz I won't have much disposable income once that starts :/

  3. I know virtually nothing (pun intended) about VR headsets, but I've been thinking about getting a Quest 3.

Is the Meta store the only place you can get games for the Quest? I can't think that the games are compatible across devices, but it would seem to me like the games on Steam would be compatible with more than just that uber-expensive Steam VR headset.

  4. In ramping up to full production, the massive scope of our ambition became clear. To release and support The Last of Us Online we’d have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post launch content for years to come, severely impacting development on future single-player games. So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service games studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage.

Translation: "We didn't wanna fuckin do this. Jim was makin us fuckin do this. We don't wanna support this shit for the next five years. We just don't wanna fuckin do it. Fuck Jim. Fuck 'em."

I think Dallas and Austin are more accessible to other nearby states. Dallas gets a lot of regional conventions.

Austin is a shit show anywhere near downtown and expensive as hell, and Dallas is not near anyone. San Antonio is relatively inexpensive and way more accessible for most of the state. And the show would've been successful enough with JUST the people from Texas. It is kind of large.

I agree that the big publishers were sparse. I think one year Capcom was there with Resident Evil 7 and Monster Hunter and then Sony had a pretty cool Days Gone booth one year, but yeah after that it was mainly indie devs, which was also cool. But that said, that's PAX's job to sell publishers on why they should be there. Just like it was the ESA's. When they said they weren't growing, it was their own fault. I remember the way they worded the statement, it sounded like it was due to lack of attendance, and that certainly wasn't the case.

  6. Kinda reminds me of PAX South. I live in Texas and we don't get shit for gaming conventions, so I was super excited for PAX. I went every single year, and every single year it was packed. But I noticed the final year they did it that it had kinda been the same shit for the past two years.

When they finally killed it they said that it "hadn't reached the growth that they had wanted" or some bullshit like that. All I could think was "who's fault is that?" Because they had an entire state, and fucking large one at that, that was chomping at the bit every year.

  7. Yep, I was sitting in our tiny shoebox apartment when I got the DM on the IGN boards to tell them to fuck off and come over to Bad Cartridge. My profile says I joined on Dec 31, 2010 which sounds about right. I got married in Oct. of 2010 which explains the tiny shoebox apartment.

And similarly, the chef can decide if they don't want to make that anymore even if they potentially lose your business.

If a dev chooses to make something in the same style as something old, that's fine. But insisting that dev only regurgitate what's done is unhealthy for the industry. The number one thing gamers should push for is letting developers make the games they want to make.

That is true. They won't mourn my loss, and I will find what I'm looking for elsewhere. I didn't say they MUST make it like the old Zeldas. I said I'd be fine with it if they did.

  9. Ya know, I used to go to this one Italian restaurant and I'd get the chicken cacciatore, every time. One time, one of the servers that knew me as a regular, said to me, "You order the same thing every time you come in here. You should try something different for a change." I told them I try different things all the time, but I go there when I want chicken cacciatore.

    Same goes with Zelda.

I'd be perfectly fine if they went back to the traditional LoZ style of adventure game. BotW and TotK wasn't it.

Sega has been really supportive of games pass so perhaps they all release day one there.

More like Xbox has been really supportive of Sega.

It's interesting because these "small" games like Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe, etc are the opposite of what big publishers want nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised if they do pop onto Game Pass day one, and I also wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft partially funded their development.

Pure speculation on my part, but MS and Sega have been pretty cozy with each other ever since those photos popped up making it look like MS was gonna buy them.

  11. I was in Best Buy yesterday and they have Crisis Core FFVII for Xbox/PS5 for about $20.

I never played CC so I'm not real familiar with it, but I remember people really liking it back on PS2 or PS Vita or whatever it was on. Is it a good one? Is the combat like FFVII Remake cuz I didn't care much for it.
