CitizenVectron
I've accepted the unfortunate fact that individual efforts will effectively do nothing to stop climate change, or the mass extinction event occurring. The pandemic slowed global transportation and consumer activity by a giant amount for the first few months, and it barely made a dent in global emissions. Good thread. That said, the concluding tweet, Seems fair, but looking at incentives.... And as for 44 minutes ago, Kal-El814 said: As with Boeing, until we start locking these people up, nothing will change. The whole thing is nuts. The crazy part is where the fire probably would have happened anyway because another fire started nearby at the same time due to a tree falling on a power line, the tree suffering from an internal rot/disease that could have only been detected with a much closer inspection which no one could expect any utility to do. Commissar SFLUFAN
Paolo Bacigalupi's The Water Knife shall indeed be regarded as prophetic in due course. Quote Set at an undetermined point in the near future, the American Southwest has been ravaged by drought, brought on by rising heat and extreme water shortages due to the debilitating effects of climate change. The Colorado River and its tributaries, which are an essential source of water for the region, has decreased to a mere trickle. In Nevada, Arizona, and California, corrupt business magnates control the severely depleted water supply, and routinely battle in armed conflicts for dwindling portions of the river. I expect we'll see the extinction of Polar Bears within the next 10-20 years, for sure. It seems polar bears are moving further and further south, and they are mating with grizzly far more often. They are finding a lot more hybrids than ever before. so they might survive, as long as they have adequate food. Bears are one of the most adaptable species there are. also, the inuit/eskimo say their numbers are increasing. We’ll see. I just pray it doesn’t kill them off. dualhunter
In one of BBC documentaries they showed some polar bears that are doing quite well because the walruses are climbing up cliffs and when the bears come they try to get back to the water. Rather than carefully taking the same path they took up, they just throw themselves down the cliff and then the bears feast. So walruses might have to kill themselves off before polar bears go completely extinct.
b_m_b_m_b_m
The real answer is that though it is complicated in the exact path of change, the change to climate now and in the future is moving too fast for these animals to fully adapt which has led and will lead to further extinctions

Im just saying they are a very tough species, and they seem to be adapting better than most. but extinctions will be everywhere. Ig won’t be long before muskox sre all dead of heat exhaustion. They can’t survive hot weather and move with the snow. Multiple arctic bird species won’t survive. The ocean isn’t getting healthier. Things are bad.
