I mean, why does it matter? That really was the main point of my initial post. You only quoted my first paragraph, which was intended as more of a joke (hence the :p emoticon).

The second paragraph is more what acually concerns me. These debates have been happening for over a half a year and haven’t gone anywhere. I also post on the Vestibule where it’s much more poplar to hate on TLJ and I just avoid discussing it because it obviously isn’t going anywhere. It seems like anytime a TLJ makes any sort of remark or a boycott, the fans go crazy. The thing is I actually expect more of the users who typically argue in favor of TLJ,l. Wade has even asked you guys many times to stop.

"To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture. Enjoy, sir, your insensibility of feeling and reflecting. It is the prerogative of animals. And no man will envy you these honors, in which a savage only can be your rival and a bear your master."

Shit like this makes me wish hell was real solely so Mitch McConnell has a place to go when he dies.

I’ve thought about this some more and decided that I want heaven to be real, but have an impenetrable border wall and jank ass immigration policy. Oh and it’s governed by Sharia law.

So what you’re saying is that you’re fine with letting them hate them, you just want to make sure they know they are in the minority and that their opinion doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. :p

I only want to let them know that they’re in the minority if they’re making demonstrably false claims to seed some other point about the movie, the direction of the franchise, etc. “Disney needs to do X because a lot of people hated The Last Jedi,” stuff? Yes, I will point out that most people did in fact really like the movie and that people who don’t like it are a loud minority because that claim starts with a false premise.

It’s not a “suck it, your opinion is the minority,” kind of thing. It’s not like I’m unfamiliar with the feeling. I think The Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels and that despite Return of the Jedi having probably the best individual moments in the whole franchise, it’s deeply flawed and is barely a good movie.

I liked Solo even with the part were it was suggested that Lando had sex with a that droid. Speaking of that droid I found it pretty hilarious that she was way over the top and a obvious parody of SJW's. The movie was fine but it wasn't advertised well and followed the dismal That Last Jedi. I doubt the Rian Johnson trilogy is ever going to happen. I'm pretty confident he'll never be allowed to fuck up Star Wars again.

I am shocked that you are incapable of identifying parody. Shocked I say! :p

But there have also been studies indicating that fat shaming makes people fatter and adversely affects weight loss efforts, so it’s not as simple as ‘body positivity is bad’.

Moreover, the conclusion doesn’t follow; surveying someone’s perception of their weight against their actual weight doesn’t test the affect of a social movement, it just tests their self-perception. The researchers are assuming that their perception is dependent upon the movement, which isn’t how research works.

No that can’t be right. My confirmation bias penis doesn’t get erect when i read thread titles for just no reason.

  6. 100% of the people who have done this to me have been over 40. Also I would say that when I’ve gotten far enough in th job application process to get a face to face interview, the number of companies that let me know I won’t be receiving an offer is < 10%.

Dunno if it’s the industry, the geography... whatever. But in my experience whenever I read articles like this about how younger workers behave, it’s almost always the more experienced, older people who I see doing those things.

I loved The Last Jedi but am also completely fine letting people dislike it. I guess I'm weird like that.

Despite enjoying discussions around why someone might or might not like it, I don't have a problem letting anyone like or dislike it.

I am constantly confused by the insistence that people at large did not like it despite plenty of evidence to the contrary. So lots of people like something that some people don't. Who cares? Again, I really dislike the prequels but people love them. Who cares?

But your opinion is super objective...

    Sure.

CInemascore isn't my opinion. You don't end up with an A there if a "significant chunk" of moviegoers dislike something. I think Episode II is a fucking abomination and the prequels are generally really bad, but... audiences fucking love them despite what enthusiasts on the internet say. I don't know why this just gets chronically ignored when talking about fan reaction to TLJ.
