The problem with just dumping Trump is I don't think the party knows who they are once Trump is gone.

Their policies were already quite unpopular in 2016(which is part of the reason they chose the cult of personality to begin with). By the time 2024 rolls around it will have been nearly a decade since any answer to any policy question put to them was, "Whatever Trump most recently said about that particular topic".

The fact that the party has little in terms of future prospects outside of the "Trumpism without Trump" idea shows how rudderless they are right now. I am pretty pessimistic about a lot of stuff in politics, but I remain pretty optimistic about the fact that Smart Trump/Trump without the baggage will be a spectacular failure for them. I despise Trump as much as anyone, but believing you can just plug in a bland politician that parrots his meaningless word salad to take his place is to completely misunderstand the unique appeal he had. Trump is actually more popular than the party. His problem is that he has proven incapable of stirring up that support without causing an even greater political backlash.

Keep in mind, Fox was anti-Trump in 2016....until they weren't.

I will go on record as saying no. Even the chance of DeSantis taking over in the next 2 years is more about how the party and rightwing propaganda machine present him than the man himself.

The question that I don't think anyone has the answer to is if Trump's 4 years in office improved his ability to project his appeal to the base, or hindered it. All the scandals and baggage suggests the latter. The fact that he got 75 million votes in 2020 suggests the former.

Yeah I think I agree with most of this.

I just don't know how for how long grievance politics can be successful for the GOP at a national level, especially if they continue to flail against things that are popular.

DeSantis is way better at culture warring than any GOP star since Reagan, IMO.

I picked Walker specifically because I remember hearing similar comments about him before he faded away last time. Difficult for me to pick up on vibes because of my priors and them seeming like absolute twats to me. :p

If you had one night with Hunter Biden where you could choose the location and activities, what would you do?

Id probably hang out with him in Disney World Animal Kingdom and do a shit ton of blow then check out the safari. Afterwards we can party at downtown Disney and then I’ll wait to absorb his overflow.

Seems like a safe assumption that this is a Star Wars take on AMG's Marvel Crisis Protocol. I've only gotten that on the table a couple times despite having too many minis, but does that mean I won't get and paint this? Probably not.

The sculpts look good, which isn't super surprising given that few of the MCP sculpts have been duds.

Hopefully this doesn't mean that the flow of Legion content will be scaled back.

  4. I played an hour last night before going to sleep. It kicks you in the balls right away. :(

    Silly kinda question...

There's someone you encounter early on in the game and their character model looks... just okay? Curious if other people feel the same way. I don't wanna spoiler tag it even just to keep people fresh, but people will know who I mean.

Not BAD just standing next to Kratos I feel like there's an obvious gap in quality.

I make six figures and I WOULD GLADLY have FAR MORE of that income taken from me in taxes to go towards social programs to ensure a decent, proper social safety net for those less fortunate than myself as well as ensuring that their tax burden is reduced as well.

Yeah, that makes me snob, huh?

I finally tried this last night and love it.  So damn simple yet so damn good.

I only tried maybe 6 runs so far, and got to maybe Lvl 23 around 17 minutes survived.  At that point I wasnt really killing anything and just running around.

Only tried the starting Hero and first Stage so far.

Do the stages play drastically different?  Any reason to stay on 1 for awhile or should I be jumping around right away.

The different stages have different things to find that unlock features you'll need to progress. There's no great reason not to get those early to help focus on what the game's progression ends up being since you can always revisit stuff later.

And yet life today, and for the foreseeable future, is better for the average person than at any point in human history. There will always be bad things in the world, but from my POV, there is so much more good to celebrate and enjoy.

This is true at the same time that increased access to media and better communication tools make it much easier to be aware of the people for whom today might be better than yesterday but still not great. Telling a trans kid that things were worse before they were born is like telling me that there are starving kids in Africa. It's true but that's not making the lima beans go down any easier.

EDIT - I did not intend to be the caboose on three posts resounding to this :p

Last I saw, Ron had a 41% approval rating among self-identified Democrats in Florida.

I genuinely don't get DeSantis's appeal at all.

Trump is a boob, but I can appreciate how he's someone's mental vision of what a strong, successful business man is. DeSantis is just an unsalted rice cracker in a suit, I don't get it.

The problem is that the Democratic "bench" genuinely does appear to be relatively thin.

As a party, the Democrats appear to do a pretty piss-poor job of elevating "rising stars" to genuine positions of prominence.

Biden is 100% running again barring something dramatic happening to his health. I genuinely don't know why anyone would expect anything otherwise.

I don't know that the concept of a bench has ever really mattered, given that relatively speaking both Obama and Trump came out of nowhere.
