I’m at the part where (happens at least a couple hours after dodger’s spoiler)

I got through that big ass apartment building with Lev. I love having the flamethrower and incendiary shells for my shotty. That ammo destroys shamblers.

The storylines, characters and levels cut from ‘The Last of Us Part II’ (The Washington Post)

Quote

Video games, especially blockbusters in the Triple-A space, go through numerous revisions and changes before the final product is shipped. For Naughty Dog’s “The Last of Us Part II,” to make its storytelling as effective as possible, scenes were constantly moved around, re-contextualized or removed. These include cutscenes, playable sections and characters — some of which were carefully considered and ultimately deleted.

Naturally, there are spoilers in the article.

Spoilers for after the 50% mark

Spoiler

Ok. Abby’s stealth kill is slow, right? And it cannot be upgraded like Ellie’s to make it faster... but, two times, and I cannot figure out how to replicate it, instead of doing that slow choke she did a super fast kill with a full-on 80’s action movie style head snap. Is this random or is there a way to “force” it?

Same thing happened to me and I could not replicate it.

Does the game ever tell you this? I guess I should have cleared the yellow dots in the tutorial section.

Nope. I did it by accident one time and went “the F just happened?” and immediately figured out the control input for it.

I don't know about the sequel but the original definitely gives you this as a tutorial hint. I really don't do it much in a, basically, TPS but it does come in handy once in a while in tight spaces.

I could have sworn both games did. Like TLOU did early on, but I ALWAYS forget to do it whenever I replay it.

It's def not mentioned during gameplay tutorials in TLoU2. It's even on all the "things the game doesn't tell you!" lists.

There’s one scene in particular it would have been SUPER helpful in, maybe two.

I think the game could have made the stealth more interesting if there were more times when you could end up surrounded; in most arenas it’s pretty easy to put everyone in the 180 degrees in front of you.

In general, the melee and hand-to-hand combat is very context sensitive. So if you position yourself and the enemy near walls and appliances as opposed to open spaces, the character will go into a strike-style melee attack mode animation as you hit away and just smash the enemies' heads into the walls and such, killing them much faster. That's what I've noticed anyway.

I never found the move particularly helpful in the first one because it opens you up a lot to turn your back on enemies. Running backwards isn't terribly slow if I recall that correctly right now so it's usually better to be ready to shoot/melee than turn your back and run away fully in my experience. I tried it several times and got lit up. The AI seemed to be aware of whether I was facing them or running away...I think? At least it seemed that way. Again, talking about the first one.

Yea but thats not what hes talking about. It was grab from behind and just a quick snap.

I’m referencing a stealth kill animation after a grab, not melee combat. :p

Mild upgrade spoilers for the bit that @Spork3245 was talking about.

Spoiler

You can find a way to craft shivs a la the first game, which helps take down enemies quicker.

Abbeys play through , I seem to recall it happening in the store?

No

Spoiler

Happened twice on Day 3. I went “how the F did I do that?” and then it happened again a few minutes later and I couldn’t replicate it willingly.

No

Spoiler

Wasn’t a shiv kill, it was a barehanded neck snap after a stealth grab. Pressing square.

Yes I know I'm implying that may be contextual as well.

Spoiler

I know what you mean by the quick head snap. I've done it randomly a few times too, hence my explanation about context sensitivity. The only quicker stealth kill animation I'm aware of is using a shiv for the stealth kill over the chokehold as @Kal-El814 explained but I know you are talking about the head/neck snap, which is different.

Oh yeah, sorry I wasn’t clear.

Spoiler

Abby can’t upgrade her choke to be quicker the way Ellie can knife enemies more quickly via supplements. She can craft shivs to make takedowns easier. Completely separate from that, yes, sometimes being close to a wall / surface seems to allow melee to “go quicker.”

Lousy quoting by me. :p

I wasn’t standing by anything or did anything different, the only thing I could think of is maybe I double tapped square. It doesn’t seem something that would be environmentally affected. It was badass and I want to do it ALL the time, though :p
