It's amazing how bad this game runs. Like I would be super disappointed if it ran this badly on my old 1080.

You said “what was nvidia thinking”? What was that in regards to?Them choosing to so heavily promote the game with the 3000 series launch.

I'm not implying it's their fault?

What a shit show. Seriously, what was Nvidia thinking.

Isn't she responsible for like half the content on this board?

Apparently it's not getting patched until Friday on PC.

The game just seems like a dumpster fire. I hope the day one patch is written by God or something.
-
I can't get consistent 60 fps in this game in 1080p with no ray tracing.
-
God I hope so. This is the worst optimization I've seen in a game so far.
-
Lowered DLSS to ultra performance (the lowest setting) and ray tracing to high and still getting just over 40 fps. I hope this is bad optimization and this isn't just how the 3080 is going to do in this generation.
-
So this plays pretty badly. I'm getting about 40 fps at 4k ultra with raytracing on ultra and DLSS on performance. I tried it with DLSS on quality and fps dropped below 20. Using a 3080 with 16gb ram and a R73800x.

The gameplay in Anthem is absolutely phenomenal imo. Despite *hating* the design decisions, I dumped many hundreds of hours into it purely because it just feels amazing to play.

You can increase the resolution and image quality though SideQuest settings! I did this with my Quest 1 and made everything run like poo!
I don't really understand exactly what changes with this. What all does the Quest 2 not already show at maximum resolution?

I’d avoid the battery strap simply because it’s a ton of money for a pretty small battery. Better to just buy a battery, imo, as you can get one that will fully charge the quest like 3 times for around 60$ and if you want a counterweight it’s easy enough to make one (I don’t think it helps much with the elite strap).

Okay, but as Keyser suggested I'm in a situation where I signed up for it back in 2006 but when it was still only accessible to people with .edu email address, and at this point don't want to strip it because I have connections I'd probably lose without Facebook, but also dislike Facebook as a company and so try to avoid feeding Facebook more data than necessary, and also just don't want problems with an Oculus account and problems with a Facebook account affecting the other account. I wouldn't want to get banned from Facebook because of something dumb with my Oculus activity, and it'd be super lame to have a possibility of a problem with my Facebook account locking me out of my Oculus hardware and paid software.
My posts weren't about you specifically. I don't know all the details about your exact situation.

Is it entirely possible for someone to have signed up for facebook when it was a cool thing and then it degenerated into shit over the years?
Then they could just strip the social side of the account down to nothing and it'd be indistinguishable from a normal Oculus account in terms of information Facebook has to sell.

If there is a multi platform VR game, and you have a highly capable gaming rig, would it be better to by the game on steam and use VD or oculus store?
I always buy on Steam unless it's something I think I'll want to play when I'm not at home. Like at a hotel or something.

It's kind of a weird phenomenon because if you really hate Facebook, it seems intuitive that you wouldn't own a Facebook account. And if you don't own a Facebook account already, then the FB/Oculus issue shouldn't affect you much, because you can set up a new (your only) Facebook account and keep it completely free of anything social without breaking the TOS and it's indistinguishable from just having an Oculus account in terms of extra data they have to sell or whatever.

If you're using Virtual Desktop with the Quest 2, take a second to check your options in SteamVR. The auto graphics setting in SteamVR opted to set my resolution to 4k per eye for some reason and it was totally fucking my performance. Worth checking.
-
Yeah, virtual desktop is a no-brainer imo. The only reason you might reasonably opt for the Link is if you have no wifi imo and even then there are work arounds. Also, the elite strap is kind of a must-have. I mean it's like 10 times better than the old strap and the stock strap on the Quest 2 is utter dogshit. May as well be a jock strap.

If any of you have Shadow of the Tomb Raider and a Quest, run it in Virtual Desktop in theater mode (just run it through steam while running VD) and try out the SBS 3d. It's pretty incredible imo.

Anybody have a good tutorial on setting up virtual desktop?
Go into your settings on your Oculus app on your phone and turn on developer mode. To do this, you click on the device then More Settings, then turn on developer mode. Then plug your Quest into your PC and download/run Sidequest. Once you're in, go to virtual desktop and install it to your Quest (this is just an add on to the virtual desktop you already paid for, assuming it's already installed on your Quest). That's it. Now when you run Virtual Desktop and link to your PC, you should see a tab for Games or SteamVR. There's also a Virtual Desktop Streamer app you need installed on your PC.

Did you get the headstrap or have you started modifying it yet? How's the strap comfort wise?
I'm using the elite strap. Almost all reviewers said it was a must have so I haven't even tried the stock strap. The elite strap is amazing. So much better than the Quest 1 imo.

Does Alyx run without the cable?
Perfectly. I'd honestly avoid Link in general. It might be slightly better performance, but it's really a nightmare imo. USB-C cables simply aren't designed to be plugged into something that's constantly moving and twisting and the tips wear out over time. Which is a big deal given how fucking expensive the cables are.
