Emblazon
https://www.slashfilm.com/the-meg-early-buzz/ I'm really surprised people are really enjoying the early screenings! I just have to remember to turn my brain off at the theater and tell myself it's not the book. We'll be seeing it in IMAX 3D opening weekend. I'm thinking somewhere in the 40% range on RT, and hoping for a Jurassic World type reception.
Spawn_of_Apathy
The trailer made it look like it was a bit on the campy side. Closer to a Sharknado than even to a Deep Blue Sea.
EternallDarkness
looking forward to some stupid fun
Wild
I put little trust in social media early buzz. They've got this down to a science.
Mercury33
I’m personally excited for it. I love shark movies
Emblazon
Projected to hit 20-22 million over the weekend. Yikes. I'm going to see it like 6 times, so I'll be doing my part!
TwinIon
It's surprisingly difficult to pull off just the right amount of "this is ridiculous and dumb, but fun the whole way." I'll be happy if the Meg can find the right balance.

ALIEN-gunner
This is PG-13 and many of the fully filmed gorey parts were cut to make it fit the rating just so kids could see it.

EternallDarkness
ditched moviepass earlier this week and signed up tonight for AMC a-list and this is the first movie I'll see with it, tomorrow morning on IMAX
Emblazon
We've got IMAX tickets for 7:40pm Saturday night. I just want to go see it tomorrow night too.
Emblazon
I've been listening to the score for the past day, and while there's no major theme that runs throughout, it's a seriously solid film score with some really standout tracks. Harry Gregson-Williams did a fine job on this movie.
Emblazon
Based off the Thursday night return, opening weekend figures are now tracking between $50-$60 million. Fuck yes.
EternallDarkness
Fun movie, don't fooled by the campiness of the trailer, it's definitely more 'thriller' in the Deep Blue Sea style. Is it great? No, but it was pretty dang fun and I would definitely watch it again...and since I have the amc movie card there is a chance I'll do just that. TheLeon
The last 20 minutes or so really delivered what I want from a movie like this. Everything leading up to that didn’t do much for me.
johnny
I’d bet my entire savings emblazon will love this. Whenever he gets hyped for something it always delivers for him :P

Whenever he gets hyped for something it always delivers for him :P That's not true at all. The more I watch Ready Player One, the less I like it, and it absolutely pales in comparison to the book. And I've been waiting for this movie for over TWENTY YEARS. Mind you, I have no misconceptions that this will be the book, I just want to enjoy the movie. I only care that two of the plot points happen from the book. If they happen, I'm golden. This series has 6 full novels, a prequel novella, and a crossover from another one of his series. SimpleG
Watched this today at the ADH. The comedy bits were hit or miss , mostly miss for me. The shark CGI wasnt bad and the under water ship CGI was better then expected. The plot was handled well, less is more when it comes to the more "sciency" aspect. The gore for a PG13 was heavy, I assumed the film was an R just for that alone. 3/5 stars
EternallDarkness
Deadline reports 44.5 million for the weekend 16.5 Friday 16.1 million Saturday which is either a 1% decrease or a 30% increase if you don't count the Thursday preview. Emblazon
Definitely didn't love the movie. I despise needless changes from the source material, especially when those changes would cost more money. It was fun, I enjoyed it, but it was not very good. Even though I've owned the book forever, I never got around to reading it, will likely start it soon to see how they compare. But the weather is crappy here so I ended up seeing it again today, breaking in the AMC A-list pass.

So you have to read the first 4 Meg books, The Loch, then read Vostok.
TwinIon
My review after seeing it this weekend: Of all the dumb giant shark movies, The Meg is certainly one of them.
