Have they addressed how everyone on medicare has to still buy gap insurance and what they are going to do about that? People realize that medicare doesn't pay for everything right?

    Sanders bill closes that gap.

Interesting side note, the disability community is actually pretty annoyed with the Sanders version of Medicare for All since it completely ignores what to do with Long Term Care Services. Medicare for All would eliminate the need for Medicaid which is where every State houses those programs (Medicaid Waivers) and there's a lot of scary uncertainty of what a Medicare Long Term Care System would look like, especially for those in States that offer 24/7 home care and have high earned income limits that let us work (New York and California). Then you've got States like to Florida that barely do anything. That's a scary middle of the road to meet in.

Why do people keep acting like Bernie Sanders just popped up out of nowhere? He's been in the Senate since the 90's... and he y'know, lost. To the worst Presidential candidate in history apparently. THAT is the definition of success?

I didn't say pop up out of nowhere, though is name recognition was very low, I'm saying wouldn't have been taken seriously as a viable candidate in the primaries. He's now second behind Biden in 2020 polling. Democrats need to find a candidate who will motivate people to vote, if they go with another John Kerry or Hillary Clinton, they'll lose. Policy ideas, experience, and fear of the other candidate doesn't work with voters, it should but then we got Bush for 2 terms, a community organizer freshman Senator for 2 terms, and now Trump. All Republicans need to say is abortion to get their voters out, Democrats need more. If the Democratic Nominee can't inspire people that they'll try to fix the country, beyond the damage Trump causes, they'll stay with Trump or won't show up.

  3. 3 of the 4 most successful politicians in the last decade were Obama, Sanders, and Trump. They all have one thing in common: a year or two before they entered their campaigns NOBODY in DC politics thought they had a chance and laughed at anyone who said they did. There is a universal anger in this country on left and right because the relief valve of politics, the moderates, can't function as actual moderates without losing the only reason they got there: the money. Lieberman knew he was fucked in Connecticut without insurance company money backing him. When moderates can't function the electorate will only go more extreme in search for someone to fix it: for the left that was Obama then Sanders, for the right it was Trump.

Obama's failure to go after money in politics is what led to Trump.

I've been seeing a fair amount of pushback on this (or more specifically on Seattle's complete ban on straws) on my Facebook feed from people who say that it's a misguided policy; trying to do something good for the environment at the cost of harming handicapped people that rely on the flexibility of plastic straws and are unable to use other types of straws due to them being a hazard.

It seems like there should be some middle ground.

Yup, a lot of cripples are pissed about this.

  5. Cripple Agenda:

Removal all State and Federal asset and income requirements from disability service programs. Ban wait lists.

    Restore Democracy Agenda:

Congressional Districts are drawn by the Judiciary Branch at the Federal level. Districts must attempt to conform to existing political boundaries (city or county lines).

Money is not speech, all campaigns are publicly funded.

All elections are regulated by an empowered FEC ran by the Judiciary Branch.

All primary elections must be open.

    Same day voter registration.

    Ban elected Judges and Sheriffs.

President can call snap elections in the House. If snap election results in a 33% change over, Senate is dissolved.

It seems completely unnecessary and would create an entire new command structure. We have the navy and air force which should be able to cover us from space too.

This isn't a new command, it's a new branch to provide forces to the Combatant Commanders. A branch that only one Combatant Command would have any use for, US Strategic Command since space it's area. Creating an entire branch for one Combatant Command is very stupid, every branch contributes forces to every Combatant Command, wtf are Space Force people going to do at Africa Command?

In Santa Monica the sales tax is 10.25%. In LA I think it's 9.5%. So at the boundary it literally depends on which side of the street you're on. In 2016 we got to vote on a county-wide tax measure where the sales tax rate went up in the City of Los Angeles but not in Santa Monica because in Santa Monica we were already at some kind of cap for what sales taxes can be. :silly:

People don't realize just how much variability there is not just in the rate but what it applies to as you move around from place to place, not to mention if there's any special excise taxes or fixed-rate "half a cent per transaction" or whatever taxes that you need to account for.

My sister has a small online business in California, configuring Square Space to collect the right amount was nightmare since zip code doesn't equal county.
