How are you surviving the Plague 2020?

I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home, hopefully for as long as all this shit lasts. My gf wasn't so lucky and has been furloughed so we are down one income. So far the response from AZ unemployment has been fast, just waiting on her first payment. Though she's going to get literally half of about what she would have gotten in CA. Hopefully once she gets that we should be fine money wise because we live kind of far from our jobs so the lack of driving is saving us gas money.

Other than that I've mostly squandering my indoors time by playing a shit load of Dark Souls 3, which I'm getting bored of, probably because I keep starting new builds all the time. Need to find another game to get into but nothing seems compelling at the moment. Started A Marvel Movie marathon where I watch one movie a night. Watched all of Tiger King Saturday. So I definitely need to find things to watch.

I've been lazy about working out, trying to change that this week. My home gym is only a shitty walmart flat bench and a set of powerblocks adjustable dumbbells. Not great but for someone extremely out of shape it should be enough to get through quarantine time. Probably can't afford a squat rack and barbell set for awhile. The week I was sent home was the week I was planning on finding a gym out here to try and get back into shape. I've also bought and had way too much junk food, where I find myself boredom eating.

Food wise in AZ hasn't been bad. Shit initially was crazy but I usually buy in bulk at Costco and have a good amount of food on hand usually. Went to Costco last week and it was pretty well organized, honestly best Costco experience I've ever had. I find water here and there, so I just get what I can when I can. Haven't seen a single role of TP since this mess started, but I just hop in the shower and wash my ass after a shit since I'm home all day anyway. Looks Arizona is going to cross 1000 cases today, but I have at least a month supply of food and water so it hasn't been that bad for me yet. I think I just lucked out with Costco, because it is pretty hit and miss what I can find at my local grocery stores/Walmart.

Water in AZ is horrendous.

Fuck yeah it is, especially where I live. Apparently the company that manages the water that services my area is notoriously shitty. Also the water here is really hard, I haven't gotten a softner yet but apparently many people in my area do. I'm sure if the shit really hit the fan and it's all I had I'd be fine, but I'm not drinking tap water around here unless I have to.

I've started the reading for my research assignment, so that kills at least 2 hours every day (if I'm in the flow, maybe more) and I've started to weed my garden so I can work out how to make it look nice.

Since i'm not in school for at least the next two weeks, I'll treat the days I have off as small working days, so reading in the morning, then my wife also has the time off, so we'll go for a walk, come back, do some jobs (gardening, painting, fixing, sorting) and then tail off around 3pm.

UPDATE: So I've checked and I've have about 21 references to help support my opening and lit review, with a few more to be added in after I read some text books. I'd say I've read about 50 books/journals since my first post and thoroughly hate the concept of formative assessment and effective questioning.

UPDATE 2: Bump that number up to about 45 now. Hopefully I can start to work through the data I've collected, make some assessments on it and start to plan the write up and presentation for my work.

I also played poker with some friends online last night and it was really fun.

I need to establish a routine, I realized last night how lazy and fuck-it I've become. Usually I kickbox three times per week with one of those nights being sparring, which is basically hyper-cardio, and strength & conditioning.

I've done absolutely zero for the past few weeks, not even a single pushup. Instead, I've been smoking weed and having a glass of whisky every night and watching terrible TV shows because I'm bored out of my skull. Probably not a great approach in the long term.

Also, I've been taking aimless drives around town looking like a total Mad Max wacko in my face mask, gloves and old Chevy.

Reebok has 50% off and Adidas 30%. Get some running shoes do a daily run.

Funny enough, I just bought a bunch of Adidas shit a few months ago when the store near me had 40% off. New Sambas, a new hoodie and so on. When you're European, you basically smell an Adidas sale on the wind.

I've entertained the idea of getting this thing for a while so that I only have to go to the laundry room for towels and sheets and the experience I had in the laundry room last weekend seems like a good excuse to finally pull the trigger. I hang my shirts up to dry instead of putting them in the dryer anyhow and I guess I'll start doing that for underwear too (the commercial dryers in the basement get too hot even on the low setting so probably for the best regardless).

I've seen those but I'm concerned about storage space, as well as figuring a smaller thing should be less awkward to get water into.

Today is the last day of my Easter holiday, but I've not had any contact from my school or my university, so I guess I'm not working this week (unless I get a very last minute email). We've started to decorate the room for our upcoming baby, so that's involved a bit of painting, a new set of curtains and I've learned how to wallpaper. Suffice to say, it looks alright.

If it turns out UK schools aren't going to open properly for a while, I think I'll end up working academically in the morning and then working on my house in the afternoons, sorting out a floor, sorting out my stairs, painting a few bits, clearing out some bits etc

I'm going to assume that school's aren't going to open again in the UK until September, so I've applied to about 5 different places near me to sort out a job until then, as well as contacting several schools that are advertising for September to discuss the positions further.

Honestly, if I can get a job right now, I would feel so much better about everything as I can throw it into my savings, work OT in a safe environment and bring home some bacon. I've really enjoyed completing a post-grad, but going from earning money to...not and knowing that I only have a finite loan that will run out is pretty unnerving.
