Wait...in DeS Remake, right? I know I looked at a message that simply said 'society' and had no fucking clue what it meant but liked it anyway!?

Ya, there are a few of them I encountered, but I specifically remember that one just because I viewed those "hints" as, "So this is what society has come to..." and I'm always amazed at how funny people can be with them.

Man, this is the first time I'm going all out on Dexterity and really investing in bows and magic...and it's fucking awesome. Last time I played I upgraded to a Sticky Bow +2 I think and that thing is incredibly useful. I've somehow managed to have never really given bows the time of day in Souls games.

Never really tried that. Do you still have enough strength for, say, the enemies in World 4 that roll up to you and force you to melee?

Definitely. I've beaten 4-1 already and farmed it several times, I love that stage. I went for the 'Tearing' upgrade path on a bleed-heavy weapon which enhanced my Dexterity rating to a B. Never really went for bleed weapons at all, nor full Dexterity and bows so I really wanted to give it a shot and it's been fun. Currently using the Kilij which is basically a big ass Scimitar.

Yeah, I forget the name, but I went with the bleeding weapon that only has 70 "HP" (or whatever the term is for its quality before breaking), but it cuts deep and was great for Black Phantoms.

Might have to try bows some time. Those skeletons waiting for you at the end of those narrow bridges could use a good bow attack, and those flying enemies are likely way easier with a bow and thief ring.

The flying manta rays actually only have something like 60 HP or less and go down with one arrow for me. They're also worth close to 500 souls I think.

I took them down with one hit via Soul Ray/Fireball, though Soul Ray is better for them.

The thing is, I think arrows go further than ranged magic attacks, so combine that with thief ring and they may not even see you on time. I haven't tried it.

I farmed the shit out of 4-3, though, lol.

Oh yea, and the 'Sticky' upgrade path increases distance on bows. The distance is way greater than the lock-on range required for spells but I mean, obviously that's totally viable and also fun. I also think you can headshot enemies and get some small damage increase. I forgot to count in DeS but you can in Dark Souls so I do it on instinct. Also...it's fun...

Just buy a cheesy Long Bow and see if you like the feel of it. You equip it, precision aim with L2, shoot with R2 and change arrow types with R1. You have to equip the arrow types as well.

Help me out on the sticky party because I'm unfamiliar with that lol.

I've used the bow; don't get me wrong. Especially on the Blue Dragon, at least the first half of that. But I'm usually stationary so I never implemented it in normal battle.

You can also just lock on and basically 'hip shoot' which is super handy while backing up.

Copying this:

Sticky / Spiderstone /  Bows only. Greatly increases Dexterity bonus and lowers Strength bonus. Increases range of bow by 5 at +1

Basically it's another Dexterity-focused upgrade path but for bows.

Man, what the hell have they done to some of these boss themes. I'm enjoying the game so much and I think they did an amazing job recreating the actual game for modern audiences but good god, these generic 'epic Hollywood and choirs' renditions of the boss themes are so damn bland compared to the weird and highly memorable OST of the original.

I did Fool's Idol last night and I can't wrap my head around taking a boss so reliant on the set piece's sound design and OST and disregarding all of it wholesale when otherwise they adhered to the original with such incredible detail. Also the sound design for Prison of Hope was utterly amazing and while the area is ultra-atmospheric in its own right in the remake, I'm not sure why they chose to change it to a much more typical spooky vibe.

Not shitting on the game at all, I can't stop playing it, but I loved the attention to the sound design in the original so I notice this consistently.

Never played the original, but this is the opposite reaction I had to the music.

The dramatic music in the Dragon God fight, for example, was badass. The Storm King was a truly memorable set piece, partly because of the music. It's what I liked about Bloodborne, too. That Defiled Watchdog music was badass!

That's the thing about the original. I'm nowhere near opposed to 'badass', don't get me wrong, and I don't think the music is bad by any stretch of the imagination. It just invokes a very different atmosphere that feels much more homogenized with Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne while DeS had a very specific feel.

I think it's hard to argue why I feel that way if you haven't played the original but there was something expectation-subverting and more lore-focused about it than just 'this is a big battle'. Like how the Moonlight Butterfly boss in Dark Souls suddenly has a quiet and very delicate theme totally contrary to what you expect from a boss fight. I think DeS and the first Dark Souls were so unique in terms of soundtrack and sound design because they often subverted what a typical game would do.

Edit: On another note, I'd actually pay money for an original OST option like RE2 Remake did, that'd be awesome.

imo, every remake should come with a copy of the original. RE2/3 remake with the original game, SOTC remake with SOTC, Demon's Souls with the remake, etc.

Absolutely 100% agreed. I don't know the dev costs/time involved but...I want that.

On an unrelated note, I also wish Souls games, and especially this remake, would implement Display options for all the online-related clutter. I think messages and bloodstains should be way more subtle or give me the options to turn each off individually. I think I've clicked on bloodstains like three times total ever in these games and they're everywhere and huge in this game. Same goes for messages being enormous and cluttering up an area like Prison Of Hope.

You know, bloodstains actually helped me figure out quicker ways to kill myself in the Nexus.

What like besides jumping from a high ledge?

I was always going up to the second platform up since I would always fall on the bottom staircase and not die, but I saw one guy running up and before he got to the little tunnel, he rolled off and fell further than normal. That saved me many trips!

On your second playthrough, try to find a new item that'll help you traverse that place.

Actually I was doing really well and didn't die once but man it was tough. I completely wore down two swords, almost ran out of healing items and was stressed as fuck by the time I reached that knock-down bridge shortcut haha. And holy shit, that place is dark and I constantly miss the addition of torches from later on in the series.

I did end up getting a boatload of Suckerstones and going to town upgrading my Tearing Kilji, feels great. Also fucked up Dirty Colossus pretty bad with some fire magic.

Are you still playing btw? I've managed to get to level 46 I think right now.

Playing Miles Morales at the moment but I'm not "done" with Demon's Souls. I have a NG+ to finish, but I really had the itch to play another game from launch. Keep me updated on your level and then we can co-op some fuckers like Flamelurker and fuck diddler.

I’m still playing but I haven’t gotten to it in the past week or so...I’m at the part in the jail where you kill that big blob thing and haven’t advanced past that.

Whenever you pop back in, let me know what level you are and if you want some help with bosses or PvP. I'm...45 or 46 by now I think?

Also, watch your step when you walk past the big blob area.

I already beat the game once on PS3, and now again on PS5 a month or so back. I did everything in both true white and true black world tendencies for each level on this second playthrough. Amazing game, but yeah, I'm done with it fully now. I'm not big on NG+ runs, etc.

I already beat Astro's Playroom too, which was fun. Once I'm done 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, I'm deciding between Spider-Man; Shadow of the Colossus remake, or The Last Guardian for my PS5.

Do you think @Commissar SFLUFAN would enjoy 13 Sentinels?

You bastard.

On a sidenote, I just downloaded and played The Last Guardian for about 30 minutes last night and good god are the controls and camera hideous after playing Demon's Souls for like two hours.

It'd be cool to do 4 players against some of the bosses. I do wish the bosses were Bloodborne caliber, but since I have the PS+ Collection and also the GOTY edition on disc, I'm down for playing again simultaneously with some D1Pshits down the line.

Sorry. Thread is about 13 Sentinels now.
