  1. Care to elaborate? Or did you just feel like venting?

Fact is that all the "big names" there, at least up until recently, were handwaving away or at least massively downplaying the seriousness of the threat of a R*ssian offensive, saying that they might try but would inevitably just smash their foreheads in, trying to break through Ukraine's well-fortified positions. The supposed danger from Belarus in particular was basically mocked, with some going as far as alleging that if any attack DID come from there it'd be one meant to intentionally get rid of troops (e.g. Wagner's prisoners in order to neutralize Prigozhin as a future threat to Putin's power). Then, all of the sudden, a week ago they started doing a 180° and, in some cases, becoming almost hysterical. There really isn't another word for the contrast between the previous eye-rolling and subsequent posts like, quote:

    Quote

Ukrainian military estimates #Russia has prepared 1,800 tanks, 3,950 armored vehicles, 2,700 artillery systems, 810 multiple-rocket-launch systems, 400 fighter jets, and 300 helicopters for the impending blitzkrieg 2.0.

Especially if you know just how retarded those claims and similar ones like it ("500,000 fresh troops soon-to-be in theater about to launch human wave attacks across the entire front!") are.

  2. I'm not really sure what to make of all the fear-mongering among a certain subset of the diehard Ukie stans on Twitter. They're all like "Waaaaah, the R*ssian offensive is gonna steamroll the Ukrainians, we gotta do something NOW!" after previously downplaying it for the longest time. I guess they might be pushing for faster deliveries that way but that still doesn't explain the timing. Meanwhile, the not-quite-so-dishonest ones among R*ssian milbloggers keep doomposting and I find it hard to believe that all of the sudden they figured out how to pull off sophisticated psyops and are in truth merely feigning weakness à la Sun Tzu.

I suppose we'll find out either way in a few weeks at most. Still ... weird.

Safe to assume this is China testing NORAD's capabilities and response times with different types of balloons/objects?

Eh. It's probably at least in part a "Fuck you!" in response to the U.S.'s announcement that they're gonna open new(?) military bases in the Philippines which naturally angered the eternally insecure [Absolutely Not Acceptable - Commissar SFLUFAN], especially since they haughtily declared that the former's waters are rightfully theirs, what with their juvenile seven-dash line or whatever retarded name they gave it. Not like it's the first time they threw a tantrum in this manner after getting "disrespected" (cf. the idiotic missile barrage over Taiwan post-Pelosi visit).

Demut is here for less than a day and already is an expert on what goes on what "subboard"

I mean ... going by the description, is that what fits the Current Events board equivalent? This feels like a better fit for the off-topic (The Shower, was it?) or even spam one.

  5. Yo GB, cute lil' profile pic edit. Got any new bands to recommend? I think you were the one to introduce me to Cloudkicker back in the day. I dunno if I listened to Igorrr back then yet (and if I did, whether or not I posted about it on D1P) but he's released consistently good stuff these past years:

Boy, we might've really stepped in it now, huh?

Nah, at least according to UFO/UAP folklore this isn't the first time this has happened. Except nowadays the U.S. is doing this weird disclosure-but-not-really-but-maybe-a-little-bit-psych-just-kidding instead of being all hush-hush about it. I once again recommend UFOs and Government: A Historical Inquiry to anyone interested in a sober, academic treatise on the topic (relying almost exclusively on un- and declassified government documents from around the globe). Something's plainly fucky about the whole phenomenon but it's harder to tell what exactly.

What house did you go with?

To my knowledge Empress hasn't released it yet so the answer for now is "none". However, if I were to decide based on the images of the common rooms that I've seen then probably either Slytherin or perhaps Ravenclaw. I'll probably take some dumb online quiz and let that decide, honestly. Or does the game itself feature that in the form of some questions the Sorting Hat asks you or something similar? That'd be kinda cool.

  8. I guess it was only a matter of time until someone developed a competitor game to Mahjong S*ul and ate their lunch. Riichi City might just be that game. It features the same kind of cutesy animoo gril* line-up and insufferable g*cha mechanics (although, hey, at least it's free, right?) but the latter are a smidge less greedy for now and the client itself runs more smoothly, looks better and, so far anyway, features events more frequently. The whole "daily quests" thing is also more interesting and varied and on top of that provides you with more generous rewards. Customization is largely the same although there is as of yet no option to change one's hand's appearance for instance. On the other hand (huehue), bonding with characters takes both less time and fewer resources than in MS*ul.

If I had to come up with an actual downside peculiar to Riichi City, it would be the currently limited player pool. This is far less notable in the lower ranks but as you gain access to the higher-ranked tables the number of peers grows smaller and subsequently it takes longer to find players for a round. Tonight, for example, there were a whopping 8 players in the queue for the Sun rooms or whatever they're called. But this issue should resolve itself as more people download the game and climb the ranks. In the meantime one can either continue playing in the lower rooms regardless (although that risks one's rank thanks to the disproportionately higher punishment for losing and lower reward for winning), pick another mode like Tournaments or join a private, unranked lobby.

Overall, I'd recommend the game to anyone who is looking for an accessible riichi mahjong client and is willing to put up with the saccharine aesthetic.

*Animoo fuckbois are available, too, but right now the selection there is much more limited than in MS*ul.
