I enjoyed this one well enough. As far as trilogy cappers go this one is more in the vein of Return of the Jedi. It does make some weird choices in the middle while I appreciate but overall the conclusion felt intentionally safe.

The first trailer was definitely selling this as a movie where one of the main crew will die so I went in expecting a tragic ending and there is none of that. But maybe that's okay? Audiences have been in love with these characters for 9 years now and the world sucks enough as it is, so I can't get too mad at everyone surviving by the end. But it did keep the ending from seeming so... I dunno, final? I know several of the cast said this is their final Marvel movie but it won't be too hard to bring back at least some of these characters, even if just to have a small part in an Avengers movie. Was hoping for more definitive of a conclusion but I guess this is as good as you'll get from Marvel.

    Me and my friends joked...

    Spoiler

...just in case that whole DC thing doesn't work, Gunn still has all his MCU toys alive and well to play with later.

  2. This is on Paramount now.

Had a great time! I really appreciate how this series is basically a perpetual motion machine at this point. I did think that it was kinda dumb how

all the core people, including Gail, were so improbably alive at the end. But then Mindy calls that out as the trope-defying twist,

then I had to say "well, movie, ya got me there".

    Spoiler

Not just improbably alive, but Mindy totally no-sold her gut wound. She was pretty damn limber when meeting up with her should-be-dead bro and the rest.

  3. As the resident Islanders fan, I'll say I'm not totally discouraged after last night. I'm used to the PP being ass and this team playing dead for the 1st 55 minutes of a game. Barzy was noticeably rusty and our PK was uncharacteristically bad. I'm predicting a long, home-team series which means we just need to steal one.

I'm just happy we finally got Osbert. He plays such an enormous role in the books, and is essentially a new Uhtred. Wish we would have been able to see him fight, but I am satisfied with what we got.

    For the ending...

They rode a fine line of taking the books, which are fiction weaved with fact, and merging that with actual fact and history and a real life Uhtred who may or may not have existed as he did in the books. The key with the books is Uhtred can't die. The books start with Uhtred as an old man retelling his stories.

But I loved that they showed his call to Valhalla. If they had shown Ragnar, I might have ugly cried.

    Spoiler

I guess Ragnar really didn't make it to Valhalla.

  5. LA Knight has legitimately been one of the most over guys over the past few months but he's not one of Vince's ideas. He had the uncanny ability to survive a Bray Wyatt feud. Knight got over on his own, like Zack Ryder, and will probably suffer the same fate as long as Vince is around. He's been subtly buried over the past month.

  6. Last night should tell you all you needed to know about who's in charge. Show literally starts BagHHHdad Bob letting the audience know that everything is going to be just fine and no one is going anywhere.

    First actual segment:

Cody wants a rematch. Nope! Cody wants a tag match. Only if he can find a partner and that person would have to forfeit any title opportunity as long as Roman's champion. Enter Brock. His opportunities have already been forfeited (I honestly don't remember this but I'm like "okay"). The GREATEST TAG MATCH IN THE HISTORY OF RAW is gonna be the main event. 2+ hours of hyping and it's 10:40. Everyone finally makes their entrances and it's 10:50. Brock turns on Cody. HAHAHAHAHA. Got all the suckers to tune in.

What about the shit sprinkled in between?

An obviously demoralized Elias got squashed by Omos again.

Liv/Raquel vs Damage Ctrl had a #1 contenders tag match when that actually happened during Night 2 and Liv and Raquel lost.

Seth went out to hear his theme sung by the crowd...and that's it.

    Bobby squashed Ali again

    Good stuff:

    KO/Sami vs Street Profits

    Theory vs Mysterio

Conflicted Priest fully turning on Bad Bunny

Just wait until Friday when the old Michael Cole returns and you'll know Vince in his ear again.
