What are you playing today?

Curious, what are your thoughts on the game itself?

Overall I like it but it's sometimes annoyingly unbalanced. There are a lot of recruitable characters but not much incentive to use most of them and you tend to need to grind to get them to a level where they're useful. Some of those characters can be a pain to get rid of since it won't let you kick them out of your party to make room for somebody else. I kicked one character out planning to get him back later only to discover that because I hadn't beaten a certain boss before closing a gate that I couldn't go back to where he was to recruit him anymore. A lot of stuff is obscure even with the help of the internet. For example for the skills I'm trying to learn, for the attack ones I have to use SP cost to match remaster skill names against fan translation names to figure out which skills to use to unlock more and for the defensive ones I haven't been able to find a list (doesn't help that while some of the skill have the same name as the skill they guard against others don't).  So despite its flaws I think it's a really good 16 bit era JRPG.

I plan to play at least one more time through after I finish but I don't know if I'll be willing to finish it 8 times to play through each main character's story. Romancing Saga 2 was simpler but requires a ton of patience to play (on an initial playthrough, on a new game plus with good gear and skills it's much more enjoyable) but Romancing Saga 3 is more interesting and being able to restore LP at inns makes it much more enjoyable.

Finished the 10000 gamer score to rewards points thing. That was exhausting, I don't know how people play games they don't like just for achievements. But now I'm in between games and not sure what I want to play. I downloaded AC Odyssey since I figure Valhalla will be a primary next gen launch game for me, but I doubt I can finish in time if it's 100+ hours.

Looking to fill a FPS itch too but not sure what. I keep hearing good things about Dying Light but I'd have to buy it. Which isn't a problem but Games Pass makes me cheap.

I’ve been playing my DS in and off for the last few days. I have quite a few games I’ve not touched but might be suffering with too many games to realistically ever play. For the time being, I’m going to stick with Spirit Tracks, Picross 3D and then later on get back to Mario and Luigi and Ace Attorney.

I'm about to beat Ion Fury and while it started a bit slow, it's actually kind of unique in that it goes for the Duke 3D style level design as well and does a great job at it. It gets really good and I love those sprawling key-card-based levels you just don't see anymore in FPS.

Not sure if you're into that style but if so, it's the 'retro' FPS to get.

@Bloodporne Your prayers have been answered!

The death of the Tojo Clan’s Third Chairman has plunged the organization into chaos. The violence spreads to the streets, and only Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima can put an end to the bloodshed!

Weeeelllll...that's an actual Streets of Rage 2 re-skin. Not sure if it's marketed as such in there somewhere but I've seen those levels before.

Finished my second playthrough of Romancing Saga 3. 6 more main characters to go. Second time took much less time and I should be set for the remaining times. Unfortunately max HP doesn't carry over in a new game plus so I can't just breeze through the game but with the stuff that does carry over I should still do well.

Just killed a few snuffly Regenerators in RE4. 15 years later and it’s still a deeply unpleasant noise.

Update: Chapter 5-2 is a bit of a pain. I’ve died twice after not being emotionally ready for a load of Iron Maidens, then waves of enemies and then more Regenerators. Not helped by my awful ability to play the game and no ammo.

Update #2: On chapter 5-4. Just got through a bit of a slog against all the enemies, but hoping I’m on the back straight. It’s still a great game but it would be nice to focus my energies (whilst I have them) in something else.

Beat RE4, finally purging my soul of a an unfinished game since 2005. I ended up having a dig around for some games to trade in and after the shop sadly not having FF7 remake or RE3, I bought Jedi Fallen Order and The Fractured But Whole. Played the first 30 minutes of Fallen Order and I’m very happy with it.

Man I wish I could experience that game again for the first time. For me, it's up there with KOTOR as one of the best Star Wars games ever made.

Fantastic game, it only gets better. There's one very dull section in Chapter 3, but once you get past that the game just continues to escalate.

Good to know! I was not a fan of most of the MGS games, but something about this game have me digging on Kojima play.
