Libruls: Let's set up safe injection sites for heroin users AND ban cigarettes.
Conservacucks: Let's wage a war on heroin and have babies smoke cigarettes.
Libertarians: Let's set up safe injection sites and let people smoke if they want to. They can wreck their bodies if they so choose.
Also libertarians: have the heroin come in cool colors and flavors in hello kitty packaging

There are lots of examples of actual independent contractors that make sense to keep in place. One of the ones that immediately comes to mind are skilled trades like tile or masonry guys. They do jobs for lots of different GCs and it would be a mess to make them W2 employees of every GC they do a job for throughout the year. But as with everything, businesses have taken advantage of the legitimate use of independent contracting to create a class of what are obviously employees but given none of the benefits or protections of being an actual employee. You can fix the problem without creating a whole new set of issues.
One of the benefits of the pro act is that these types of independent contractors (an explanation I heard specifically uses masons as an example) would gain the ability to collectively bargain while not affecting their status as contractors.
Because, as I'm sure you can see, GCs can use this independent contractor status to abuse these types of workers.

I mean, nicotine is what makes smoking pleasurable, so it makes sense. Some smokers do enjoy the ritual or taste of it all, but for the most part it’s the nicotine rush that makes it enjoyable. And menthol specifically lessens the burn of smoking allowing deeper inhalations.
Limiting nicotine in tobacco is difficult and years off at best.

Flavored tobacco is more addicting.
From 7 years ago but it seems to have some good science backing it

Read what I edited in, I think it makes more sense to just outright ban tobacco.
Does the FDA have the legal authority to ban tobacco? It seems to be treated differently by law than other drugs

For flavors, I'd feel better about just banning nicotine, I hate using "but kids like the flavors" to backdoor in restrictions
When do you think people start smoking?

Menthol is the only flavor not banned

just think there's this feeling a lot of people have that to teach the evils of slavery is like admitting that WE did something wrong. We didn't do it, our ancestors did. Our ancestors were assholes. That doesn't have to make us assholes, too.
"Why should I have to pay reparations for something my ancestors did/didn't?"

The Lost Cause is one of the most pernicious lies that has ever been told in these country. It deserves to die, like the rotten Confederacy. The Confederacy was white supremacy. To deny it is to deny reality. I get that southerners want to pretend otherwise but it is the truth. You want heroes? Numerous southerners fought to preserve the Union. George Thomas, for example, was a far better man than Robert E. Lee ever was, and probably a better general.
There's also a lot of southerners who fought against the confederacy, something that we should buy into more. East Tennessee, West Virginia, etc. There's a fairly easy to craft narrative here around southerners but this doesn't give the high of white supremacy

Can't wait to hear how this is a bad thing

Similarly in idaho
Idaho Senate passes controversial education bill 27-8
WWW.KIVITV.COMEducation policy and curriculum taught in Idaho public schools have been a hot topic throughout the last few weeks of the Legislative session.QuoteHB 377 would prevent Idaho teachers and administrators from discussing any sort of belief system that claims racism or sexism are responsible for past actions in history with students. It would also prohibit any conversations claiming one group of people defined by their sex, ethnicity or race are better than or less than any other.

Look, if we're not gonna get a TRIPS waiver for vaccine IP then we should Marshall Plan vaccines, treatments, and PPE for the world. Get this shit taken care of by EOY or mid '22 at the absolute latest. It's the absolute least we can do and be able to say "we tried everything we could"
