That's totally the reason it sucks.
Every time we go to SD I get dragged to Sea World. On one hand, I'm glad they've stopped the Shamu shows, but on the other, the park is really lame. At least they have beer. I suppose the fact that I've been there nearly a dozen times doesn't help. I hope that SW goes into chapter 7 and the land can be reused for something else.

Seaworld sucks because they never give you straws with your 48 ounce Coke.

I guess when a person is sentenced to death in Japan, they are not told when they will be hanged - it could be tomorrow, a month from now, or whenever. So everyday you go to sleep in your cell thinking to yourself, "is this my last night on Earth?". That's fucking metal.

I don't know how true it is, but I've heard the reason Trump put up with Pruitt wasn't just that he could use the EPA to do damage, as many conservative shitstains could. It was specifically the personal ties Pruitt has in the energy sector that kept him safe until now.
Basically, when Trump got on the phone with his billionaire buddies they were lobbying for Pruitt.
Pruitt could have potentially done a lateral transfer to attorney general if sessions had resigned or was fired.

I get that it's ridiculously suspicious to do this when you're under investigation for colluding with the person you're meeting, but... Isn't it somewhat normal for heads of state to meet alone behind closed doors?
I don't know if Putin speaks English fluently. If he doesn't, it would definitely be a good idea to at least have translators in the room.

NYAG, and possibly other state AGs, should pursue crimes that are state level and not mirrored federally, just in case this ploy is successful.

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul said police have arrested a man who threatened to chop up his family with an ax.
“This man had threatened to kill me and chop up my family with an ax,” Paul said during an interview at a Rotary Club event in Kentucky.“It’s just horrendous that we’re having to deal with things like this,” Paul said, adding that over the last year, he was physically assaulted by his neighbor while doing lawn work in his front yard, and he was also “shot at” during a Congressional baseball practice last June.
“I’ve had a year where it’s becoming more and more aware that we have these real threats out there,” Paul said.
In the interview, Paul said he now has 247 security at his side.
“I can’t go anywhere without security. I can’t even go to church without being worried about someone being there," Paul said.
“The whole country needs to take a step back. Look, I never have had a cross word with Democrats. People need to not think our political differences have to end in violence,” Paul said.
He thanked U.S. Capitol Police in a tweet Monday.
Capitol Police declined to comment but told ABC News it is investigating.Last week, Paul filed a lawsuit against the neighbor who admitted to assaulting the senator in front of his house. In the civil complaint, Paul is seeking an unspecified amount of compensatory and punitive damages from Rene Boucher for “physical pain and mental suffering” resulting from Boucher’s tackle of Paul.
Paul sustained multiple rib fractures and dealt with recurring pneumonia following the incident.
In March, Boucher pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress resulting in personal injury, a felony under federal law.
Boucher was sentenced to 30-days in jail last month, but prosecutors, who sought a 21-month sentence, filed a motion to appeal late last week.
As part of his sentencing, Boucher must also serve a year of supervised release after the prison time, stay away from the Paul family and pay a $10,000 fine.

“because that would mean to me that their judicial philosophy did not include a respect for established decisions, established law,"
I’m not sure why this is seen as a reasonable POV. Whether a law is “established” or not should have no bearing on how the court handles issues of constitutionality. If the legislature, executive, or the the courts have it wrong...they have it wrong.
I think it's dubious to base the legality of abortion on privacy. I'm not saying that Roe v Wade should be overturned and abortion made illegal, I just think it was shaky ground to stand on.

If the thing it changes no longer exists, sure it would, lol.
Well, you can't just erase the three electoral votes that the district receives. Either you'll need another amendment to nullify the 23rd amendment, or you'll have 3 electors who are beholden to no state/district, and will vote how they so choose.

Since it'd be a state it'd just become obsolete i'd imagine, since the District will no longer exist.
I'm not sure saying an amendment is obsolete would stand up in court.

DC
They don't get screwed like Puerto Rico, but it's the second most populated potential state and statehood is very popular in the district. It's possible that there could be a legal challenge to DC statehood, but if Puerto Rico is successful I think they'd try to be right behind.
I really hope that Puerto Rico can become a state. I have no idea what the chances of it actually happening are.
The 23rd amendment guarantees the District 3 electoral votes. What happens to the 23rd amendment if you make the district a state?

One of the problems with picking Lee is that if he is approved by the Senate, it reduces the GOP majority to essentially nothing, at least temporarily. Yes, Utah is a solid red state, and there is essentially no chance of his vacant seat going blue, but it might put the GOP in a bind until a new Senator can be sworn in.

The Kavanaugh Confirmation Charade Thread

Two questions the Dems should ask during confirmation:
1. If you become a Justice, will you recuse yourself from any case that personally involves Donald trump?
2. Has the president talked to you about anything relating to the Russia investigation, pardons, nor anything else that would be considered improper to discuss between a potus and a scotus nominee?
