Honestly I feel this is a really weak launch lineup. What have we got? Spider-Man Miles Morales, which yeah looks good, but it isn't even a full game, and Demon's Souls which looks superb, but is a remake. There's some good third party cross gen games, but I'm really failing to see the purpose of buying this, or the SeX, at launch. 

 

Yeah I know, I'm a party pooper.

Which consoles had good launch lineups in your opinion? Legit question not asking sarcastically

That's a good question actually. I'd have to go back and look. I wouldn't say any had stellar launches by any means, and I've always thought buying any console at launch is pointless (I bought a Wii U at launch, and that was certainly a mistake lol). I'm sure if I look I'll see launches that are at least solid.

The Wii U is the regret that constantly reminds you it was a regret as most of it's good titles find their way to the Switch.

Gamecube had Luigi's Mansion, Rogue Squadron II, Super Monkey Ball, Wave Race: Blue Storm, THPS3, and SSB Melee less than a week later.  Also one of the good ones.


I don't think PS5 is far off from any of these consoles mentioned.  Just no Mario 64-level killer app.  Otherwise, there's good exclusives and good multiplats both premiering with the system on launch day.  Even a good pack in, which is atypical.

I'm not a Souls fan so for me Spiderman Miles & Astrobot are great for me. I will probably also pick up sackboy when it goes on sale digitally in the future (looks like a really fun game). 

 

While not a launch game, let's not forget that Racket & Clank will be here in a few months.

As for what I plan to do with my PS5 this year, I have a collection of Digital Yakuza games to get through (0, then 4 & 5, I had started 4 on the PS3 but never finished it. I still haven't played 5 yet). I really need to hurry my ass up with finishing Judgement (i'm about 1/2 way through).

Dreamcast was the best overall lineup but I don’t think anything they launched with is in the same class as N64, Xbox and Switch. And to be fair those 3 launched with 1 mega game and not much else. 
 

Honestly I can’t think of another console with this much to choose from at launch than the PS5. You can’t discount the 3rd party games that are also launching on PS4 or else you’d have to discount both Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild.

No system seller for me either but then again it took me until Bloodborne came out to buy a PS4. I am however considering the PS5 now just for the backwards compatibility, it looks surprisingly great and I hadn't kept up with that aspect. 

 

I was really psyched about the Demon's Souls remake but the idea of it was a lot more enticing than the actual reality of 'ah yeah wait, I've played this for like 200 hours already and know every nook and cranny and there's nothing new here'. Nothing changed obviously but somehow I lost interest in it. 

 

If I can even find it, I might pick one up in the coming months though just for my PS4 games.

Yes it does, though I have to imagine that drains the battery pretty quick. Also, wire.

 

I can also continue to use my bluetooth headphones with my TV, but it's unclear if that will get me the 3D audio. It's obviously not a dealbreaker, it's just a stupid, artificial limitation I was hoping they'd remove.

Was curious because I actually like that DS4 feature a lot and use it frequently.

Sony wanted to charge more than $70 according to Bloomberg. God damn. I’ll wait for the price hike defenders to bust out their calculations to tell us how even at $80+, we should be happy and grateful.

I haven’t gamed much with the election and all, but I cannot wait to fire up a new console. Astrobot, while short, looks awesome. And im all in for sackboy and MIles Morales. Bugsnax is free, which reviews are saying is a ton of fun. 
 

I get why anyone would wait on new consoles, but besides Switch, this is the best launch I can remember.

 

Plus, im excited to try the new controller.

This ‘not a full game” stuff is so absurd to me. It is the whole game, that makes it a full game. Its not as long as the original, but im positive it will be just as fun to play. Its still a whole experience. Some of the best games ive played were sub-10 hours.
