That’s cool. Not sure why, but I was under the impression you didn’t like Nintendo games. Maybe I misunderstood.

I do like Nintendo games. But I rarely buy video games at full price anymore, and while MS, Sony and PC regularly see some pretty good discounts, Nintendo sales suuuuuck.

I own Mario Kart 8, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and had Mario Odyssey and those are literally the only first party titles I've been willing to buy. The Switch has been mainly a third party indie console for me.

I'm shocked we're getting a new Endless Ocean. I really liked both games on the Wii and assumed we'd never get another one.

Random tangent, but I'd love an Endless Ocean like game in VR. The ones I've tried are either some sort of stressful survival game or some ocean exploration game where you just look at fish and there isn't some story or mystery to uncover.

Yeah I had one of them on the Wii, and it was cool, but using the wii remote sucked when all you want to do is sit back and play a chill game. Both the wife and I got tired of using it. This would should be different though (and won't look like ass on an HDTV).

    @XxEvil AshxX somehow missed:

Remember custom soundtracks on Xbox where you could rip your own CD and then put music into the game and for certain games you could customize what music is used where like in NFL2k5?

I will forever have my Burnout 3 play list etched into my brain. And if I forget for some reason, it's still on there lol.

  4. Remember when big AAA developers were excited about new technology and wanted to utilize it in their games? They don't even try anymore. The PS5 has a whole list of gimmicky shit in their controller that nothing uses.

Remember when Rainbow Six let you use the Xbox headset to communicate with your AI teammates? And if you had the headset plugged in, their comm speak came through the headset instead the TV? And if you were wearing the headset while playing Splinter Cell co-op, if you talked too loud it would alert nearby bad guys? That was cool as shit.

Remember when you could use the vision cam or the eye toy to take a photo of yourself for your Burnout Paradise driver's license? Gimmicky, yes, but it was funny as shit when playing online.

Remember when the Dreamcast had an LCD screen on the memory card? And you could take it with you places and play little minigames that tied back into your main game when you got home?

Remember when developers were excited about physics in games, and you could actually use the physics in your game to your advantage? I'm playing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic right now and its so unintentionally hilarious what you can do to the bad guys just using the physics in the game.

Remember when Psycho Mantis moved your fucking controller? Yeah you do. Was it stupid? Yes. Was it awesome? Yes.

I realize that all these things were gimmicks. But they were at least trying something different, and there was enthusiasm. Nintendo, for all its weird decisions, at least still seems to be playing with new ideas, even if they don't all land.

Now we're all just jaded and grouchy and bitch about everything to the point where nobody wants to try anything anymore.

  5. Most of the tentpole PS5 games also have PS4 versions that look and play just fine. What exactly would this PS5 Pro be doing?

Espcially when the industry seems to be scaling back a bit so that games don't take quite so long to make, or cost as much money. I think we're hitting a threshold with graphical quality being dictated not by the hardware, but by the budget.

  6. Ys X just got confirmed for the West this fall. Just an FYI.

Also... I was starting to play through the Ys series, starting from the first one. I had to stop. This is a series that I will need to play when I don't mind wandering aimlessly for hours. These first two games are awful.

I know they more modern ones are better, and I've played a fair bit of Ys VIII and it's pretty good. But these early ones are rough.

  7. So this is just kind of a remake of the old Game Boy Color one? With the key you had to get to the door by putting it on conveyor belts and shit?

Ugh, I played through all 100 levels of that or whatever it was back in the day. I don't know if I could get myself to do it again. To be completely honest, the game wasn't all that fun, but it was at a time when I only got what my parents bought me and I had to make due.

  8. I've been looking for this one for a while. I missed it when it was new because at the time, it was kind of market over-saturation with LotR shit. But I recently saw it on a Youtube list for best ARPG's and I never realized it was that kind of game. So I've been looking for it ever since, but because of the LotR licensing, it had been pulled from PC stores, so physical was the only way to get it (besides emulation and I tried that, it's not in a good state on Xenia). So I kept an eye on Amazon but most of the used copies were going for $20 on the cheap end, and with used shit on Amazon you just kinda don't know what you're going to get.

BUT.. I stopped by a retro games shop this week on a whim and they had a copy of it for $15.

I've only played a little bit of it but so far it's a pretty cool game. I love hack n slash ARPGs and have kinda been collecting them both through purchased copies and.. more unofficial means... but it's crazy how this one flew under the radar for me until recently.

Can't you change the resolution settings in the game you're playing to go to 3840x2160?

That should be the case. If the deck is powerful enough to run the game at that resolution is another thing.

You can change the output resolution.

Can you? I tried doing it in-game and the highest I could get was 1280x720 in a few games. Do I need to go through the dash? I couldn't figure out how to get the right-side menu to pop up, only the "guide button" menu.

Admittedly I didn't tinker with it too much last night, the wife was wanting to watch her shows. I'll give it another look this afternoon.

I'd be fine with a 1080p output, but the upscaling for the native res was a bit too much for that big of a screen.
