I feel like almost every American agrees that there should be age/term limits for Congress, regardless of political affiliation. The problem is the only people who have the power to change that are people in Congress.

The only solution is to hold some kind of plebiscite. If we really got into a grassroots movement where the majority of the country agrees that an age limit and/or term limit is necessary, it could be done.

Congress would still probably fuck it up, though. The STOCK was supposed to curb insider trading by members of congress and that didn't do a damn thing because the penalty for violating it was like $200.

Even if we could sit a Congress that would vote for age limits, this Supreme Court would probably overturn it saying it’s an assault on free speech.

A year’s worth of records suggests the state’s book banning movement is narrow in scope.

But while their movement has grabbed headlines, it may not be widespread. Most of Florida’s 67 school districts didn’t log a single formal complaint about a book. That’s based on a Tampa Bay Times analysis, the most comprehensive review of book complaints across the state.

Of the roughly 1,100 complaints recorded in Florida since July 2022, more than 700 came from two counties — Escambia in the western Panhandle and Clay near Jacksonville. Together the two districts make up less than 3% of the state’s total public school enrollment.

About 600 of the complaints came from two people — a Clay County dad and an Escambia County high school teacher.

The data illustrates how a tiny minority of activists across the state can overwhelm school districts while shaping the national conversation over what books belong on school library shelves.

It would be perfectly reasonable for the Fed to hold rates as their current levels as it evaluates inflation data going forward, but outright suggesting a bias towards rate increases is something that I'm pretty sure very few analysts were expecting.

Optimal inflation is typically seen as between 2-3%. It’s currently at 3.18% and has declined every month since June 2022.

Jerome Powell has no idea what he’s doing.
