Commissar SFLUFAN
PC Gamer article Quote Mortal Shell is yet another game made in the long shadow of Dark Souls. It's an action-RPG with deep progression systems set in a dark fantasy world with a "deliberate" and unforgiving combat system. (If it sounds a little too familiar, stick with me.) Mr.Vic20
Already wish listed on Steam! It looks fantastic!
Xbob42
Look fairly promising, a little concerned about the extravagant animations getting in the way of actually playing the game, but I'll assume that was liberties taken to make the video cooler. Way to false advertise to console folks though with that silky smooth FPS that you can't deliver to 'em!
Bacon
Need to see actual character movement and UI, but I can't wait to use that rocky poise spell. Poise is why DS1 is the best.

crispy4000
Other than the occasional performance dips and 30fps norm, this gen could probably go on impressing me for years if we weren’t moving on.
skillzdadirecta
Looks good... reminds me I still have to beat Dark Souls two and three... and Bloodborne... and Sekiro... and The Surge and all of the other souls like games I buy and take forever to finish To date I HAVE finished Demon's Souls, Dark Souls Remastered, Lords of The Fallen and Jedi Fallen Order, so I CAN beat this games when I put my mind to it. I wonder if the rumors of a remastered Demon's Souls for PS5 are true.

Dodger
My quarantine time has been spent playing Dark Souls 3 because I never really did either DLC. I can cake walk the regular game but my scrublord noob ass can't beat Friede or Midir. Haven't gotten to Gael yet.

Well, I am just assuming there will be something similar to the PS4 Pro for the PS5 and I'd rather wait until that comes out to get a PS5. One of the very few things that could make me get a PS5 before a possible Pro version is a remake of DeS.

I could barely scratch Midir, so after a bunch of tries I summoned a couple of people to help me. Even with 3 people, we were getting our asses handed to us. On my 3rd or so try with 3 people, I came across this one player who carried us. I spent the whole time dodging, the third person died half way through and this miracle of a person completely wrecked Midir with beautifully timed dodges and attacks. I was totally baffled. It was beautiful.

It was beautiful. My best run I just focused on his head and got him down to about half health. The rest haven't gone as well. I try to beat every boss solo to prove to myself I can do it. Except the Demon Prince fight, that fight is just stupid bullshit so I don't even feel bad summoning for that one. Part of me wants to go through the game like 4 more times with different builds but part of me is also wanting to move onto something else finally. Raggit
Demon Prince? edit: Ah, yes that one. Surprisingly, I found it to be on the easier side, compared to some of the others.

The first boss of The Ringed City where you fight those two assholes who then become one asshole in the second phase. One of the assholes sprays some toxic mist at you in the first phase. I got close to doing it solo and I could probably plan for the toxic bs by switching things around, but I didn't feel like it so I just brought in an NPC summon to beat it. Bacon
When I saw the trailer I was reminded of another game that dropped off the face of the earth. I couldn't remember what it was called, but my brother remembered. Anyone remember: Well, they are the same game. Or rather Dungeonhaven became Mortal Shell. https://www.dungeonhaven.com/
Bloodporne
What I'd really like to see more of is a focus on Dark Souls world design, as in the first game specifically. That'd be really cool seeing how even From dropped that.

My brothers and I just played DSII last year and we're finishing up DSIII now and we're just not nearly as impressed as we were with Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro. Probably because Hidetaka Miyazaki wasn't as hands-on with DSII and DSIII. We're all looking forward to Elden Ring though.

Commissar SFLUFAN
The current thinking among YouTube critiques is that the interconnected world design of Demon's Souls/Dark Souls was largely "accidental".

I mean, it seems like the only explanation. It's like they kinda try in other games but mostly fail at it. It also doesn't help that the games became less vertical as the series progressed, and consisted of larger flatter levels. Even Dark Souls looses a bunch of its interconnectivity after reaching anor londo.
