My family in South Florida is in the final stages of getting a new roof which will be in compliance with the current Miami-Dade Country code standards (total cost: $42,500) and replacing our windows/doors also with hurricane-resistant versions that are also compliant with the Miami-Dade Country code standards (total cost: $30,500).

We expect this will allow us to get a pretty significant discount on our house insurance to the point where things will "break even" in about five years.

We took the opposite track. Sold, made a profit, moved to a city.

The decreased capabilities did not appear to endanger Arbaugh, and he could still use the implant to play a game of chess on a computer using his thoughts, according to the Wall Street Journal, which first broke the news of the issue with the chip. The possibility of removing the implant was considered after the detachment came to light, the Journal reported.

That would absolutely suck to have it removed after having that functionality.

Well they haven't figured out how to make the BMW 5 series medically necessary and require a prescription to get Medicaid tk pay for it yet.

Getting insurance to cover accessible vehicles would be the dream. New basic wheelchair accessible vehicles are $100k now easy. Wheelchair controls for a car are another $100k I've heard. What drives those costs through the roof is the VA.

Your wheelchair was seventy thousand dollars?

Yeap, I don't know the exact number but in that ball park. Tilt, recline, powered feet, seat elevator, onmi controller, micro joystick, custom arm support, Roho back and seat cushion, Stealth headrest, EZLock, and a cup holder. Even comes with a cell phone charger, mount, and a joystick to bluetooth mouse module I used to type this message.

Permobil F5 Corpus motorized wheelchair outfitted with an elevator lift motor, two batteries, headlights, and a joystick. Brand-new, it retails for almost $35,000.

Those are rookie numbers, my F3 was twice that.

Correction to the article, these companies, DMEs, are vendors, not the manufacturer. Ideally I think it be better if DMEs just died and Permobil etc take over that responsibility. I've gotten more help from my Permobil rep directly than my DME. DMEs are the used car salesmen of the medical world, I've had some many shady experiences with them over the years, big, small, doesn't matter.

The Israeli officials said they believe that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be included. It is not clear who might be charged from Hamas. The prosecutors’ office declined to comment.

The Israeli and foreign officials also believe the court is weighing arrest warrants for leaders from Hamas.

I look forward to everyone being mad if the ICC indicts both Israeli and Hamas officials.

If Balaji Srinivasan is any guide, then the Silicon Valley plutocrats are definitely not okay.

    Quote

In 2013, a New York Times story headlined “Silicon Valley Roused by Secession Call” described a speech in which he “told a group of young entrepreneurs that the United States had become ‘the Microsoft of nations’: outdated and obsolescent.”

    Quote

“What I’m really calling for is something like tech Zionism,” he said, after comparing his movement to those started by the biblical Abraham, Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith (founder of Mormonism), Theodor Herzl (“spiritual father” of the state of Israel), and Lee Kuan Yew (former authoritarian ruler of Singapore). Balaji then revealed his shocking ideas for a tech-governed city where citizens loyal to tech companies would form a new political tribe clad in gray t-shirts. “And if you see another Gray on the street…you do the nod,” he said, during a four-hour talk on the Moment of Zen podcast. “You’re a fellow Gray.”

The Grays’ shirts would feature “Bitcoin or Elon or other kinds of logos … Y Combinator is a good one for the city of San Francisco in particular.” Grays would also receive special ID cards providing access to exclusive, Gray-controlled sectors of the city. In addition, the Grays would make an alliance with the police department, funding weekly “policeman’s banquets” to win them over.

“Grays should embrace the police, okay? All-in on the police,” said Srinivasan. “What does that mean? That’s, as I said, banquets. That means every policeman’s son, daughter, wife, cousin, you know, sibling, whatever, should get a job at a tech company in security.”

In exchange for extra food and jobs, cops would pledge loyalty to the Grays. Srinivasan recommends asking officers a series of questions to ascertain their political leanings. For example: “Did you want to take the sign off of Elon’s building?”

    Quote

“A huge win would be a Gray Pride Parade with 50,000 Grays,” said Srinivasan. “That would start to say: ‘Whose streets? Our streets!’ You have the AI Flying Spaghetti Monster. You have the Bitcoin parade. You have the drones flying overhead in formation ... You have bubbling genetic experiments on beakers … You have the police at the Gray Pride Parade. They’re flying the Anduril drones…”

Everyone would be welcome at the Gray Pride march—everyone, that is, except the Blues. Srinivasan defines the Blue political tribe as the liberal voters he implies are responsible for the city’s problems. Blues will be banned from the Gray-controlled zones, said Balaji, unlike Republicans (“Reds”).

“Reds should be welcomed there, and people should wear their tribal colors,” said Srinivasan, who compared his color-coded apartheid system to the Bloods vs. Crips gang rivalry. “No Blues should be welcomed there.”

While the Blues would be excluded, they would not be forgotten. Srinivasan imagines public screenings of anti-Blue propaganda films: “In addition to celebrating Gray and celebrating Red, you should have movies shown about Blue abuses … There should be lots of stories about what Blues are doing that is bad.”

Please tell me this a troll.

Actions are the latest in a series of steps the Biden-Harris Administration has taken to improve safety, provide support for care workers and family caregivers, and to expand access to affordable, high-quality care Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and to have access to quality care. That’s why, today, Vice President Harris…

Specifically, the rule will ensure adequate compensation for home care workers by requiring that at least 80 percent of Medicaid payments for home care services go to workers’ wages.

I can't understate how huge this is part is. Providers have been sucking up rate increases while not increasing worker wages.

What is a SAM if not an anti-air one-way attack drone?

    Tomahawk is a drone.

Seriously through we need better nomenclature. Little bullshit squad level quadcopter isn't the same as a Global Hawk just as a F-16 isn't the same as a C-5.

Left = Control Israel. Right = Destroy Palestine.

I got into a fight with some people about this last night, specifically US involvement. They think ending US involvement would get Israel to stop, when in my opinion US involvement is the only reason they know about Gaza and would otherwise be one more forgotten people ran over by indifference, like the 300,000 in Azerbaijan. Liberal indifference to other atrocities really bugs me. They don't hate the atrocity, they hate their hands are dirty attempting to manage it. Israel without US involvement would have killed every soul in Gaza and the world would barely notice or actively look away. Probably my frustration with disability be notably absent for DEI and other progressive projects because it would actually cost money to fix.
