Former Twitter staffers who worked on creator-focused products expressed skepticism over the rollout, with several calling it a PR stunt. One former Twitter executive who worked on creator partnerships and who asked to remain unnamed to avoid retaliation, said that, “any kind of content monetization we’ve done in the past was based on a revenue model. This just feels pulled out of thin air for a specific subset of creators that he wanted to placate.”

There's a conspiracy out there that the Maui fires were started via a space laser or something and were done by "the elites" to steal people's land. Anyway, I'm sure those people will react very normally to news of a hurricane named Hillary hitting California.

Jack Dorsey replied to Elon's post agreeing with the decision. It's honestly shocking Twitter worked as well as it did for as long as it did with him in charge. He has less Divorced Guy energy than Elon does but he's like 90% as dumb.

I don’t know the details of the French connection so called censorship, but streaming services being shitty is why I’m strongly considering creating my own personal cloud starting from physical media that I own.
Gene Hackman's character says something like "Never trust a n-----" at one point and they cut that out of the Max version.

He really has no incentive to do any debates when he's sitting with 50+% support in polls and a lot of the people in that group aren't going to be swayed by any policy or electability arguments at all and are supporting Trump on the basis that he won in 2020 and is owed another term.

Apparently in the last days leading up to the vote they were also trying to work an angle that if the measure fails then the sicko libs will pass an amendment to turn your kids trans, or something, so this is also another example of trans panic completely falling flat electorally.

Ohio Issue 1 results: Polls close in special election with major implications for abortion rights
WWW.CBSNEWS.COMVoters in Ohio went to the polls to decide whether to approve a measure known as Issue 1 that would raise the bar for constitutional amendments on the ballot. The measure would've raised the threshold to get a constitutional amendment passed from simple majority to 60%, but the point of trying to pass this now was to try and prevent an abortion ballot measure from passing in November. Republicans once again completely eating shit post-Dobbs.

Hey, so it turns out that sulfur pollution from ships has maybe been accidentally geoengineering the planet and cancelling out the greenhouse effect this whole time, and the massive increase in ocean temperatures this year may be due to said sulfur pollution now being banned...
Just a moment...

Thank God this finally happened, but it really should not have taken two and half years and a Special Counsel, and I'll forever be pissed at Chris Coons for saying that Democrats called zero witnesses during the second impeachment trial because they all had to get home in time for Valentine's Day.

I saw this last night. I would've completely excised everything with the Mattel executives. The best parts of the movie are how much Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are completely committing to the bit and how fully realized the design of Barbie World was. I don't think the movie needed Will Farrel doing his usual Will Farrel stuff

Renaming Facebook to Meta was dumb, but Zuck at least had sense enough to only rename the parent company and not the actual website.

It's really wild watching a guy who got famous by saying "Don't listen to pundits at all, just look at the data" succumb to the absolute worst case of pundit brain ever seen

Yeah I couldn't remember a lot of plot details when you asked me to follow up on that, I just remember a distinct feeling that they should've been able to do more with the basic premise.

Where would RFK be in the polls if he was doing everything identical to what he's going now except running in the GOP primary? I doubt he'd be able to hang with Trump, but I think he'd be able to pass DeSantis easy.

Twitter begins paying Andrew Tate, DC Draino for their contributions - The Washington Post
WWW.WASHINGTONPOST.COMThe first beneficiaries appear to be high profile influencers like Andrew Tate, DC Draino, Ian Miles Cheong, Benny Johnson, and Ashley St. Claire.QuoteThe former Twitter executive also cast doubt on Twitter’s revamped metrics, including impressions. “The numbers are totally and completely bogus,” she said. “It’s all completely made up. It really feels like they’re arbitrarily writing checks to people they like, which is not a sustainable creator strategy.”

They also might've rushed it to try and make back the money they spend on trying to render legs in the metaverse

Okay, apparently Threads has basically a permanent version of the "For You" tab. You can't make it show you only stuff from people you follow. Haaaaard pass.

If you pay for a full year at once it's $120. I'll eat that money if it comes to it. There's no question though that it's hard not to associate this decision with the general feeling that's pervasive right now that the whole internet is gradually getting shittier.

Definitely put me in the camp of not using threads if it's gonna use your existing Facebook login 'cause I ain't shitposting under my real, Google searchable name.

When I can actually get the site to load, there's a lot of people speculating that the post limit is just a complete lie and the site is just totally busted, which I think is true because if I keep refreshing I'll intermittently get posts to load but then get "rate limit exceeded" the next time.
OH, and apparently the contract for their Google Cloud servers expired yesterday, so that might explain it. LMAO

I haven't been able to stop thinking about the fact that the marriage website case was brought on behalf of a woman who had designed exactly zero marriage websites. These cases are entirely vibes-based. Working completely backwards starting from whatever SCOTUS outcome they're trying to get to.

Supposedly due to "extreme levels of data scraping", unverified accounts are now limited to reading 600 Tweets per day. People have been predicting the site's death since last fall and it's doggedly kept moving until now, but I dunno, it might actually be cooked this time. Seems like an absurd restriction to put on unless you're not sure if you can keep the lights on.

I'm not an expert in statecraft or anything, but I don't understand how you can let a PMC guy publicly fire your defense minister (if that's actually what the deal is?) and still claim that you're in charge of things.
