GeneticBlueprint
https://www.wect.com/2020/08/05/beirut-wedding-photo-shoot-video-captures-blast/ A wedding shoot catches the blast on the ground. Doesn't look like anybody was hurt in this video but you can see all the shattered glass from the shock wave.

So the crew abandoned it. It's been sitting there for 5 years. The port authority knew the danger and has been asking the government what to do with it and the government has not responded. Then blooey.

Quote Lebanese customs officials wrote letters to the courts at least six times from 2014 to 2017, seeking guidance on how to dispose of the highly combustible material, according to public records cited by a Lebanese lawmaker, Salim Aoun. Solutions proposed by the officials included exporting the ammonium nitrate, which is used in fertilizer and explosives, or donating it to the Lebanese Army. But the judiciary failed to respond to the letters, the records suggested.

Sparks from welding that caused the initial fire actually did spring to my mind yesterday.

mclumber1
It started out as a fire before it became an explosion. I wouldn't surprised if the welders were able to GTFO of there.

Ricofoley
I wouldn't read anything into that other than it's the same kinda thing as when he has to make a statement ahead of a hurricane hitting and he'll actually sort of half-brag about the strength of the hurricane, like, "It's a category 5, I'm not sure anyone's ever even heard of a category this high, actually." When he's just kind of rambling and doesn't really know what he's talking about one of his go-to moves is to just talk about how big some numbers are, and it doesn't really matter if they're numbers that indicate something good. Demut
Has anyone read that article yet and does it explain the legal reasoning? For what I vaguely remember the problem was improper storage. So was the company in that lawsuit legally responsible for part that, too? Seems counterintuitive if so.
