  1. Not sure about demonizing or not. While I definitely can't empathize a lot with Trump supporters beyond sending thoughts and prayers, I think those willing to brave a pandemic to protest their loss of jobs that mostly they want and nobody else does, and are willing to vote against compassionate society to obtain/keep them, should still get to keep them. I'm willing to even go so far as to say anyone who's a trump supporter should have social power enacted to favor them getting priority in having jobs like those over ones that require more compassion and social responsibility, as mean as that may sound to anyone being angered by my saying it.
  2. Point being, I think everyone can express at least enough compassion (though not empathy) to allow them priority in taking and keeping the jobs they want that nobody who likes things like education and culture want to do. And to be fair, I would say this also goes for Trump supporters/sympathizers who don't want jobs that are low quality of life because they think they're above them or whatever, but that might be a bit more difficult of a thing to see happen.
  3. Even if they're bigoted or whatever, they clearly also value working hard more than something like a UBI. They literally chose to will that reality into existence over a more social and compassionate economy. Bernie and Yang's policies would have favored not forcing anyone to work low quality of life jobs or die, but they still chose to die for Trump and hard work for whatever silly reason. So...if we're going to remain a capitalist system for at least a while longer, I say let 'em work, cruel as that may seem.
  4. Regardless of how supporting of hate these folks are or aren't, they will still technically live on the same soil as us for a long time and we all still live in a capitalist society for now. Until that's gone, they would need to contribute in some way. Hopefully they become de-radicalized but many will not, and they need to eat too. And many seem to strongly want to work jobs that most do not. You're saying it's oppressive to grant them priority in obtaining/keeping these low quality of life jobs they desire, ones that those leaning more towards academia-based politics don't want to do?
  5. You're saying everyone in blue collar labor is a bigot? Or are you talking about those who are likely to be proud to be blue collar above most things, would brave a pandemic and risk contracting and spreading covid to keep their jobs, etc?
  6. Of course not everyone who does blue collar work is a bigot. I don;t no many progressives who want to do that work tbh and would say life circumstances due to capitalism pushed them into it or whatever, but be that as it may, there are many who ARE willing to have and strongly desire these jobs. Who are you to say they shouldn't have them? And if so, what would you suggest be done with these folks? So you would say they should get to keep those jobs? Well, then we agree. Why the fuss?
  7. If you think their jobs should be taken because you're jealous of them having them, what would you suggest be done here? You want these people to die in the street or woods? Or you want them to be in jobs with higher social and political responsibility that many of them people seem uninterested in in the first place? How in your opinion does this issue get resolved?
  8. I'll say it. A lot of trump supporters are hard-working, salt of the earth fine folk with economic anxiety simply because they're afraid of losing their jobs. It was heartbreaking seeing so many mislead but well meaning blue collar people brave a pandemic just to protest keeping those jobs some months back. While I disagree with them on some stuff and am too wimpy and unqualified to do work such as mining, janitorial services, construction, waste management, pest control, carpentry, firefighting, truck-driving, delivery, service industry, factory work, electricians, AC repair, elevator inspection, etc myself.... if they're so flustered over losing such jobs in the current capitalist system that we live in, then I for one have compassion for their struggle and say they should get to keep them, and despite all of the anger directed at them I send thoughts and prayers and positivity for the rest of their days.
  9. Since moving into my mother's guestroom this year, there is no computer or streaming device so I only watch cable.
  10. Unfortunately it's not taught in schools quite well enough that honkeyism can be a state of mind and accumulation of conscious actions as much as geographic location.
  11. Maybe nobody I quoted ITT is as bad as a pedophile. Then again, who is? Apologies if it was a mischaracterization. And at risk of sounding a bit culturally insensitive to some protesters, maybe those are fair points. There's lots of talk going on rn in this country about lack of education which unfairly leads to hardships for workers, so maybe there's some truth to that, but I guess it's also true that nobody has an excuse to be willfully ignorant or avoid paying consequences for unjust behavior in the age of information and stuff. So putting innocent lives in danger for no reason, even w/ relatable motives like wanting respect jusr for working hard....I guess it makes sense that shouldn't be accepted by everyone. I realize that now, and apologize for any prejudices towards them and you. Still, regardless how much anyone disagrees with those sillywilly ideals and behaviors, almost anyone protesting to work in the time of coronavirus pr whenever still deserves thoughts and prayers if they want them, from anyone offering them, and I think they should be allowed their jobs as well once it's ok for them to start working again <3. An understandable point as well, depending on your perspective. It might be possible you/them/whoever can get to connect with like minds that also sympathize w/ the notion that being straight and whatever else, endowed or not,fat or fit, is inherently a measure of good character. I agree that you should get to shoot the breeze with and work with them whenever you want.
  12. Ugh, sorry if I'm coming off as stern, this topic gets me really worked up is all. To finish my point, yeah, forcing everyone to go to work, especially during a national pandemic is a bit messed up or whatever, but acting like it's not almost as unjust to make someone with the brass to get out there and get shit done, whether there's a reason to or not...to disallow them of relishing in the freedom to do that and always being respected for it...!? I'm sorry, but that's just unamerican, sir, and you better believe you'll be taken to task for such a backwards take. I for one hope these folks can find the jobs they seek. I get that not everyone has their parents pay for their college to show up to a few classes and get handed a degree in four years, and the amount of misinformation causing a lot of these rights to jobs protesters to make poor life decisions is tragic and unavoidable to some extent. Whether it's working construction, sewer treatment, plumbing, food industry, appliance installation, waste management, whatever...if these folks want to do labor that badly, they deserve those jobs. Who are you or anyone else to judge or critique them for that?
  13. Most of these folks are literally protesting for everyone to keep their jobs right now. While requests that everyone go to work might be a tad much, who are you to deny them work if they want it? If they want to have jobs before, after, or even during the pandemic, why shouldn't they be allowed to at least vent about it? Now maybe for whatever reason not everyone's qualified for every job out there, I get that, whatever, but critiquing them for having an unearned bossy mentality? I dunno, not sure if that's true about all of them or not. Maybe it's a bit classist and reductive towards them to assume bad faith idk, I will take responsibility for that insensitive misrepresentation if so. But to say they should be denied respect for wanting to work under any circumstance? That IS going too far. I've had the privilege of growing up around multiple friends and family with health conditions that made doing manual labor, not even as a career, but as a lifestyle and fun way to pass the time, extremely harmful to their physical health. One person had a condition where it felt like they were walking on knives after standing for a certain amount of time. But you know what? They didn't give up and learn another trade or get some sissy desk job. They busted their ass day after fucking day. Not because they had to, but because they wanted to. And there's honor in that. Always. What the fuck have you done? You're saying someone like that hasn't earned respect and dignity? That work ethic alone isn't reason enough to look up to someone? Not to out you or anything, but are you a fucking pedophile? Is your existence inherently a social problem that makes employment difficult and unethical (not that that's any excuse. It's a proven fact that it's much easier for pedophiles to live fulfilling lives then they or their sympathizers would suggest)? Why are you so against having a job and being a part of society?
  14. Well shucks, I guess it does make sense when you put it that way. Socializing from a distance is right there in the phrase. It still sounds a bit weird due to the context it's been used sometimes, but maybe that's just a local issue here.
  15. Y'know, ridicule aside, when all of this hopefully blows over we might have a social dilemma going on with all the salt-of-the-earth folks who felt an urge to rise up in these times. What society should do with them and to what extent they're responsible for their poor life choices and backwardness I might not be qualified to judge, but honestly they are in my thoughts and prayers, and as unethical as it may or may not sound I'm rooting for them if noone else to obtain jobs including the ones they're worried about losing
  16. I guess, but with the term social distancing there's an implication like cutting oneself off from all social relationships is encouraged as well, which sounds weirder to me. There might be a reason for it having that implication I suppose, but not completely sure.
  17. Is there a legit reason why everyone keeps saying social distancing instead of physical distancing when talking about the Covid pandemic?
  18. Yeah that happens a lot. Was confused because it seemed like you were saying Madonna and the girl in Cnut's anecdotes were code switching as you're describing which I don't know is true or not.
  19. And in the very early days there were surprisingly few of those. The jerk off threads started appearing in the early 2000's I think? Then after a few years it got to a point where thread titles like that were most of the first thread titles. There was also some internet famous memage like the the owned/pwned memes, Jesus Lol threads, Photoshop threads, radio pranks, and drama between some of the users (including game developers and IGN writers) on and offline. I wanna say the Jesus lol threads even inspired a Conan skit? Not to mention Linda Ellerbee from Nickelodeon was posting there for a while. Definitely some moments.
  20. Oh I didn't know that. Also pretty sure she only spoke with a british accent for like a year (assuming I'm not misremembering)? Oh, Madonna. Huh? And you're saying these powers that be want you to sound southern or speak in a blackcent? What do you mean?
  21. The guy I was talking about has been here for 17 years, so there ya go. Yeah, the only time I remember seeing an accent change anything like that is when Madonna did it years ago as a publicity stunt. Intentionally speaking in a fake accent until it becomes the one you use all the time seems pretty crazy to me.
  22. Wouldn't changing nationalities mean immigrating to another country and adapting to the culture? Also sometimes accents can change when moving somewhere where an accent or language is different. My coworker I've known since highschool over time developed more of a standardized american TV anchor-sounding accent than his aussie one. He said it just kinda happened and wasn't intentional. The example you mentioned sounds a bit more unique though.
  23. I member the vesti. Haven't posted there or even visited in years, but I feel like it had its moments for sure.
