The comedian told ‘CBS This Morning’ that he deserves credit for establishing certain comedy sketch conventions the Comedy Central series used.

    Quote

Chappelle told King he pushed back against the network for wanting to cut down the length of his “Black White Supremacist” sketch, which originally aired on the show’s first episode.

“[Network execs said] ‘Well, that’s 10 minutes long. It should be five minutes long.’ Why should it be five minutes long?” he asked. “These types of conventions … I fought very hard. When I watch Key & Peele, and I see they’re doing a format that I created, and at the end of the show it says ‘Created by Key & Peele‘ — that hurts my feelings.”

  2. A non trivial amount of taking care of yourself in the US healthcare system involves looking over your claim forms in detail, calling your insurance company, and being unwilling to get off the phone until stuff gets approved or processed. When I had surgery after breaking my leg, a couple of the providers who were only present when I was unconscious weren’t in network. When I pointed out that I couldn’t have confirmed the service providers were in network while anesthetized, nor would I have been in a position to do so even if I was conscious, lo and behold, the claim got processed. I’m SURE other people just pay, because why wouldn’t they.

These people are the least pleasant people on earth to haggle with, very close only to small Cambodian women tying to sell you bottled water outside Angkor Wat and that’s because they called me a filthy white boy when I decided to buy water from someone else.

Never RAID0. It's not ever worth it. There isn't a consumer grade storage controller on this Earth that I trust with RAID0 mostly because RAID0 should never be used as a storage device. I don't care what anyone says or anyone's experience. If you want to merge your drives into one large pool so you only see a single drive in Windows explorer or so Steam only sees just the one drive to install games on, just install Windows 11 and use storage spaces.

I will be getting Windows 11, I'd completely forgotten this was a thing.

I don’t think every movie needs to be a thinker. This criticism kind of feels like saying “Jaws didn’t have anything to say.” It’s certainly not wrong, but it feels beside the point.

It's not that Nope isn't a "thinker," it just doesn't have a single interesting thing going for it other than its aesthetic and the performances. Luckily those punch above their weight class, but...

    Spoiler

The problem with Nope isn't just that it has nothing to say despite that being a reasonable audience expectation after Get Out and Us, it's that Nope steps into every sinkhole in the yard.

It's clear that Yeun's character is carrying his trauma more than his demeanor would suggest, which is fine. And sure, I'll grant that the way things ended in the flashbacks suggests he believes that animals can still be befriended even if they're occasionally violent. But like... he's planning on feeding that horse to the alien, seems like a big fucking gamble to tell his family and audience to stay?

I'm fine with subtext, I don't need everything elaborated on, but I don't think there's anything actually there in this one. There's too much... nothing. The TMZ guy using his dying words to tell people to film something. The auteur director bored with commercialism who's also willing to die to shoot something that will immediately get destroyed. You mention Jaws, we get the conversation on the boat in Jaws. There's just nothing here.

It fails as a horror movie / thriller because Kaluuya's character hits a hole in one on every shot he takes throughout the entire movie. He figures out everything perfectly in real time. Don't make eye contact. Turns out it can't digest plastic. It's like if the kids from It Follows discovered the monster can't go up escalators or something, the alien in Nope is trivialized at every turn.

What are the drives and exactly how many do you have and hope to use? It says that if you use the M.2_1 the PCIE16(G5)_1 will only run at 8x. Depending on your video card that might not matter.

    I have 4, 2TB Samsung 980 Pros, and the GPU I'll be running is a 3080 FE.

Damn I heard the same thing from a buddy who saw it yesterday. So it's really not good, huh? I thought US was dreck but I also hoped it was an exception.

I feel like Us had something to say even if it ping ponged between not showing / saying enough and then showing / saying things as loudly or flagrantly as possible.

I don't think Nope has anything to say... like... at all. It is entirely carried by vibes. Literally everything to do with Stephen Yeun's character could be clipped without anything being lost and the movie would be more cohesive. It's like a Twilight Zone episode where the protagonist doesn't have to learn anything because they're immediately and always right, and also there's a B story that doesn't need to be there.

But I guess if you're gonna see it, do it in a theater since it looks rad.

  7. Question, as I'm planning my first PC build after running a Sullybox for many years.

If I have several identical NVME drives, will I be able to / should I RAID0 them in the BIOS into a fatty drive so I don't have to deal with multiple drives in Win11? My plan was to have one drive with the OS on the off chance I need to reinstall Windows, and RAID0 the others into the main storage drive.

If it matters, this is the mobo I'll have:

    ROG.ASUS.COM

ASUS ROG STRIX Z690-E GAMING WIFI Intel LGA 1700 ATX motherboard, DDR5, PCIe 5.0, 18+1 power stages, WiFi 6E, Intel® 2.5 Gb Ethernet, M.2 Combo-Sink , USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 USB Type-C®, SATA and Aura Sync

There are a couple places on the board I could install the drives, if that matters as well.

Upon reflection, these are very valid observations/criticisms of this season, especially regarding just how "unpredictable" the events became even within the show's own skewed internal logic/reality.  The only real justification that I can come up with for this approach was to reflect the fragmenting of Barry's own psychological condition - as his psyche became more unhinged, the reality within which the show operates also becomes detached from its own "rational" foundations (such as they are).

I'd also say that I absolutely did not like what was done to Sally's character at all - it just seemed unnecessarily cruel and mean-spirited.  Again, the only reasonable justification that comes to my mind was that the "assassination" of Sally's character was intended to further cement the notion that Barry is absolutely, unequivocally not a "good guy" in any way, shape, or form and that he destroys everything and everyone that he comes into contact with.

I know this is a weird comment to make about a show in which a lot of people die horribly and occasionally humorously, but I really didn't need to see Sally get almost choked out in this season. Aside from that, I agree that for a show that has let most of its characters have some moments of grace despite their actions, Sally is just a consistent punching bag and it's depressing.
