Way too many in Japan. Mostly retro stuff, but I did grab Super Mario Bros Wonder, Detective Pikachu Returns, Pikmin 4, and NEO: The World Ends with You on Switch while I was there.
I'm looking forward to you posting what you brought back.

Sorry to keep spamming this thread further (I'll make a retro what you playing topic in the future), here is a bit more on the psp games.
Top left is White Knight Chronicles: Origins. This game did get an english release in pal regions but not in north america. I just started playing my copy and feels like a PSO style game.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Knight_Chronicles:_OriginsThe top right game is Tokyo mono hara shi: karasu no mori gakuen kitan. A much forgotten Atlus game that can kind of be looked at as persona game based around hanafuda cards. It's part dungeon crawler, part visual novel. I kind of think this one got ignored/forgotten because the VN portion of the game makes it look like the game is just an Otome game (VN produced for women/girls), yet it's more like a persona/etrian odyssey mixed game.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Mono_Hara_Shi:_Karasu_no_Mori_Gakuen_KitanThe bottom left game is GachiTora! Abarenbou Kyoushi in High School. It's a pretty fun action game from Spike. It plays a little like spike's other series Kenka Bancho but battles instead play out as a heated argument while you fight it out. The game does have some questionable otaku crap (defeated enemies end up nakid, male and female) but past that the game is really fun/goofy. A bit shame this didn't get localized (specially when stuff like akiba strip does). I had this game digitally from PSN but saw a new copy was going for cheap while I was picking up other psp games.
The bottom right game is Venus & Braves. A beautiful 2D game frrom namco that originally came out on the PS2 then later got a PSP port. It's a tactical rpg that is a sort of sequel to Seven: Cavalry Troop of Molmorth, which is the ps2 game in my picture, where you configure the placement of your characters before battles but then durring battles you rotate your rows of characters around which will affect what they do for the next round (ie front row will attack, mid and back rows will support or do long range attacks). As I previously mention I use to have this game for ps2. I feel like if either game, V&B or Seven, they would be well regarded gems on the ps2.

I always read your posts on the retro stuff but I really don't have much to contribute because most of the stuff you post I don't recognize. I enjoy looking at the amazing box art from the stuff you posts. So your posts are definitely interesting and viewed even if not many contribute to it. For example, Phaseknox.
Fair but sadly creates a cycle where I want to post more about said games to explain more but I see no response and just assume nobody cares.
I'll post some videos info soon on some of the games I got to show why I initially had an interest in them.
22 hours ago, Phaseknox said:That’s the stuff that I basically grew up with, but while I have fond memories of it I also get depressed when thinking about it as well because I lost my well paying job in the early 2000s and was out of work and needed money so I sold off most of my game consoles and games for relatively cheap which I still regret to this day. Seeing @chakoo’s retro game pics brings back my fond memories of them, but also remind me of having to sell them as well which is depressing since I miss having them.
Yeah that sucks to hear and I can totally understand. I remember when I had to sell off stuff due to limited funds or just needing to drum up money to help my parents out.
I will admit I've become too much of a hoarder since the 3ds/vita as there is so many games I had in the past that I want to go back and play but the price for them is just stupid. I know retro games are in limited/low supply but I really hate what the pandemic and comic book collectors did to the retro market. The prices for some games no longer make sense and even some newer games are going for more than some older games. =/

Do you play the games you collect? I see your posts on this stuff a lot.
if it’s retro, there is a far higher chance I’ll play them fairly soon after getting them. If it’s modern it tends to go on the backlog and takes me time to get around to them.I rarely play my PS5 and most of what I play on it is my ps4 backlog of Yakuza games, so I’ve only bought 1 ps5 game and it’s a yakuza game (the ps4 version was out of stock during a sale). I do put an ok amount of time into my switch as it’s easier to game on at night when I’ve got 15-30 mins. I’m currently playing Quake 2 & Neir but I will admit my switch backlog is getting out of control and there are a few games I might not play for a few years (but I mostly pick up games when on sale).
For my more recent pickups, the Neo Geo stuff will 100% get played sometime soon. The PC Engine stuff will get played as soon as I get my Analog Duo, due out this year. Bomberman 2 I technically already played 2 months ago (rom) on my Analog Super NT and just wanted an actual cart. Of the psp games, only two of them I’ve never played but 3 of the 4 will be played soonish and the other is just a sealed copy of a game I’ve already own digitally and played through (it was also very cheap to get). I’d say the main odd one out is the ps2 game Seven which I probably won’t play for some time but want to check out, mainly because it and Venus & Brave are related as V&B reused a lot of assets from Seven but is its own story. V&B I have played before on the ps2 long ago.So TL;DR, yes if retro because I normally don't buy/play most modern games.
Sorry for the long messy text, dealing with a newborn recently. I’d gladly talk more about some of the retro games I pick up if people had interest in it. I’ve been recently feeling like my write ups with my pickup photos is a waste of time.

My second box from japan showed up today!
If you had to take a guess on which game was the most expensive, who would have said world heroes 1? That one ended up 5,000 Yen more expensive than Jet 2. =/ Sadly I have a strong affinity for World Heroes series so i've wanted these for a while now (I already had WH2 AES and the entire series of 4 games on Neo CD). The soccer games I got because they were bundled in a single auction and just wanted to add to my Neo CD collection (it also wasn't very expensive).
I'm now going to go ban myself from yahoo auctions/buyee for another few years....

Just saw SwitchUp review said the entire game is on the cart and the only download is if you need audio other than Jap or English! Fingers crossed that is true
Thanks, if true this is back on the want pile!!

I'm waiting to find out some day soon that atari also bought New Wave Toys (they make 1/6th scale arcade cabinet replicas and works closely with atari).

It took a while but one of my two boxes from japan arrived. I'd say i went a bit neo geo heavy but my other box is all neo geo. Interesting extra bit is the ps2 game, seven, is related to one of the psp games, venus and braves. V&B is the follow up and originally was released on the ps2 but later got a psp port. I use to own the ps2 game in the past which is how I knew about the two games. There is also a bit of a forgotten Atlus dungeon rpg in the top right.
Next box has already passed through customs and I'll have probably early next week.

I generally enjoy going for a walk to pick up takeout in my neighborhood (I live in downtown Toronto) but man sometimes it's difficult when you have little kids on strict schedules. Last night I ordered food at 6, got it at 7, then didn't get to actually eat it till 10pm (I've got a 1 month old and a 2 year old). =/

Yup. Even after you factor in the markup/overhead on the apps you end up even or cheaper than going in when they do their 40% or 50% off deals.

All the teachers in my province just voted to authorize job action (95% of teachers voted in favour). All teachers in the province are in a single union, negotiating with the government. As a manager in IT, I am out of scope, and have been told I may be called in to supervise children. I am consulting an employment lawyer about this. I may have no legal recourse in terms of crossing a picket line (being out of scope), but I have no training of any kind to monitor/supervise children, other than having no criminal record. It is incredibly outside my job duties/description.

from what I've seen on twitter this is another physical release getting screwed over on the switch right alongside the Metal gear collection
Yep, fucking BS. Just go back to charging a $5 switch tax. I was hyped about buying this one but will probably pass unless another region gets a complete version on cart.

I’d go with wonder and Mario RPG, then just wait 3-6 months for the rest to be on sale.
I think the big thing for me is not a specific game but we’re getting close to Black Friday and End of Year sales. I’m running out of space to store my backlog.

Zen studio laid off 32 people (out of 120 something).
Seeing what is happening in the app/saas space, I’m wondering if games are just on a delayed shrinkage (due to release schedules) and will ramp back up on hiring at the start of the new year.

X is well and truly fucking dead soon with that move.
I think we’re at the point now that we might as well take bets on how it ends. Does he pull the plug or just dump it for cheap.

Thanks for the impressions. I wasn’t a fan of the Dimp years for sonic so this being better and knowing some of the team from mania helped out has me interested.
Also I don’t own a steam deck or any handheld windows system.
