Unsurprisingly, DDR6 memory will gradually replace the current DDR5 memory over the next few years, but what do we actually know about the upcoming memory standard...
    Quote

If we take the speeds officially approved by JEDEC as a benchmark, the maximum data rate was doubled from 3,400 MT/s to up to 6,400 MT/s with the introduction of DDR5 compared to DDR4. Samsung is forecasting a similar increase for DDR6, which will operate at up to 12,800 MT/s as DDR6-12800.

It should be noted that these are only the official standard speeds specified by JEDEC, which could be far exceeded by overclocked (OC) modules.

Memory sticks with strictly selected memory modules (“ICs”) should therefore be able to achieve DDR6-16800 with up to 16,800 MT/s as OC modules.

The lander, built by Intuitive Machines, touched down on the lunar surface at around 6:24 p.m. ET, overcoming a late-stage glitch with its onboard laser instruments.

A robotic spacecraft made history Thursday becoming the first privately built craft to touch down on the lunar surface, as well as the first American vehicle to accomplish the feat in more than 50 years.

The lander, built by Intuitive Machines, touched down on the lunar surface at around 6:23 p.m. ET, overcoming a late-stage glitch with its onboard laser instruments. The probe is now the first American spacecraft on the moon since the Apollo 17 mission in 1972.

U.S. government admits that the American semiconductor industry needs additional funds.
    Quote

U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo emphasized the necessity for ongoing investments in the American semiconductor industry to regain global leadership and fulfill demand for artificial intelligence (AI) processors. She highlighted the significance of the U.S. government's effort to fund the chip industry amid global challenges during a virtual appearance at yesterday's Intel Foundry event, reports Bloomberg.

"I suspect there will have to be — whether you call it CHIPS 2 or something else — continued investment if we want to lead the world," said Raimondo.

Raimondo's remarks underscored the importance of the semiconductor sector, particularly in light of the increasing computational demands of AI technologies. She cited her discussions with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, who is seeking U.S. government support for his chip venture. According to Raimondo, the sheer volume of chips required for AI applications, as projected by industry leaders, is astonishing. Meanwhile, a surplus of AI processors will enable more companies to adopt artificial intelligence, which will be a competitive advantage for the U.S.

so upper management is is doing dumb shit like flying across the country for something that could have been an email, taking “work”  lunches and dinners, all while failing to plan development work or changing a bunch of shit requiring more work, and then blaming everyone else or “uncontrollable” factors.

Hopefully, that changes when Sony takes over, which is very likely at this point.

Biometric fingerprint security is widespread and widely trusted. If things continue as they are, it is thought that the fingerprint authentication market will be worth nearly $100 billion by 2032. However, organizations and people have become increasingly aware that attackers might want to steal their fingerprints, so some have started to be careful about keeping their fingerprints out of sight, and become sensitive to photos showing their hand details.

Without contact prints or finger detail photos, how can an attacker hope to get any fingerprint data to enhance MasterPrint and DeepMasterPrint dictionary attack results on user fingerprints? One answer is as follows: the PrintListener paper says that “finger-swiping friction sounds can be captured by attackers online with a high possibility.” The source of the finger-swiping sounds can be popular apps like Discord, Skype, WeChat, FaceTime, etc. Any chatty app where users carelessly perform swiping actions on the screen while the device mic is live. Hence the side-channel attack name – PrintListener.

The U.S. awarded GlobalFoundries $1.5 billion on Monday. Intel reportedly could soon get over $10 billion in funding.

GlobalFoundries will use the funds to expand and improve its existing fabrication plant in Malta, New York, as well as build a new fab on that Malta campus. It'll also improve a Vermont facility.

GlobalFoundries, which makes chips for others, aims to invest a total of $12 billion over 10 years, including public funding. New York state will chip in with $575 million in direct funding, plus $45 million in related aid.

EXCLUSIVE: Disney & Sony Ink Deal for Sony to Take Over Disney’s Physical Media Production, Disney Movie Club to Shut Down as a Result
    Quote

Disney and Sony have just inked a major deal for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to take over all of Disney’s physical media production going forward.

This means that Sony will handle and oversee the actual authoring and compression of discs, that they’ll work with the replicators and packaging vendors, and that they’ll oversee the titles as they go out to the distributors and on to retailers.

I first received word of this deal about two weeks ago, apparently within twenty-four hours of the ink drying, and I’ve now confirmed it with multiple independent sources within the industry—people that I trust and have known and worked with for many years.

This deal makes sense for Disney for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that Sony is far more efficient and cost effective at producing their discs, whereas Disney’s physical media operation has been subject to no small amount of internal/organizational turmoil recently.

Hiroki Totoki says there’s “room for improvement from a business perspective” at the Destiny…
    Quote

“I visited the Bungie studios and had meetings with [the] management,” he said, “and I saw that employees working at the studios were highly motivated, showing great creativity as well as an impressive knowledge of live services.

“However, I also felt that there was room for improvement from a business perspective with regard to areas such as the use of business expenses and assuming accountability for development timelines. I hope to continue the dialogue and come up with some good solutions.”
