  1. I voted for Biden, but I also think he fucking sucks. So does Kamala Harris. One of them made their careers off of locking up black people for weed, and.... oh wait, so did the other one.

I kind of wish they could have some kind of town hall specifically targeted at discussing all the fucked up shit they've done over their careers that did nothing but help the rich, and why they think it was wrong. Instead they just kind of pay lip service and pretend they weren't the ones supporting the system. The Republicans (assuming they lose, which isn't for sure) probably would have won if it was anyone other than Trump running.

My MAGA aunt who lives in Lake Oswego is terrified. She thinks Trump will win and that BLM and Antifa will go nuts and everyone will be in danger. She wants to ship my grandpa to eastern Washington to live with my uncle cause she is so afraid of rioting.

No one is rioting in Lake Oswego.

I've been to quite a few protests. The only people that make the protests dangerous are the cops. I mean, don't go around downtown Portland wearing a maga hat after dark, but if you DO do that... you know what you're doing. Like, I don't condone violence, but if you wear a maga hat after dark in Portland, you're either being deliberately antagonistic or you're incredibly fucking stupid.

Edit: Also, I hope you've tried (and probably failed) to explain to your aunt that "antifa" isn't a thing. It's an idea, not a group of people. There is no CEO of Antifa Inc. there are no board members. There is no membership. It doesn't exist.

  3. I work on Tuesday, but I'm off by like 8, then I'm off Wed/Thursday

I'm curious about the situation in Portland. If Biden wins, I think the streets will flood with people. If Trump wins, I think the streets will flood with people (assuming we know who won by Tuesday night). It's just if Trump wins, people might get a bit more smashy.

After several weeks of the UK government saying that we will not enter a second lockdown and that our strategy of using a tiered, locally targeted lockdown system was working...there’s been a reporter leak that the UK will enter a second lockdown on Wednesday to last until December the 1st. Honestly, after this many u-turns by the conservative government you’d think Johnson, Gove and Hancock would have whiplash.

I'm expecting us to lock down at any day. El Paso is the first US city to lock down again.

The problem is there is no stimulus package coming (and I'm only assuming that if Republicans lose the election, they'll just take their ball and go home until February), and a lot of people I know already hit their limit on unemployment benefits. If we shut down again without a stimulus bill, we are well. and. truly. fucked. And the Republicans (if they lose) are probably going to actively try to destroy shit as much as possible before losing their majority.

  5. I personally use psilocybin as a great way to help with depression and/or sleep deprivation. Basically a brain restart button. When I'm having sleep troubles, I'll microdose. Not enough that I actively trip, but I get this body high that puts me right into a deep, dreamless sleep. For depression, I'll block out a day where I just trip balls, and after the trip will also subsequently have a deep, dreamless sleep. Then the next day I'll feel like a new person. It's like giving yourself a weekend in a few hours.

You can't do it all the time, as your tolerance level gets crazy high pretty fast, but they have helped me a lot in different situations.

Speaking of which, legalizing psilocybin is on the ballot in Oregon this year, which is pretty cool.

  6. Honestly, I think immigration is becoming an issue that shouldn't be decided by individual countries. We live in a global economy, whether we like it or not. How many people work for companies that have employees all over the globe? I just seems backwards. "You can only move here if you're rich, a doctor, or a refugee, or if you have immediate family here (in most countries that doesn't even work)"

Like, if we all, as the globe, decided to relax immigration standards, wouldn't that benefit everyone? Countries like in the EU that have extremely strict immigration standards because they have really high unemployment, if we all agreed to relax our immigration standards, wouldn't that mean your citizens are now more free to leave, reducing the burden on your economy? I know it's not that simple, but I don't understand why immigration standards are so high in basically any non-third-world country. Like, the USA's immigration standards are positively lax compared to basically anywhere in Europe.

  7. There's a bathroom pretty close to my room, but if one of my roommates is using it, I have to go all the way to the basement (I live on the third floor). I will admit there has been more than one time where I've just pissed out of the window. There is a large condo building across the street that has a full view of my window. Can you get charged with public indecency if you're in your house?

  8. Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) - ???/10

It's over the top and campy, and full of bad accents (HOW DOES CARY ELWES, WHO IS ENGLISH, HAVE A BAD ENGLISH ACCENT?!), but weirdly is probably the most faithful adaptation of the novel I've seen. That's not necessarily good or bad, the novel is kind of weird.

At any rate, I really don't know how to feel about it. It... exists. Gary Oldman makes a good villain, who also isn't really a villain?'

I don't know. Your life won't be better or worse for watching it. 2 hours of bad accents and Francis Ford Coppola trying to be like "aVaNt GaRdE hAvE YoU SeeN KubRiCk?" but it's not horrible. And, again, honestly the most faithful Dracula adaptation I've seen.

  9. I work in a restaurant. We're open, but only at limited capacity. I make probably half of what I made pre-covid, maybe even less. Luckily I saved money during quarantine, but I feel like the well is running dry, and also the restaurant hasn't paid rent in months.

The fact that Republicans are holding a new stimulus package hostage over the elections is disgusting. And, should they lose, I can only imagine lame duck Republicans just taking their balls and going home. "NO PASSING LAWS, FUCK YOU GUYS, I'M GOING HOME!"

We'll see how much home is left by February.
