It was very impressive. I knew they filmed it that way going in and yes, I knew a single 120+ minute take would be impossible. I was impressed with what they did. Very.
Absolutely! I found an article with a good 10 minutes video on how they broke down some scenes. Spoilers obviously for those that haven't seen it. https://www.insider.com/how-1917-was-filmed-like-one-continuous-shot-wwi-2020-1

There are more cuts than that I think, but it is still an amazing thing. The other cuts are so quick and subtle. I could be wrong by when it goes in close to the point blurring, then back out was used a couple times, and when the camera passes by an obstruction large enough to block the characters. Even if those are spots where they cut, it was only done a handful of times.
I would like to see some special features. Amazing. I did see one thing where they built everything. They weren’t different stages, it was from beginning to end, one HUGE practical set. That alone impresses me.
I agree, worth seeing in theaters, for sure. This felt like WWI’s “Saving Private Ryan”, but even more immersive.
I was paying meticulous attention once I realized what was going on (about 10 minutes in). I hadn't even seen a trailer prior so had no idea to expect it. It is continuous. Do I actually believe that they did the whole film in one continue take? No way, but they edited it in such a way that it seem that way. Yeah, the camera would go in close on a house or rampart or something where they would obviously cut. But it didn't come across that way in the movie.

Movie was fantastic. 2 long and glorious one shots. Riveting.

That was extremely satisfying. Now that this season is over, I need to find something else to justify the 1 year sub I jumped into. Oh look, those Clone Wars and Rebels shows people keep recommending...
Those will fill in lore regarding the
SpoilerDark saber
rebels especially. -

Maybe so but it sure looked like this
but from the viewpoint of the planets surface.
SpoilerThere were a couple different shots of destroyers falling, one or two were clearly what you are describing. I’m just saying that the one the Ewoks were looking at looked like the above.

Spoiler
“What about a Holdo maneuver?”
”that was a 1 in a million shot, won’t work”
Finale: Shot of a Final Order destroyer being taken down by the Holdo maneuver over Endor.

I don’t think anything she did made Ben turn good. It was Rey healing him and saying “I do want to take your hand...Ben’s hand.”

JJ can't commit to any heavy blows in this movie either. He reverses all the heavy hits two minutes after they're shown.
Chewbacca is dead. Wait no he's not. How powerful would that moment have been if he actually stayed dead? Rey's scream after she thinks she has killed him... I bought that. It hit me. C-3P0 says goodbye to his friends. But not really because R2 has a backup of his memory (even after they said specifically that he doesn't).
So much this.

On second watch the movie became worse for me.

My opinion of this movie is degrading by the day. Will watch again this weekend to solidify my thoughts.

For people who have seen it, I have one very specific question that needs to be answered. Based on that leaked poster from a while back, does C3PO shoot someone with the bow caster or not. I need to know if he ends this series with a positive k/d ratio. Nothing else is relevant.
SpoilerI don’t recall him shooting anybody. He kinda just carries it around for a couple of scenes.

SpoilerHonestly, nothing of significance happens to them, at least in the grand scheme of the driving plot of the movie. They are all ancillary to the force users and only serve to move that story along. Hux has an interesting thing or two, but gets well...Huxed. It is all about Rey and Kylo.

I’m seeing reports that there was a standing ovation after the screening last night. That is patently false. The only one of those was for John Williams before the showing when he came onstage. I’d say people were cheering enthusiastically afterwards and one guy yelled “yes thank you JJ!” after something that I can’t remember.
Talking with a number of people I didn’t know at the after party (around a dozen so not a huge sample) they mostly felt like me in that it was fun but had some glaring issues.
-
Didn’t feel like a series of fetch quests to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
-
Oof, my initial prediction of 70’s might be too high lol.

I did not come away with the impression that JJ tried to undo anything that Rian did but maybe I’m bad at character analysis. He builds upon all of the force powers and relationships that Rian introduced in TLJ.
yes Rose’s role was significantly reduced. They easily could have had her along with the big 3 and Chewie.

I plowed through the game and absolutely loved it! Combat was way better than the original. Just the right amount of difficulty. Performance was fine but I’m on PC. A spectacular sequel in every possible way. I liked the shard system because I could build Ori in a play style I wanted. Really dug the story too. Overall took me 10.5 hours to get around 80% complete.
