Resident Evil Village is a phenomenal game. It manages to reinvent itself in some new creative ways while still delivering one of the most explosive and surprising experiences in the series.

Resident Evil Village stands tall as one of the best entries in the series and one of the best gaming experiences of the year.

IGN Italy - Italian - 9.5 / 10

A great Resident Evil capable of taking the best gameplay ideas from Resident Evil 4 and 7, leading the series into a new era.

PSX Brasil - Portuguese - 95 / 100

Resident Evil Village is just incredible. It is a mixture of what was established with Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 biohazard, but it manages to have its own identity and offers a unique experience. The gameplay is fun, challenging and features smart puzzles. Fear, as well as tension, are also present in much of the journey. The only flaws are the Mercenaries mode and the story that may not appeal to everyone.

Game Informer - 9.3 / 10

Village doesn't pull any punches when it comes to horror, but a consistent rollout of new weapons and tools makes it hard to walk away from these terrors

‎Village leans on what has been achieved with RE7, improves all technical and playable aspects and introduces new mechanics. The setting is impeccable, and offers terrifying moments, but sometimes so many possibilities (the "crafting", collectibles or hunting) make us lose "the focus" on this great horror story.‎

Capcom gives us the definitive Resident Evil to celebrate the saga's 25th anniversary. Not for being the best, not for being the most faithful to the roots, not for being the one that will cause the greatest impact in the industry and probably not for being the one that will occupy the most special place in the hearts of the players. , but yes for being a hilarious, varied, intense title, with a great sense of rhythm and, most important of all, for being the Resident Evil that has finally been able to combine in a balanced and harmonious way all the aspects that it saga has explored throughout its history.

‎Needless to say, if you're a fan of the series, especially what was done with Resident Evil VII a few years ago, you'll be very happy with what Resident Evil Village presents to us. What I would say is that you might want to lower your expectations for the size of the game and the developer's own ambitions a little. The eighth installment of this beloved saga is one that fulfills in a very good way almost everything it tries, carrying in a very dignified way with the name it represents, however, it is also true that we would have loved to have taken more important risks and that the events happened more calmly to present a longer adventure. Anyway, Capcom proves its worth again and it's still at the spearhead if we talk about AAA development.‎

Resident Evil Village raises the bar ever so slightly, but just enough for Capcom to maintain its grip in AAA survival horror experiences. For players, it might be hard to loosen their hands from the controller.

Critical Hit - 9 / 10

Resident Evil: Village is equal parts terrifying and empowering. It's haunting, tense, and filled with all kinds of gruesome action you'll only ever see in a franchise that revels in its campy nature. Fans of the franchise will no doubt pick up on its familiar beats, but that's for the best as it strikes a happy balance between fresh and familiar.

Destructoid - 9 / 10

Quote

I don't think Resident Evil Village is going to be very divisive per se: I suspect the reaction will be generally positive. But it's going to definitely spark some conversations as to how it stacks up against the current darling of RE7, and it has a long hill to climb to match its success financially. As for me, I think it complements it quite well, and then some.

"Village" is a rollercoaster rushing through a history of contemporary horror. And there's no stoping it. With its gorgeous landscapes, complex level design, visceral combat and constant thrills (cheap and sophisticated alike) it's a true testament to "Resident Evil" glory.

Resident Evil Village combines two much-loved views of the cult series, adding a lot from each other - much more than just Lady Dimitrescu.

GameBlast - Portuguese - 9 / 10

Quote

Resident Evil Village is a reference to the horror genre and an important milestone for the series in its 25th anniversary celebrations. Capcom first-person gameplay remains a wise decision, bringing gameplay and storytelling together in an excellent way. The main inspiration is the older brother, Resident Evil 4, with mechanics, characters and quality that make Village a kind of spiritual successor to one of the most revered games in the franchise. A must-have title for Resident Evil fans.

GameByte - 9 / 10

To put it simply, barring remakes, Resident Evil Village is the best entry in the series since Resident Evil 4.

GameMAG - Russian - 9 / 10

Resident Evil Village is a loud and bombastic game, paired with over the top story, great set of characters, and really impressive visuals. The more action-oriented gameplay approach in the latter half may leave a bitter taste to the more orthodox fans of the series, but nevertheless Village is on its way to became one of the best games this year has to offer.

GameSpot - 9 / 10

The sequel to Resident Evil 7 leans heavily on Resident Evil 4's brand of action, but adds its own sensibilities to the mix.

GamingBolt - 9 / 10

Resident Evil Village expertly combines tense horror, thrilling action, engaging exploration, and compelling storytelling in a single sublime experience, delivering one of the best games in the history of Capcom's beloved survival horror franchise.

Gfinity - 4.5 / 5 stars

Quote

Resident Evil Village is an essential horror experience that shows off what Capcom is capable of when it doesn’t compromise its vision in any way. The developer uses subgenres like puzzle pieces, clicking them into place on a grid to reveal the bigger picture: a survival horror collage, realised with remarkable production values and a deep love for its extensive roots. Resident Evil Village will be held high by Lady Dimitrescu and her peers for years to come, to rest head and shoulders above its genre rivals.

God is a Geek - 9 / 10

Resident Evil Village has managed to keep a series that has been going for 25 years feel new. The combat is satisfying, the puzzles are well-orchestrated, and it looks incredible.

Resident Evil Village is a survival horror of the highest rehearsal, which is the culmination of a fantastic period in the history of the series.

PlayStation Universe - 9 / 10

Quote

Resident Evil Village combines the best of the past 25 years of the franchise, bringing a compelling adventure that should appeal to action and horror fans alike. With massive locations offering a wealth of exploration and hidden goodies, a meaty campaign with some decent unlockables, Village is the franchise at the top of its game.

Press Start - 9 / 10

Quote

While Resident Evil Village channels the best bits of several Resident Evil games, it stands on its own to be something never done before in the franchise. A macabre potpourri of European, gothic inspired styles of tension and horror, Resident Evil Village is a worthy follow-up to Resident Evil 7: biohazard and one that any self-respecting horror fan shouldn't miss.

Push Square - 9 / 10

Quote

While the Resident Evil series has been on a high for a number of years now, Resident Evil Village sets an entirely new standard. Its cast of villains is up there with the very best, memorable sequences and gameplay sections beg to be played over and over again, and a sense of constant dread created by the atmosphere and soundtrack keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even the combat is solid this time around and the lengths Capcom has gone to take advantage of the PS5 pays off with impressive Ray-Tracing. Does it better Resident Evil 4? Maybe not, but it's damn close. Real damn close. Resident Evil Village is an essential playthrough for anyone with even a passing interest in the franchise.

Resident Evil Village is a grand return.

The combat is visceral and vibrant, the environments are splendid and mysterious, and the story had decent enough oomph to keep me involved throughout. I wish this was an overall scarier game, but it’s still a thrilling one nonetheless.

Resident Evil Village is an instant classic, a solid basis for the franchise's future and the perfect mixture between the beloved game structure of Resident Evil 4 and the modern take on franchise reinvented by Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil Village is a great followup to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard that will delight any horror fan looking for a new game to scare the [censored] out of them. The only downside is that its increased focus on combat can feel a little jarring, especially when playing at lower difficulties.

Wccftech - 9 / 10

Resident Evil Village is a wild, thrilling ride across seemingly every horror genre and idea that happened to pass through the mad minds at Capcom. Not every aspect of the game is perfect, but its highs are very high and solid core mechanics and excellent presentation hold the grisly patchwork together. You may survive Resident Evil Village, but your thoughts will linger there long after you've escaped.

We Got This Covered - 4.5 / 5 stars

Resident Evil Village is at once terrifying, exhilarating, hilarious, and beautiful. Its crowning achievement is that it’s a horror game that’s not only perfectly paced, but it also has an explosive third act and ends on its highest note. It isn’t enough to dethrone Resident Evil 4 as an action title, but it’s a marked improvement over 7’s solid foundation.

Resident Evil Village is a technical masterpiece, featuring a fantastically realised and foreboding setting with a great sense of balance between action and horror elements. The king of survival horror refuses to relinquish its crown.

Resident Evil Village is one of the first games that feels truly "next-gen," with absolutely stunning tech bolstered by the industry-leading RE Engine. Stunning visuals, truly bizarre creatures, a memorable parade of eccentric characters, and truly satisfying gameplay make Resident Evil Village soar, even if a few quirks in the plot delivery deflate the spectacle. Resident Evil Village is a truly excellent game and one of the best entries in the legendary franchise. Long may it continue.

Resident Evil Village tastes new while still exuding the aromas of its essence. It manages to explore terror through new settings while compiling different approaches to build a videogame that, while tending towards action, does not forget the puzzle, exploration and tension typical of the saga. All this with a top technical aspect and an interesting plot that manages to be significant in the macro-plot of its fiction.

‎Resident Evil Village is a risky game and a new evolution of the concept of the saga that Capcom started with Resident Evil VII. Despite its flaws, Village is a great Resident Evil experience that will make us look scared and live typical situations of the saga.‎

AusGamers - 8 / 10

Quote

Not to suggest your rendezvous with the Lady of the Castle isn't one to savour, or even tremble at, it's just that most of the released media and tone for Village has been centred around her and a bit of the village, but what they wholly amount for in the full product is essentially tutorial content, at best.

Checkpoint Gaming - 8 / 10

Quote

After the too close for comfort clash with the Baker family in Louisana, Resident Evil Village attempts to match that creepy tone and do more. Much more. As a result, this tale has facets of methodical horror combined with the ridiculous action of Resident Evil 5 or 6. While some players may not enjoy one or the other, undeniably Capcom does both very well. A better mix of the survival horror and extreme action could have made this stronger overall, as the messy pacing, lacking antagonist development, and easing difficulty hurt the overall adventure. The final package is still a wonderful spectacle of a video game. It’s entertaining, it’s engrossing, and it’s Resident Evil in every aspect. With the best visual/audio design in the series’ and a satisfying Metroidvania world design, Resident Evil Village is unmissable.

EGM - 8 / 10

Resident Evil Village expands the pared-back, first-person gameplay of Resident Evil 7 into a more ambitious and over-the-top survival horror experience. Greater variety and more mechanical depth prove that there's a lot of potential left to explore in this new approach to the series, but some elements are a bit uneven, and you may find yourself missing the simplicity of the Baker ranch.

Game Revolution - 8 / 10

Quote

I’ve been a fan of Resident Evil since I played the original RE2 when it was released in 1998. However, I’m not a purist. The increased emphasis on action isn’t Resident Evil Village’s issue. The problem is that it’s taken many elements and smooshed them together with little regard as to how they fit. If Capcom took a little more care with the game’s tone and its place in the series, it could have been a classic. As it is, RE Village is simply a good game with excellent production value.

Gameblog - French - 8 / 10

Quote

Resident Evil Village is both a beautiful and worthy successor to Resident Evil 7 biohazard. And it is more than just a sequel that rehashes ideas seen in the previous game. Capcom's game tries things that have never been seen before in the series and keeps things moving at the right pace with a few good twists along the way. It also must be said that Capcom's developers masterfully used both light and sound to put the player in Ethan's shoes. The only problem with the game is that it may be a bit too action-oriented near the end. That being said, Resident Evil Village is undoubtedly a great Resident Evil game.

Resident Evil Village pulls the best bits from the series' past and recombines them into something fresh and surprising. It can't maintain that momentum for its entire run, but Village's heights are among the best in Resident Evil's illustrious history.

PCMag - 4 / 5 stars

Quote

Resident Evil Village blends Resident Evil 7's grounded horror with Resident Evil 4's fast action and offbeat concepts. More tension, more combat, and more weirdness round out a game whose faults lie on the edges of the overall experience.

PlayStation LifeStyle - 8 / 10

Quote

Resident Evil Village is a good game with a lot of opportunity to have been a great game. And yet, for as many criticisms as I have, it was an experience that I was happy to play through a second time immediately after finishing the first. The new setting, creatures, villains, and story are engaging additions to the Resident Evil canon, even if the gameplay doesn't seem to have evolved all that much and the scares have been pulled back. It's still a fun romp in a new setting with new monsters; a great and fitting piece of the broader series that makes me excited to see where it's all headed next.

The latest in the famous Resident Evil series succeeds with breathless pace and a constant trade-off between tension and terror

The Outerhaven Productions - 4 / 5 stars

Quote

Resident Evil Village is a great entry into the otherwise weird third trilogy of the Resident Evil franchise. Taking a lot of what made Resident Evil 7 work as a great horror experience and adding to it with things that people enjoyed about Resident Evil 4. However, Resident Evil Village does feel like by adding things from Resident Evil 4, that CAPCOM is about to remake some mistakes of old.

TheGamer - 4 / 5 stars

Quote

Its attachment to the past can hold it back from greatness, especially in regards to its dedication to bombastic set-pieces and a hesitation to explore its own ideas. Village is drenched in excellence throughout, but the occasional fumble stops it from reaching the heights of both its predecessor and the seminal masterpiece it is so desperate to imitate. There’s also not nearly enough big lady - she needs her own game.

Thumbsticks - 4 / 5 stars

Quote

Resident Evil Village is an exceptional addition to the seminal horror franchise, offering a gratifying balance between atmospheric horror and frantic action alongside captivating villains, an intriguing setting and plenty of fresh ideas. While its story ultimately fails to capitalize on its exciting central mystery, there’s no doubting it’s one of the series’ most compelling iterations in years.

VG247 - 4 / 5 stars

Taken alone, any one slice of the game – like a single house, the village itself, even the way combat handles – has its issues. But combined, it merges into something that’s still special – even if it isn’t quite as brilliant as Resident Evil 7 or 2 Remake. It’s an easy recommendation – though if you didn’t back in 2017, you might want to play RE7 first.

Paste Magazine - 7.5 / 10

Quote

undefined. For all the game's problems, though, it provides some truly excellent moments that I'll remember for a long time. I shouldn't be shocked that a major AAA game like Village would fall into AAA traps, but there's something special about Village that felt like it could escape the franchise's own sordid past and deliver something as revolutionary-if not more-than RE7. But, like all things camp, maybe we'll reevaluate the game's banality in a decade or two; Village might be a cult oddity in good time.

Pure Xbox - 7 / 10

Resident Evil Village may not quite live up to the highs of its terrifying predecessor but it's a still a solid entry in the long-running series that's well worth checking out. Eastern Europe makes for a fantastically atmospheric and surprisingly open setting here, it's chock full of delightfully oddball characters and features a handful of properly entertaining set-pieces to blast through. There may well be a few rough edges, with a rather painful protagonist and some duff boss battles to contend with but, overall, this is one truly messed up village that's well worth a visit.

Siliconera - 7 / 10

Walking away from Resident Evil Village leaves me with mixed feelings. It wasn’t a game that I immediately disliked, and I can’t say that I didn’t have a lot of fun playing it. But a second playthrough made me more aware of pacing issues, and on harder difficulties the general spike that otherwise feels somewhat artificial.

The franchise's first-person foundation is beefed up in some areas but weakened in many more.

Digital Trends - 3 / 5 stars

Resident Evil Village is an uneven anthology of horror movie send-ups. Sometimes it offers a truly exciting vision of the series’ future with imaginative world-building and rewarding exploration. Other times, it’s a fairly run-of-the-mill shooter that struggles to provide any real stakes or tension. Those two tones are often at odds with one another, highlighting all of the franchise’s best and worst instincts in one eclectic package. Chalk it up to a quarter-life crisis.

I actually did, yeah. I saw people recommend that on here. If it wasn't Resident Evil, I would've turned it off a lot quicker honestly. Reviews shit on ZombiU's combat back in the day but as per the demo, this feels like an even weaker version of that. It feels like RE7's 'tight corridor' movement speed and style transplanted into this large outdoor combat-heavy environment and I thought it just felt bad all around, every aspect of it. I do think I'm gonna dig the game as a whole, I don't necessarily mind some subpar combat in Survival Horror but I'm just not Day 1 Fuck Yeah Let's Go about it anymore.

Oh I actually think ZombiU is an awesome and severely underrated game but the combat definitely had that budget title feel to it while still fun and cool. I'll always cut a game like ZombiU way more slack than a Capcom game. I more from a RE game especially considering it's clearing relying heavily on RE4 inspiration. The only thing in the combat department that even resembles RE4 in the demo at least was the fact enemies are more twitchy but the combat itself felt shitty combined with that.

I most definitely agree it'll evolve just fine and I'm absolutely not writing the game off wholesale but I was taken aback by the quality of the combat, or lack of. And sure man, we tend to have somewhat similar tastes I think actually based on our posts so I'll gladly check out your impressions

Just waiting for steam to allow me to start the download! Bought the Deluxe edition from CDKeys and now it's a waiting game! It's under 60 bucks there at least, my fingers are crossed that it will run well.  I'm stuck with my 2080Ti now for well into the future and I'm not buying either of the new consoles either till at least middle of 2022.

You’ll have to turn some stuff down from max for 4k/60 or do 1800p/60 or 1440p/60 worst case, either way you’ll be able to have it running/looking better than either next gen console with a 2080ti.
