I will make that a priority thanks! Maybe some links to popular Oculus physical mods would be good here too?

Not really anything at the moment, but the upgraded headstrap, battery pack, and VR cover face pad replacement is probably a must. You can probably get away with cheaper solutions. My Quest is all wired up nicley with velcro and cable covers for the battery pack and headphones.

This is helpful stuff. I admittedly ordered the Quest 2 on impulse without being aware of the current state of VR. So with this Virtual Desktop workaround, I can use the Quest 2 to play pretty much any PC VR game (assuming my PC and Wifi are good enough)?

Yes! Half Life Alyx without the cords is a blessing. My system played the game well at low settings, Ryzen 2600 with a RX 580. You will want to use the 5gz band of your wifi, my older ASUS AX router works great.

  3. Seeing that we have some new VR users jumping on board with the Quest 2 I figured I'd make a thread with some helpful tips. Please add your own as I've only been on this journey for a couple months.

Dont buy the link cable. Well, you can. But I'd recommend using the Quest the way it was made to be used, wirelessly. Purchasing the Virtual Desktop App from the Quest store will allow you to connect to your PC via WiFi. You will need to set up an Oculus developer account and use a program called SideQuest to get the proper update to Virtual Desktop to trick the PC that you have a headset connected. Here's a link to all the proper instructions

Not all games are Cross-Buy. This might not be as much of an issue with the Quest's 2 performance boost, but obviously most of our PC's are vastly more powerful which most of us want to take advantage of. Some games, mostly Oculus exclusives are Cross-Buy allowing you to download from both the Oculus PC store and Quest store with a single purchase. Sadly for most games you would have to purchase the Quest version and PC version separately. This has helped me make better purchasing decisions on what games I'd like on the go and more dedicated games I purchase from Steam.

Get a circle rug. I have to admit, I still dont have this yet but its defiantly something that would make my experience better. Having a fully wireless experience can lead you to stray off which is a great feeling until you run into some oh shit moments in game and you're in the corner of your place space and smack the TV. Having to step back into reality to position yourself, then jump back into the action does take away from the immersion.

I received updated shipping information Amazon says mine is shipping on Tuesday! I am upgrading from PSVR  so the FoV size isn't a problem and I never bothered to set up the Move controllers. I will be buying Rez (this is getting up there as one of my most purchased games), Until You Fall, Moss, Tetris Effect, Superhot, Echo VR and Virtual Desktop! I should be able to get some time with it next weekend (assuming Amazon isn't lying to me) and if my PC can handle it I'm going to throw some odd stuff at it (I might have a PC code for Bloodstained that I would like to try in VR!).

Dont hesitate on Blade and Sorcery. I've been having WAY to much fun with that game.

I’m not sure how being concerned about FOV on a friggen headset could make you a snob. That’s like calling someone a snob for wanting high refresh rate or screen resolution on a VR headset

Honestly its never been an issue for me. I haven't tried any high end headsets so maybe I dont even know what im missing, but i don't think that's keeping people from a great VR experience. Adding a higher resolution and framerate makes a big difference in VR, more so then a regular monitor, due to the screen door effect and motion sickness. So these are typically the most highlighted areas. I'll try to be a bit more techie next time I post specs.

  6. What other specs do you need :P

Hp Reverb G2 has a higher resolution 2160x2160 vs 1440x1600, lower hz 90 vs 120.

No lightboxes required for G2 for tracking, though the light houses do track a bit better.

G2 is a collaboration with HP, Microsoft and Valve so the design/build quality is similar to the Index.

With MS collaboration, this will probably be the official headset for Flight Simulator.

And the Index wins the controller department by quite a bit with the finger tracking on the controller.

I’m pretty sure with the quest 2 right now they are at best breaking even with its new tech and price point. Just only hook it up to pc and use side quest and free stuff and bam you are sticking it to the man.

I was thinking of doing something similar. Maybe disconnect it from from the internet, but not the network to still use Virtual Desktop.

Surprised at how shitty the Index looks.

120 to 144hz is what would really set these headsets apart, also the Index controllers are the best out right now.

That's a very impressive comparison. I kinda wish he threw an older headset in there as well. Still, it's obviously a huge upgrade from my Rift CV1.

    Here's the Rift S comparison.

I'm choosing to take the silence as a "no". :p

Can we get a special tag for VR at least :p

Nice, apparently VD is already streaming games wirelessly at 90fps.

The part about Virtual Desktop, only one guy is working on it, all the while Oculus cant even get it to beta.

I'm probably going to be waiting until the PSVR 2 to get into VR.

Hopefully they introduce room scale games, not just look around ones!

Zero interest given that they're going to force you to log in with a Facebook account in a couple of years.

Also apparently the battery is only good for two hours at a time.

You are forced if you haven't created an Oculus account already, even so, with the new headsets its a requirement. There are ways to attach an external battery, and in some cases it works out better for the balance of the headset on your head (not so front heavy). I get 5ish hours with my external battery, more than enough.
