Resident Evil VIIIage - Information Thread, update: "Winters' Expansion" TGS trailer

At this point I think I'm just ready to wait for the game. I think the reason the demo has such stupid restrictions on it is that they don't want to spoil stuff, which the previews probably will. Half the fun of a RE is not knowing what's in the next room/area. I'd rather discover it for myself. I'm kind of already a little bummed that they've shown so much of the Lady and the other vampire chicks. RE is at its best when its mysterious.

There isn't much to spoil in regards to the demo no matter how long you play it, the demo has an ending point which makes the 30 minute restriction silly.

Yes, sir. I've stayed away from all footage and now have to determine which console I'm playing it on.

The monsters looked out of place to me in the demo. I don’t know how to explain it... it looked like they weren’t really part of the game?

Was reading some impressions on it earlier and a lot of people seemed to be of the opinion that the lighting and hit reactions on the enemies were really off. Some comments like 'the enemies looked like stickers placed in the game world'. Apparently gunplay is also pretty much RE7 levels of poop despite a much bigger focus on Action.

I am, or was, very excited for the game but I'm not sure after reading demo reactions that this is really what I was expecting based on earlier gameplay footage and all. With the amount of action involved, I was expecting it to veer more towards RE4 in terms of gunplay or at least be improved drastically from RE7. What little action there was in RE7 was the worst part of it to me. Trying to hit some hyperactive bobbleheaded bullet sponge with those controls sounds obnoxious.

That RE engine makes everything look like its moving underwater. Very floaty, like there's no weight to anything. I've felt that way ever since RE7. I can see how people might feel the enemies are detached from the gameworld.

I don’t think it would have jumped out to me, except the NPCs you interact with immediately after the fight sequence look like they belong just fine. I also didn’t feel this way about any of the baddies in RE VII.

The combat felt pretty “bad” too, but I assume that some of that is due to this part of the game being early / funneling you to the story beat. I hope so, anyway. I don’t mind feeling “weak” in RE games, necessarily, especially early on until you get better at it. The first time through the village in RE4 was a struggle, by the time you know the system Leon just mercs everyone.

We’ll see.

How does this run on PS4 Pro?

See above. As in how it will ACTUALLY run I'm hearing not so good on the last gen consoles. Well according to @stepee

We shall see. I'm hoping it plays well on my One X. :s

I didn't play it but from what I saw turning off aiming and movement acceleration improved the controls a lot. This game is possibly a good candidate for M&KB controls.

That being said I couldn't aim worth a lick on the two REmakes (2&3) unless I used M&KB. :p

Maybe it's because I haven't been paying too much attention, and maybe it's because Resident Evil has become increasingly silly over the years, but having sat through over an hour of new Resident Evil Village my one overarching takeaway is this: this game is completely batshit.

Maybe it's good with m/k on PC but it sucked on PS4 in my opinion. That last boat segment was especially bad. I liked the rest of it.

I've played it every time with a gamepad. Maybe it's the 60+ FPS difference? I can't remember if the PS4 version ran at 60, but half of the fun of the shooting was how damn smooth everything felt.

In its defence, I played that on base PS4 still as well. I just remember never being able to hit shit somehow and it feeling sluggish, weird and wimpy. Then again I haven't played it since the weekend it came out either...

I recommend giving it a second chance on PS4 Pro/PS5/whatever'll play it at 60! The regular pistol definitely takes more shots than previous RE titles (not quite as tanky as RE2 remake's enemies, which I personally enjoyed) but you get some good guns as usual and it's fun to just blast the shit out of enemies. I also like that there's a few minor defensive and offensive techs you can learn (like cancelling a heal with a block) that add just a bit of extra depth.

I do plan on replaying on PS5 soon actually. Been in a very Horror mood after playing Lone Survivor.

It's not worth it for this game, imo. Thanks for the heads up, though!

Please explain why, though. I can get 60fps on my one x. After the village there is nothing coming out anytime soon. I'm thinking I'm going to wait until this fall or even later to jump into next gen now. I'm completely content with all the consoles I have and I have plenty if games to play. I'm in no rush at all. This gen hasn't even started yet imo.

60 fps at 1080p vs 60 fps at 4k

Scarlet Nexus coming in June, Then The Gunk in September. Halo Infinite sometime after.

I'm all-in on Returnal, RE8 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart through June. Quite a bit better than the beginning of last gen, which for me was quite slow to start. Wii U had a stronger 2014, though.

I can get 4k at 30fps which I'm completely fine with. Plus, from the demo impressions it's not sounding like this game is going to be great. I didn't watch the new hands on impressions posted above because I don't want to spoil anything. How are the impressions since they played for 5 hours or so?

Yea, the PS5 is going to start rolling but again, those games don't make me jump up in joy to buy a ps5 now. I'll wait this Fall for Horizon 2 plus anything else released at that time.

I thought RE8 was going to be a truly next gen title a while back. I wanted an xsx for this game but knowing what I know now, imo I don't need an xsx to enjoy this game. It'll look great on my one x and hopefully run ok. Again, I appreciate the heads up though.
