Fear Inoculum - Adam Jones is the weak link here. Chamberlain and Carey are rock solid, but like most rythm sections, they just want to beat the shit out of things. Maynard's participation being so after the fact is tragically noticeable. Some of the tracks are fine but (hot take) 10,000 Days is better. Jones is Tool as much as anyone else, but it would be cool if they would introduce another solid creative influence with Maynard being so busy.

The ambient soundtrack he provided for Southland Tales was the only good thing about that movie.

I actually hadn't been aware of Moby since Play was huge when I was a teenager I guess. I just randomly heard this one LA1 ambient track on a stream I was listening to and it was fantastic. I didn't know he even dabbled in Ambient at all, the more you know!

I’m kinda the same way. When I was a teenager Play was the first thing I heard from him. But I liked play so much I listened to his older stuff like  Animal Rights and disliked it.
(When I was younger I really disliked things if they didn’t sound like their other stuff but I’m quite the opposite these days) but I think Play was a one off thing.

Then I heard the Southland Tales soundtrack and later Hotel Ambient and really liked it so I’m inclined to think I would enjoy more of his music including the older stuff I didn’t enjoy previously.

I also really liked Play, it's a brilliant album in terms of the mix of influences and sounds I think. Same thing happened to me, I heard Animal Rights maybe once and didn't get it at all so I kind of left it at Play. I do that often where I listen to one album over and over and that's the artist for me. Going to check out all his albums now actually.

I don't think I heard anything by Aphex Twin but Selected Ambient Works I and II for like 10+ years because I heard Come To Daddy and hated it so much.

You should really change that because Come to Daddy is pretty much the only song of his that sounds like that. Also, that song is on an EP it's not on any of his albums. Might I suggest Drukqs and the Richard D. James album? Plus those ambient albums you enjoy. :p

Then also check out AFX since that is one of his pseudonyms

Oh no, this was a long time ago by now! I ended up with a huge, huge love of Aphex Twin in general and really like most of his stuff, minus maybe the overly hyper and chaotic last few releases. My favorites are the SAW albums and I Care Because You Do. Some of that soundcloud (or whatever service it was) leaked stuff in YouTube compilations is utterly fantastic too. Richard D. James album is great too but I prefer I Care..., it sounds more "basement"-y and I like the dingy sound.

Oh and I also have the "Classics" Collection album which is killer.

Yeah I believe we had this conversation already and it seems maybe you listened to him since. Or maybe I'm remembering differently. :p

Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground

I bought it at the store (yes, seriously) because of the cool title and cover like it was the 90's all over. Turns out it's a really cool, weird little album and the singer sounds like a wacko. After a few listens, I'd give it an 8/10.

Have you never heard of the Violent Femmes?

I've heard the name fly around sure, but I had never heard them to my knowledge, at least not this album. I also wasn't into Punk Rock or anything growing up so I missed that train and am just now getting into some stuff I missed.

Fair enough

If your interested try these , they are the bedrock of DC hardcore

I do have that Bad Brains album, it's great. The last few years I've really liked The Gun Club, Samhain, the first TSOL album, Dead Kennedys' Frankenchrist album and some others in regards to American stuff.

The new Possessed album melts my fucking face. Can’t wait to see these guys in March. After such a long hiatus they came correct with this album.

I’ve been absolutely hooked on this album by Utah’s Caladan Brood. The clean vocals are amazing. If you’re into The Summoning and haven’t heard these guys - check it out. Also, it’s based on a big book series called Malazan. Might have to check it out.

while I like Bölzer so far,  I haven’t gone through their catalog too much.  Also, the lead singer, despite being mixed-race has some questionable views. Nonetheless, this arguably the best riff in metal. That opening is just fucking unreal. Makes me want to smash my monitor over my colleagues head.

Ive been going through Sodom’s library again as i haven’t listened to them in forever (been doing that a lot recently with a bunch of bands I’ve always known and skimmed over - but never really dove into). Anyway - this track rips:

ive also been really digging into Bolt Thrower. Always liked them but I’ve been in a BT kick recently for sure.

last, tonight I’m going to see one of my fav thrash bands!! 🤘(and a bonus of seeing Ludichrist, whom I’ve never seen live)

Mixed race or not hes definitely on the White Supremacist side . Him trying to claim the wolfsangel,Swastika, and sunwheel are not White Pride is dumb. Really good music though

I agree. But he’s made several statements that he’s absolutely not. The whole neo-Nazi aspect of BM is so bizarre to me.

Grimes -  Miss Anthropocene

It's a synth pop scifi concept album. I wasn't a huge fan of her last album, but this one is pretty great. I just have to try to forget that she is Elon Musk's girlfriend.

And this is my favorite of her tracks, but it's a different album:

Edit:

This may be my favorite track off of the album.

I look at this thread endlessly and always think to myself - I really need to make better use of spotify outside of gaming podcasts and pre-made playlists to run to. Maybe I should start to try and listen to one new album a week...

I didn't know it had podcasts.

Intronaut - Fluid Existential Inversions (2020) - 10/10

First full album I've purchased this year. It's by default at my number one spot because of that but it's going to be tough to beat. It's been almost five years since their last release but the wait has been worth it. Each song is a master class in modern progressive metal. My favorite track is the last track "Sour Everythings". It sounds like Ben Sharpe (Cloudkicker) helped them write this song. I should pull out the liner notes and see but I'm at work and can't.
