  1. I never get the hate for the destruction of the city. It is war, shit happens.

But Man of Steel is a mediocre movie because every character is so dull, including Superman. They wasted one of the most talented actress today in Amy Adams by making her do absolutely nothing.

Hans Zimmer's score is the only thing memorable that came out of that movie.

Oh sure insult my reading capabilities. Classy. I don't believe for a second that Disney didn't know who James Gunn was before they hired him, and had they never hired him because of those old jokes, different story, but they knew full well, and caved into a mob mentality that made the outrage seem larger than it is. This is the same company that still hires Johnny Depp who actually does horrible things like beat his wife, rather than making shitty, offensive jokes. People change; James Gunn is not the same person he was a decade ago, 40 years old or not, and he's proven that he is no longer all about making controversial, edgelord jokes, and is one of the better auteur directors for the MCU.

Like I said, I can be both mad at Gunn for making those tasteless jokes, and mad at Disney for firing him.

James Gunn is an auteur director?

Maybe I am not familiar with his work, but what exactly gave him this status? I have a hard tine imagining auteur directors work for a controlling organization like Disney's Marvel Universe.

I don't like how the narrative here is blatantly referring to comic book heroes and villains. Unbreakable kinda referred to the idea while not outright calling people such. And Split was just a lucky attempt at making a good movie which I doubt M Night will ever be able to capture the feel of again.

    We'll see, I guess...

I agree. The trailer makes it seem generic. The greatness of Unbreakable was that he was never a superhero. Just some broken guy with abilities.

    They have Deadpool and Logan.

Apocalypse was fucking awful. I think Days of Future Past being great happened by accident considering their track record.

The Guardians movies are great. This board loves Thor Ragnarok. Black Panther was great. Infinity War was great.

Actually, they have Deadpool, Logan, Days of the Future Past, First Class, and X2.

Guardians are great for a laugh. Thor Ragnarok is great fun. Black Panther was good, except for the ending. Infinity was great.

The point is, Marvel movies are fun, but they almost never even attempt to be anything more. Or different. They have no guts. Infinity War is the only movie with true guts. But even that, we'll see how Avengers 4 address the "death" of characters.

The x-men movies are mostly forgettable. I’ve recently watched the older ones and it really makes me appreciate the MCU.

MCU movies are mostly forgettable too.

The difference is X-men has Deadpool, Logan, Days of the Future Past. Fox has shown that they are willing to go past your typical superhero stories and in to R rated territory.

I am not convinced Marvel will do the same.

  6. The franchise has move so far away from being about dinosaurs. It is now basically horror film with monsters posing as dinosaurs. There is zero nuances anymore.

But beyond that, is there a single film that requires you turn off your brain more than this movie?

    Spoiler

-So they just happened to have the world's best hacker, the world's best animal trainer (who is also the world's best MMA fighter), world best paleo-biologist, the most kickass former operations manager, and the world's smartest 10 year girl working as a team huh?

-Truck just came flying into the ship and nobody noticed. Right.

-The expedition probably cost millions, but they didn't even bother to hire a single veterinarian/dino-expert. Instead, they have to rely on a paleo-biologist they barely met to heal Blue.

-Dozens of ships, boats, and helicopters are moving dinosaurs out of the island and no news media caught the wind of it. Dozens of high profile international buyers and the media never caught the wind of it.

-Dinosaurs are worth millions but security just let people roam in and out of cages without noticing.

-No antibiotics needed post surgical removal of bullets.

-Chris Pratt basically 2 inches from lava and touched lava and he is still alive.

-Creatures jump out of nowhere to rescue other creatures.

-Blue can go toe to toe with a dinosaur engineer for war that is 3 times as big.

-Claire walks with a limp after being injured. But she somehow climbed onto the roof just in time with a loaded laser gun.

-Dinosaurs just magically escape enclosures, move up and down levels, and escape buildings.

-Dinosaurs can choose to resist being tranquilized at will.

-Dinosaurs can survive in modern world, despite not having any prey or plant life that resembles that millions of years ago.

Despite of of this, some of it was kind of fun. And there were some genuine emotional scenes dealing with the life and death of dinosaurs. Overall, this film manages to be worse than the first one I have no faith that the third movie will be any better.
