D1P 2017 Charity Campaign for The Life You Can Save: $1,690 (as of September 8, 2017)   12/12/2016

I've decided to extend our charity campaign for The Life You Can Save organizations for the entirety of 2017 so feel free to contribute at any time!  Periodically through the year, I'll have game giveaways for those who have donated to the campaign as a "thank you" for supporting this worthy endeavor!

      Welcome former GAFers!   10/21/2017

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome any and all "refugees" from NeoGAF who may have discovered our humble little site as a result of the ongoing "situation" over at NeoGAF.   Feel free to check us out and if you like, join our small but interesting community!

So you're new to DayOnePatch - please read this!   10/21/2017

First of all, a warm, hearty WELCOME to DayOnePatch - we're REALLY pleased to have you here!   I mean that most sincerely!   Our site was founded in late 2010 when a bunch of people from the IGN forums got sick and tired of IGN being IGN and decided to create a brand new community under the name BadCartridge.  We operated under that name for a few years until there was a change in ownership which resulted in a change to the current name that we have now.  Since then, we've had a couple of owners before I assumed ownership of the site in mid-2016 and here we are today.   I guess I'd better say a word or two about our rules.  Look, here's the deal:  you are probably a sentient human being with a modicum of social skills so you probably have an idea of what is acceptable to say to another sentient human being with a modicum of social skills.  If what you are about to post gives you some pause as to whether you would say in in real life, then you probably shouldn't post it.  In other words, DON'T. BE. AN. ASSHOLE.  It's not that hard!  While we have a damned fine mod team, all disciplinary actions are ultimately my decision as the Supreme High Chancellor (catchy title, eh?  I came up with it myself!) of DayOnePatch.   Now that the unpleasant stuff is over, let's talk about the great things we have.  Well, we have a very semi-regular podcast!   We LOVE having members of our community as guests on the podcast, so if you don't mind having your voice transmitted to DOZENS of people, then let us know if you'd like to be a guest.   We have a Discord server for you to chat in -real-time of if you want to use the voice-chat capabilities for games! https://discord.gg/HB8C2w3   We have a Steam Community Group! http://steamcommunity.com/groups/day1patch# Yes, I know the title still says "Bad Cartridge" and that's because Valve doesn't allow name changes to Steam groups because Valve is stupid.   But the thing that I'm most proud of is the Announcement that you see at the top of the page.  http://www.dayonepatch.com/index.php?/announcement/40-d1p-2017-charity-campaign-for-the-life-you-can-save-1690-as-of-september-8-2017/ For this year, this community has donated nearly $1,700 to organizations that are trying to improve the lives of people in the developing world.  It is a true testament to the character of the individuals of this community that they've given to this project (as well as many, many others) freely and without expectation of anything in return.  Because of this, I'm honored and humbled to be a part of this community.   In closing, we're really glad you're here (feel free to bring other friends too!) and let's have a helluva lot of fun!

  1. EA really doesn't want me to purchase their games

Again. I don't give a shit what they do. If they try to cut Steam out, honestly? I'll probably just not buy the games. I don't want 30 different download services for my own personal gaming collection. Choices are nice, but I found the best one and I want to stick with it.
  2. EA really doesn't want me to purchase their games

Yeah, I've been noticing these assholes raising the price up to $60 for PC games now. I'm sorry, exactly when did it cost more to put a game on PC than a console? Oh it doesn't? Okay. Just checking. I'm pretty sure console licensing costs, making discs, labels, packaging, shipping, etc all cost a HELL of a lot more than paying Steam to put it in their store and handle the logistics. Oh and if you're selling it in YOUR OWN PERSONAL GOD DAMN STORE, I'm pretty sure you have NO excuses at all to raise the price. Except that people will pay it. Thanks to all the people that bought CoD MW2 on PC (god knows why you would anyway). I'm pretty sure they made out like bandits because shit tons of games went up to $60 after that.
  3. What's with all this bickering and side stepping in this topic? Why is it wrong to say ALL the politicians have been insufferable douche bags and that they should tone down the rhetoric? And why is anyone REALLY trying to say that one side is worse than the other? If you're trying to paint Republicans or Democrats as being worse than the other, you haven't been paying attention to politics long enough to know better. They're equally as disingenuous and dramatic. Really. They are. Don't take people gawking at Sarah Palin's stupidity as some attack on the right and blow this whole thing off with "omg stop saying it's just Republicans" because that's not it at all. Sarah Palin is a moron. Period. I honestly don't think anyone here would disagree with that or the fact that her stupid ass map is unnecessary. Did she cause this to happen? Obviously not, no shit. Is that kind of rhetoric really necessary? No. Is anyone proposing a law to stop it? No. We'd just like to see them volunteer to stop being idiots for a while. It's getting ridiculous now. They're super charging every debate with as much partisanship as possible and wonder why everyone is worked up into a froth. This isn't healthy debate. It's a screaming contest. The only people that win are the politicians themselves. The longer they hold onto that office by making you hate the other guy more, the longer they have to hold on to those generous campaign donations. And honestly, I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with calling Sarah Palin a moron. I don't think anyone really has any issues with this, right? I'm pretty sure that calling Sarah Palin an idiot is relevant to every political topic because she sticks her dumb ass into every debate. This isn't an attack on the right or left. It's an attack on really...shut the hell up with your gun metaphors and theatrics. State your stance on the issues, quit attacking each other, and honestly...cross hairs on the districts? Are you fucking serious? Grow up. We want leaders, not children. I'm already getting tired of this shit and I've only been old enough to follow politics ~10 years.
  4. Post Your Rig

That's almost exactly what this PC was before I upgraded. I didn't use it enough either. Been using it a lot since I got my quad core and 4870x2. I started to game more on the old rig and realized I wanted an upgrade. Lol. Damn video card was expensive at the time too. >_<
  5. EA really doesn't want me to purchase their games

They'll get my money when they put it on Steam. I'm not going to their shitty store so that's pretty much it. If I have to wait for it...oh well. I have other games to play anyway. With my gaming backlog I have the advantage of time.
  6. PSN IDs

All my stuff is in the sig. First time I've done that but since this is a gaming board, it seemed appropriate.
  7. EA really doesn't want me to purchase their games

If it ever came to Steam completely owning the market it would be pretty much because of how awesome Steam is. I pretty much don't buy any PC games outside of Steam myself as well. It's so much less of a pain in the ass to start up ONE program to launch all my games from and Steam sales are legendary. I mean, I don't know what better I could ask for from my service. I don't think that they SHOULD be the only service available but they're definitely the only one I generally use.

There wouldn't be much to see because it isn't an open case and I don't have and lights and shit inside.
  9. Torchlight II "may" support up to 8-player co-op

I'm pretty sure D2 was 8 as well. This certainly interests me. On the other hand, I think the only reason I even bought Torchlight was because I got it on a Steam Sale for like 5 bucks. I swear it goes on sale for 5 bucks during literally EVERY SINGLE Steam Sale. I sorely miss having multiplayer though. I ended up playing Titan Quest instead since I could actually play with friends. We'll see how close it releases to Diablo 3, because honestly...there's no way I'm going to play both if they release anywhere NEAR each other.
  10. Day One Patch Steam Group

    I'm down. http://steamcommunity.com/id/webheaded
  11. What web content do you pay for?

Newzbin <_< Usenet service *cough* Wife's cooking website (yearly) I used to pay for Consumer Reports (used it for researching when I was buying a new car) but I realized that after a while...I didn't really use it anymore. Used to have Netflix too, but I was kind of irritated at how much harder it was to get Blurays and then they wanted to actually charge me MORE at the same time. I'll probably end up going back to them again eventually...though the way the media companies dick them around on the streaming stuff still irritates me to no end. They wonder why people pirate their stuff... I've also considering paying for a pro Slashdot account and donating to Reddit. I am, however, a cheap bastard and haven't gotten around to it yet. Pretty much when things go pay-only...I stop using it. There's always someone willing to do it almost as well as the paid sites for free. Pay for NYT? Lol. I'll go to another site, thanks.
  12. If you eat at Chik-Fil-A you hate gays

This is depressing. I like that place...I only started eating there a couple years ago. That being said, I can't say I'm super surprised. I knew they were super religious baptists of some kind...I was just hoping they were the neutral jesus loving kind that wanted peace and happiness instead of the hating gays and trying to throw them to the back of the bus kind. I hate it when businesses do shit like this. Just give me my food and shut up. You're a business...you're not supposed to want to split people like this. [face_sad]
  13. I was following this a lot and it's sick. This state needs to stop making the news for horrible things happening. I live here and this just makes me ashamed. We're better than this. While I don't think Sarah Palin caused this, I think all this hyper-partisian bullshit needs to stop. They get people frothing at the mouth and act amazed when something awful like this happens. It is irresponsible to make a map with CROSSHAIRS on it and tell people to RELOAD on your Twitter. WTF? How dense can you be? I hope that if one good thing comes out of this it is that the idiot politicians take it down a notch. They're not helping anyone. I'm not a tin foil hat, I'm just getting sick of this shit...from all sides.
