I thought this was known already but oil.

It was known that the al-Qaeda operatives received "some" assistance from Saudi state officials, but it was assumed that it was limited a few "rogue" elements.  What this new information presents is that the web of official Saudi state actor involvement was far broader than a few really bad apples.

Honestly since the main writer/director/co founder left right before release I wouldn’t be surprised if he saw the writing on the wall at MS and bounced. Maybe got enough money from the original sale to start a new company and hire back his staff after MS let’s them go!

The situation involving Tameem Antoniades's departure from Ninja Theory is quite odd.  According to a Microsoft statement to Polygon, he was only involved in the "early stages" of Hellblade II's development and that he departed from Ninja Theory some time ago, but no one noticed for a couple of years that he wasn't seen in any developer videos whereas he was featured pretty prominently in them for previous releases.

Two decades of U.S. policy appear to be rooted in a mistaken understanding of what happened that day.

    Quote

For more than two decades, through two wars and domestic upheaval, the idea that al-Qaeda acted alone on 9/11 has been the basis of U.S. policy. A blue-ribbon commission concluded that Osama bin Laden had pioneered a new kind of terrorist group—combining superior technological know-how, extensive resources, and a worldwide network so well coordinated that it could carry out operations of unprecedented magnitude. This vanguard of jihad, it seemed, was the first nonstate actor that rivaled nation-states in the damage it could wreak.

That assessment now appears wrong. And if our understanding of what transpired on 9/11 turns out to have been flawed, then the costly policies that the United States has pursued for the past quarter century have been rooted in a false premise.

The global War on Terror was based on a mistake.

A new filing in a lawsuit brought by the families of 9/11 victims against the government of Saudi Arabia alleges that al-Qaeda had significant, indeed decisive, state support for its attacks. Officials of the Saudi government, the plaintiffs’ attorneys contend, formed and operated a network inside the United States that provided crucial assistance to the first cohort of 9/11 hijackers to enter the country.

My family in South Florida is in the final stages of getting a new roof which will be in compliance with the current Miami-Dade Country code standards (total cost: $42,500) and replacing our windows/doors also with hurricane-resistant versions that are also compliant with the Miami-Dade Country code standards (total cost: $30,500).

We expect this will allow us to get a pretty significant discount on our house insurance to the point where things will "break even" in about five years.

  5. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was only "disappointing" because it was clearly only the first portion of a multi-part story, which was only confirmed later on when it was revealed that Square-Enix demanded that Eidos Montreal split the game into two parts, the second of which we will never get to experience.  Otherwise, it was a fine follow-up to Human Revolution.

This is the game I've been looking forward to more than anything in the past... five years? I've read about it. I've googled it. I'm a prime target for any marketing campaign yet I haven't seen any marketing for this game. Makes me kind of worried.

The relative lack of marketing hasn't gone unnoticed.  As far as I can tell, the marketing campaign only really began in earnest last week.

Karim Khan applies for warrants relating to alleged crimes committed during 7 October attack and the ensuing war in Gaza

    Quote

The chief prosecutor of the international criminal court has said he is seeking arrest warrants for senior Hamas and Israeli officials for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his defence minister, Yoav Gallant.

Karim Khan said his office has applied to the world court’s pre-trial chamber for arrest warrants for the military and political leaders on both sides for crimes committed during Hamas’s 7 October attack and the ensuing war in Gaza.

He named Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas chief in the Gaza Strip, and Mohammed Deif, the commander of its military wing, considered to be the masterminds of the 7 October assault, as well as Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the group’s political bureau, who is based in Qatar, as wanted for crimes of extermination, murder, hostage taking, rape, sexual assault and torture.

“The world was shocked on 7 October when people were ripped from their homes, from their bedrooms in different kibbutzim … people have suffered enormously,” Khan told CNN on Monday. “We have a variety of evidence to support the applications we’ve submitted to the judges.”

Netanyahu and Gallant are accused of extermination, causing starvation as a method of war, the denial of humanitarian relief supplies and deliberately targeting civilians.

“These acts demand accountability,” Khan’s office said in a statement.

Many around the world are closely watching the developments in Iran, wondering if there will be significant changes to Iran's policies in the region if President Ebrahim Raisi were to be harmed.

The short answer is not much.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's leader, expressed hope that the president and accompanying officials will return safely to the nation. He requested prayers for them and assured the Iranian people not to worry, as there will be no issues in running the country.

In the eyes of most Iranians, it is the supreme leader and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) who make major political and foreign policy decisions.

Raisi is one of the most conservative presidents Iran has ever had and is very close to the supreme leader. He is also one of the serious contenders to succeed as Iran's supreme leader.

However, instability could certainly affect the economy. Following the announcement of the news, the Iranian Rial plummeted against the US Dollar.

Fico remains in intensive care but has ‘emerged from immediate threat to his life’, Robert Kaliňák tells reporters

    Quote

Slovakia’s prime minister, Robert Fico, is out of immediate danger but remains in intensive care four days after he was shot by a gunman, the country’s deputy prime minister has said.

“He has emerged from the immediate threat to his life, but his condition remains serious and he requires intensive care,” Robert Kaliňák, Fico’s closest political ally, told reporters.

“We can consider his condition stable with a positive prognosis,” Kaliňák said outside the hospital in the central city of Banská Bystrica, where Fico is being treated. He added: “We all feel a bit more relaxed now.”

Kaliňák said Fico would stay in the Banska Bystrica hospital for the time being, adding that his condition was still too serious to allow him to be transferred to a hospital in the capital, Bratislava.

Oleksandr Usyk beats Tyson Fury on points in Saudi Arabia to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

    Quote

Tyson Fury suffered a split-decision points defeat on a dramatic night in Saudi Arabia as Oleksandr Usyk became boxing's first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion.

On a grand stage and on a legacy-defining night, Briton Fury began well but was given a standing count and saved by the bell after an Usyk onslaught in the ninth round.

In a tense wait for the scorecards to be read out, Fury appeared convinced of victory before a stony-faced Usyk broke down in tears when he was confirmed as the winner.

The scorecards read 115-112 and 114-113 for the Ukrainian, with a third judge scoring it 114-113 to Fury.

It meant Fury, 35, lost for the first time in a 16-year professional career. He will get an immediate opportunity for revenge with a rematch planned for later this year.

"I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority," a defiant Fury said in the ring.

"His country is at war, so people are siding with the country at war. Make no mistake, I won that fight in my opinion."

He added: "It was one of the daftest decisions in boxing. I'll be back."

Usyk takes the WBC belt from Fury, to add to his WBA, WBO and IBF collection.

The 37-year-old remains unbeaten and is the first boxer in almost 25 years to stand tall as the sport's sole heavyweight world champion.

"Thank you so much to my team. It's a big opportunity for my family, for me, for my country. It's a great time, it's a great day," Usyk said.

"I am ready for a rematch."

Paging @Commissar SFLUFAN, how concerning is this?

Side note, I did get this email warning myself (I'm signed up to the emails due to renewing a passport at the US embassy in Toronto). It's not often these are sent out unless something major is going on or there is an expected protest and they're warning people to stay away from the embassy.

I'd say that it should be highly concerning for a global alert to be sent like this.

This means that the intel services have detected a higher level of "chatter" which prompted them to this action.
