You bastard.

On a sidenote, I just downloaded and played The Last Guardian for about 30 minutes last night and good god are the controls and camera hideous after playing Demon's Souls for like two hours.

The Last Guardian is from the same team that gave us the classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, both of which also had idiosyncratic controls and a fussy camera. It sort of comes with the territory. :p

Oh I know, I really like Ico back in the day but never got into Shadow. I'll get used to it because otherwise TLG seems very interesting.

Sometimes you gotta suffer a bit to earn the good stuff. That's been the case with most weird/strange stuff I watch or play. Usually it's been worth it though.

I got on a little bit last night. On my second playthrough now with a mage build. Got a little cocky and tried (tried) to beat the Old Hero and got it handed to me. Lost about 70,000 souls in the process. Went ahead and ejected the disc and set it aside for a little while. lol

Soooo...after my 'Haha' reaction I absolutely got my ass handed to me in 4-2 tonight. Lost something like 40,000 souls. The run back to the boss is just too obnoxious so I did the same, just put the game down for the night. I was getting dangerously close to wanting to smack a couch pillow after the third time getting invaded on top of it all.

He's wondering if anyone's still playing besides kinda-sorta me (will finish NG+ after Miles Morales). :p

I stopped but will get back into it soon; not sure if anyone else does this but sometimes when I really love a game will stop playing at the very very end and not beat it for several weeks not really sure why I hink maybe i just dont want it to be over?

I'm not teally into pvp but would be up for it with some fellow trash-tier players :p

This was 100% true for me with TLG. I truly hated the first few hours of that game. I almost just stopped playing a couple times. But man am I so glad

i stuck with it. I finally got comfortable with the controls and the second half of that game is absolutely spectacular.

Fortunately, 4-2 gives plenty of souls.

Unless you're playing with others who are helping you, I wouldn't be human when soloing. I beat the entire game essentially dead but with the ring that adds some health in death mode. I got invaded too many times early on to bother with being human. I solo'ed the whole game half dead, never got invaded though at least. :p

I was doing fine with it and beat most invaders up to that point but the last two sessions have convinced me to stay in soul form yea. Every invader suddenly had some crazy 'I've been PvP-ing since 2009 asshole' build. Someone invaded me and instantly plagued and poisoned me with a mist, then crushed me. That was the limit of my patience.

I made up for it by killing Flamelurker on my second try and then destroying and invader. Nice.

I was a bit overleveled but i absolutely massacred flame lurker, I kept hearing how difficult he was but I got him first try, there were definitely much tougher bosses imho

Flamelurker got me several times. I just wasn't strong enough at the time.

Maneater was harder, I think, mostly due to

Spoiler

the second one popping up.

Like the Soulsborne games I've played so far, once you beat them once, you do have a better idea on NG+ or helping others how to proceed. But the lead-up to beating many of these bosses left me dead plenty of times.

I'm doing 3-2 now, or well was last night, but haven't hit Maneater yet. I'm sure he'll be a huge asshole...

Thief ring helps a lot on the run back. It makes you harder to detect, which helps keep those freakin flying sting rays off your back. Also, there is a shortcut. As soon as you get past the pathway down with the skeletons, you'll enter the dark area with the alien looking enemies. Once you pass through the little tunnel entrance, turn right and you can hop down. It's tricky though and you'll land behind one of the reaper enemies. So be prepared to attack!

Here's a pretty neat walkthrough. Skip to the 1:05 mark for the shortcut.

I usually pop on the Thief ring there so I did have that down. I did NOT know about that shortcut drop but the biggest one that always gets me is that narrow hallway with the reaper and magic shooting spirit at the end. I think he threw a Soul Remains item there to distract it, never even thought of that.

I didn't know you could throw it and then run past them.

I actually don't have trouble in that hallway. Just wait for that guy to walk toward you, take him out, then run to the end, gather your stamina when you get right before the reaper, and then boom, slice him up.

Oh I can take him out but by the time I was on my third run through the entire fucking level the other night, I couldn't deal with a methodical approach anymore and wanted to be able to shortcut or sprint past that piece of shit hallway haha

I beat this game three times. Twice originally and once with this remake quickly, and I keep hoping there will be a drought where I can just sit down and thoroughly re-explore this game. I love souls bosses. God I want the next original game from these people

I’m on 1-2 and the bridge is just kicking my ass. With all the archers and the knight that charges you. The dragon at your back. I made it once past the archers and the 2nd knight. I then forgot to eat some health, got up the stairs and got hit with an arrow and died. I wanted to throw my controller through my tv. What am I doing wrong here?

I absolutely love the atmosphere of this game. The gameplay is really good. I really  love the story and basically non-existent dialogue or frequent cut scenes. The environment really does such a good job of telling the story (kinda reminds me of ICO/SOTC in that regard). The sound is fantastic. It truly feels like a next-gen game.

but...I cannot deal with punishment factor. Having to constantly run back is just ruining it for me. I really don’t know how you guys can stick with it and not get both completely frustrated and bored.  This game is all about repetition. Being someone who has never replayed a game in my  life once I’ve beaten it, I think this is where the game is going to lose me.

Well, it looks like you just forgot to heal.

You can bypass the first part of the bridge by going underneath, for the other parts just bait the dragon out so it'll wipe the enemies in your way and follow as close as you can behind him so you won't have to worry about him making a second pass. The last part will have 2 or 3 archers left and a knight. The knight is separated a little bit, so I usually just kill the archers as quickly as possible and then deal with the knight.

Just wait until you get to the mindflayers area (I don't remember what its called). If they get a hold of you its pretty much auto death, so much time just spent sitting inside a door frame so they get in range and don't have time to cast anything.

The game is really just a rogue like game. Many deaths with incremental progress where you increase stats and gear. Its like Hades or Dead Cells. I stick with it because nothing gives the same feeling of struggling to beat an area and then having a good run and just wiping the floor with everything.

But I’ve made zero progress. In fact, I’ve made backwards progress bc I’m almost out of healing herbs. So I’m guessing now i have to go back to 1-1 and farm for souls to buy herbs. It just feels like an hour or more of my time was wasted. Im gonna give it a go a few more times but I might have to put my tail between my legs and bail on this game.

How much time have you put in?

The biggest pitfalls new Souls players have are time and death.

Time- I am taking to long, this level is taking to long. People are use to games where levels are 15 mins to an hour, new Souls players should expect some levels to take many hours until you get the swing of things.

Death-I keep dying to much. Your gonna die and you gonna die even more. Your gonna have a horde of souls and your gonna die before you can spend them. Your gonna have flawless run to a boss and then you will fall to your death like an idiot at the last moment.

Theres also nothing wrong with dropping the game. I could put a thousand hours into COD but not make a damn bit of headway, every game isnt for everyone.
